Introduction to Cellular Networks – CS314 Due Date: 9th May, 2019

Objectives:

Objective of this assignment is to increase the learning capabilities of the students about basics
of cell planning and frequency reuse in cellular networks, and call set-up process between
cellular network and PSTN.

Question 1

Suppose that a FDD cellular network has a bandwidth of 50 MHz. The network uses 20 KHz of
bandwidth for each channel to provide full duplex communication. Keeping into view these
characteristics of the cellular network, provide the answers of following questions:

a) What will be the bandwidth required for each full duplex communication?
b) What will be the total number of channels which can be supported at most for the assigned
bandwidth?
c) What will be the number of channels required per cell in a cluster having the value of i=2
and j=2?

Question 2

Suppose that Raza is a mobile network user and wants to call his friend Hassan on his landline
number in a different city. Explain the complete process of call setup between Raza and Hassan.
