Name : __________________________

So far we have looked at 3 different Ethical Systems, Virtue Ethics,

Deontology Ethics, and Utilitarian Ethics. In this paper you will do the
following

a) Provide an introduction which outlines all the content that you will be discussing
in this paper.

b) What is the Utilitarian Ethic System?

i) Who are the founders of this Ethical System?
ii) How is the system of Ethics set up? What are the mechanics behind the
system that determine if an action is virtuous. Be sure to use
terminology from the Bentham Hand-Out!

c) What is a situation in your life where Utilitarian Ethics has been utilized, either
by you, or someone else. Do you agree with the application of this ethical system
in this instance?

d) Come up with a critique of Utilitarian Ethics. Feel free to get help from the
internet, but be prepared to provide a citation (APA) if you utilize these
resources.

e) A conclusion which outlines why you believe that Utilitarianism is a positive or
negative ethical system to follow. Be sure to incorporate the example you gave,
and the critique that offered.

Your paper should be long enough to address these questions/topics. You

should be utilizing a 5 paragraph structure, and should be aiming for (at a
minimum) 350 to 400 words. You will have the next two classes to gather
your ideas and create a rough copy of the paper.

Please use the Rubric on the back of this assignment sheet to help
understand how you will be assessed.
