A.

Buildings –the most prominent part of urban planning, it gives mass into a place, It
what makes a city or town. Because of its massive structure it formed the street
walls. It gives meaning into a city, a place without buildings is just a mere place and
you can’t say it has a proper urban planning when you can’t see any structure rising
from ground.

B. Public space – refers as the living of the city, it is somewhat a leisure area where
people hangout in an open air for free, it is important in urban design because it
creates a good view into a city where you can beautify it with trees, play grounds,
bike trails, and other amenities. It also gives a city sense of freedom because it frees
you from all the stress brought from offices and other problems, public spaces can
you enough time to forget those problems for a while. It also gives us chance to
socialize and meet other kind of people from different walk of life.

C. Streets – It is where most of the street life happens to most cities and it generates
social interaction. It is a connection in every corner of the place. Good urban
planning must consider the streets to create a peaceful and smooth flow of the
vehicles, which means if the city has no problem about traffic then it has a good
urban planning.

D. Transport – serves as the connection between places and spaces especially in the
automobile age where destinations are located far apart. It bridges the gap
between places and spaces from time to time. Transportation is the main reason
why there is a proper urban planning for streets because this are the main
components that makes streets alive.

E. Landscape – also called as ‘lungs of the city’. It serves as a breathing ground of


battle the complexities of urban life that caters stress. If refers to all the trees and
plants located in the place. It is called as lungs of the city because as we all know
plants produces oxygen that we need to breathe. Having many trees around a
place regulates the heat produced by the cars and sun itself, so if there is a proper
landscape a place won’t be so hot during the day. It’s not just about cooling a place
but it also beautifies a city by its natural color that’s cool in the eyes, it also helps
lessen stress.

2. What are the traditional thoughts in urban design? Elaborate each of the traditions.
A. Visual- Artistic tradition – this thought is more on the what the naked eyes can perceive,
it is the beautification, visual qualities and aesthetical experience of urban spaces rather
than its cultural, social, and political aspects. It focused on the designing that can make the
place more attractive and pleasing to the eyes rather than considering how will it gives
impact into other aspects.
B. Social usage tradition – it is the relationship between activities and spaces. It focused on
the use of the place for human activities.
