Essential Questions What are the different characteristics of the 5 kingdoms of life?
Students will review a quizlet on vocabulary terms link (here). They will be
allowed review using any function of the quizlet, but they must review alone.
Students will then be grouped by their table partners and will be given a set of
flashcards (one set per group). The topics will be a different color then the
Instructional characteristics. They will race to see what group can match all of the
Activities & characteristics to the correct topics. The first two round will be practice and the
Strategies final round will be a race. If there is still class time left the class will review the
quizlet either individually or with their table partner until class is over. Students
will complete a google survey as a learning check before the next class session.

1. What steps did you go through to create this lesson? With whom did you talk, discuss, or edit your lesson?
I talked with my instructor about if the students would need more time to study before they play the matching
game.
2. How did the SOLs and Objectives help focus your instruction?
I made sure I answered the whole objective.
When a table group was finished with their cards and needed to be checked I had the table next to them check
it if they had it correct because I couldn’t check everyone without taking a long time.

5. How well did you anticipate the materials needed?
Very well
6. How effective was the assessment you chose to use? (If no assessment was used, what will the future
assessment be and how will you gauge its effectiveness?)
Very effective because most of the students got a 100 and helped me make sure they retained the information.
7. To what degree do you feel that this lesson was a success? What evidence do you have for the success of
the lesson? (Hint: Student learning is the key to a lesson’s success!)
It was a great success because because the assessment helped me check that most of the students retained
alot of the information.
8. How did the time spent preparing for your lesson contribute to its success?
I made sure all of the cards were in order and every bag had the right amount, although making 400 flashcards
by hand out of letter sized paper was not ideal.
9. If you could do this lesson again with the same students, would you do anything differently? If so, what?
I would try to have more characteristics so the matching game would take longer because I was running around
trying to check everyone. I would also have them do something while they were waiting for the next round.
