RESPONSE TO THE LETTER OF MS PEPITO:

Before answering her queries regarding issues on social media, I would like to trace back some incidents
that could have led to these events today.

It was during the Davao City Athletic Association meet (DCAA) last October 2019, Holy Child College of
Davao Red Eagles Juniors Basketball Boys team up against the Rizal Memorial College Bulldogs Juniors
Basketball Boys team crucial game to the finals event that was held at the Brgy Bankerohan
Multipurpose Gymnasium. I was there to cover the event for various newspaper agencies in the city. The
game was intense and close and most of the spectators cheer for their favourite team. Most of my
friends in the sports business is already present especially my co-alumni from Holy Child. But a group of
spectators stood out the most, because they were yelling, making faces, and jeering the students and
spectators of the RMC Team. I took a picture of them and showed them to some people in Holy Child
that I knew. Holy Child won that event.

Later that night, the RMC Sports Manager, Mr. Jun Maambong, knowing that I graduated in Holy Child,
asked me if I this was really how Holy Child spectates on games. I simply said, probably things had
changed over the years, because the Holy Child that I knew of was supportive but not to this extent. As a
concern alumnus, I posted my sentiment through a Facebook Post “I wish the parents of Holy Child
change their ways, #CheerDontJeer”. The post went viral and coaches from different schools, including
former Holy Child athletes, commented and sent me personal messages about their own experiences
with the Holy Child parents. Some of the parents also commented and lambasted my post thinking that
it was propaganda against them. I explained myself to them and reasoned out, but they were already
attacking me personally instead of sticking to the main issue. I deleted the post after a day.

It was a month after the incident, that I was invited to speak in front of the Holy Child community in
Mintal to promote the sports clubbing program of the school. From that event everything has totally
changed and the stakes became higher.

Moving forward to first issue when I was already working here in school was the poster of the Holy Child
Tri-Meet event where Vince Cuajao and Kyle Jamora were amongst the people I chose to be on it. I
could still remember asking permission from Ms Chrys Velasco to have these players excused for classes
so that could finish the posters and have them printed already. When I posted the first poster and influx
of comments came about how excited they were for the upcoming event. One comment from a parent
stood out among the rest on her own post on her own wall that really caught my attention. They were
protesting why “Class A” players were placed on the poster. They are actually referring to Vince and Kyle
who are part of the varsity teams of the school.

I did not mind the post that much at first. So when I was told to make posters for Summer Camps, I
posted on my twitter account that I’ll create different designs per campuses instead so that the parents
won’t react negatively about my designs. They made another issue about my pun. But I did not mind it
again.
It was a week before the Eagles Cup when I posted the video ad on Facebook of Vince Cuajao, Kyle
Jamora, Marjorie Canete and Dominic Tagayon for Trimeet. Mrs. Panto commented negatively on my
post.

MRS PANTO: Nganong class A man gipang festure [feature] nga di mana kaapil sa trimmet (LOL
emoticon, crying emoticon)

ME: I appreciate the thought but is there a need to classify students to elitism? I believe that there is no
class As and Bs amongst them, they’re all equal and the same students. (smile emoticon) Good Morning
(smile emoticon)

MRS PANTO: Koii Canarias there is as per say (approved emoticon) ask the coaches meron class A meron
pweding maglaro ng trimeet and u feature faces are Class A’s… u have to be neutral kasi napaghahalata
na may favouritism ka, just real talk good morning

ME: we don’t define them as Class As po. We have Team As but not Class As

We always talk to them everyday
as parents/tambay at Miras Store.

MRS PANTO: Players u played like DCAA to DAVRAA, Pasarelle are called Class A’s accord to the coaches

ME: okei. We will redefine that. Coz words are too powerful. Don’t worry Ill ask the coaches to change
the use of words (smile emoticon)

MRS PANTO: ok go ahead, and change your video as well

ME: Why would I do that? The video does not hurt po. We have a Milo MVP (Kyle Jamora), A NBTC MVP
(Vince Cuajao), A Badminton Player who played for DAVRAA (Dominic Tagayon), and our Vball player
(Marjorie Canete) whos team recently won a vball league. I can see nothing wrong with these
representations

I immediately told Ms Escalera in response to her post regarding my twit about the designs, that these
behaviours of parents is the example why I posted that twit before about making different designs for
the campuses instead. She said she was an open minded person and wished that we will not be in
trouble because we are supporting the same team, Holy Child.

I also asked several people on what to do regarding this incident. I asked the campus heads for some
wisdom regarding this. And all of them say that there is really nothing wrong with the representations.
Even Coaches Roger and Tating say the same. There was nothing wrong with the poster nor the video. I
moved forward after that.

MRS PANTO is a known critic of the school ever since. She even criticized the late Sir Junie Leuterio and
Coach Tating for not doing their jobs well, she also suggested that they retire already because they’re
already old. She kept on criticizing people around her. She Criticize another parent of a former varisty
who sponsored jerseys for some children. She also criticized coach tating and coach roger for choosing
Vence Malero over his son to play for NBTC this year. That made me realize that she is not worth my
time. When they saw me that I no longer have interest with them, they kept on calling my attention one
issue after another. She even compared my works to sir Eno and told some parents why can’t sir Eno
make the same. She is also one of the reasons why Cayle Manlimos was evicted from the Dormitory and
was forced to stay in Coach Roger’s house instead.

… Moving forward graduation day of the Senior High School…

I got a message from Vince Cuajao asking me where he can find the comments of Mrs Panto about the
video. I have not talked to Vince regarding that issue before because we rarely talk at all. I replied to
Vince telling him that I already removed the comment because I found it very immature and should not
be there in the first place.

I just found out that something came up after Mrs Escalera called my attention on Facebook through a
post, tagging my account.

“Koii Canarias (space) Pwde ko makig, sturya sa imuha unya!!! Kay makaguba ka sa akuang adlaw” she
posted publicly online.

I already knew that something came up after reading it. I immediately messaged her, that I have not
talked to Vince regarding anything, and I do not know who shared it to him. I read the comment of the
other parents on the post saying:

Michael Belicario: Halaka. Impas!,,,

Ngeyahahahahaha

Michael Belicario: nindot mangisda karong panahuna

Goylan Aballe Janeth: smells something fishy

Michael Belicario: Korek!

Goylan Aballe Janeth also posted another post online on her wall:

….

Mrs Pinto was concerned about the postings messaged me and told me that Vince confronted the
parent by creating a group chat and asking them what are their problems about the tri-meet video ad I
posted.

Vince Cuajao: Gusto ra nako ma klaro Tita Jhine Licong Sarona Panto, ChubzMacel Escalera Ramilo

Mrs Pinto shared that the conversation rooted a night before the graduation day. Vince was with his
girlfriend scanning through old messages. He read some old messages between her and Vince’s
girlfriend.

….

This is actually the attitudes of the parents that I kept on telling Sir Bobet and the coaches during our
initial meeting as Sports Committee. And even sir Chris Castro can testify as he have observed the same
attitudes during the DAVRAA and NBTC Finals.

This is the very reason, why most of the game organizers won’t invite Holy Child team. Just recently, Mr
Belicario was requested to leave the premise of Gaisano Grand Ilustre Mall – Gaisano Cup after picking a
fight with a Junior Player of the opposing team.

As much as we want to market the school’s sports, as long as we have these kinds of unsportsmaship
attitude that our spectators show, no matter how great our players play, we will always be perceived
negatively because of them.
