PETROGRAPHIC ANALYSIS

SAMPLE NO. 7

THIN SECTION ANALYSIS:

Diffuse, alternating layers of relatively light and dark mineral assemblages are observed in the
thin section. The light and dark bands are characterized by their relatively elevated amounts of quartz +
plagioclase and limonite + chlorite+ tremolite-actinolite needles respectively.

Within the light colored bands, quartz and feldspar (albite) are angular and have a fragmented-
like texture. Quartz predominantly exists as fine-grained groundmass constituent and has a range of
crystal habits including mosaic, anhedral and resorbed grains. Most plagioclase grains are mostly albite
that have anhedral grain boundaries . Relict plagioclase phenocryts are sill recognizable and are rotated
into the planar foliation of the sample.

The dark colored bands are composed of undulating streaks of chlorite admixed with limonite and
associated with tremolite-actinolite needles.

Both the mineral assemblages in the light and dark colored bands are preferentially aligned with
the rock’s foliation. The sample has undergone significant oxidation giving it a reddish coloration.
