the ECDIS prior any in:
‘What display mode is the system current operating on?
There are 3 displays on all kinds of ECDIS ice
a. Base
b. Standard
c. Other
Base display cannot be edited by user, hence is always on the ECDIS screen.
“Standard Display Layers” is editable in some makes (JRC & FURUNO), but
this display is the minimum display required as per IMO required during
Navigation & Passage planning. Important point to note is that, this display
does NOT include soundings and other important navigational marks, hence as
per our procedures “Standard Display” is not sufficient for Navigation &
Passage Planning,
“Other Display Layers” is editable in all makes of ECDIS. Refer to EEG 6.3.2
& 7.2.6.2 for layers to be displayed in addition to “Standard display” during
Passage Planning & Monitoring a route.
ask: Show how to change between different display systems in your ECDIS.

4, How do you achieve the best Seale when using ENC’s?
‘Some makes i.e, Transas have the option of “Auto-Scale”, If “Auto-Seale” is
ON, the scale displayed will be always correct unless there is manual Zoom-In
‘or Zoom-Out or shift of ENCs.
In all makes, watch-keeper should ensure that following alerts are never
activated on the ECDIS for longer time:
a. Over-Scale (means over “Zoomed in” and hence needs to be zoomed out
till no more alerts. Over Zoom is also indicted by numerous parallel
vertical lines on the ENC)
b. Under Scale (means over “Zoomed out” and hence needs to be zoomed in
till alerts ic. “Large Scale Data exist or Under Scale etc. are not active
anymore.)
No Scale related Alerts active on the screen is the best Seale.
Task: Demonstrate how do you get best scale on your ECDIS screen.

6. How do you Query/Interrogate a charted object to obtain more detailed
information?
‘This is also called “Pick Report”. The “Pick Report” gives the information
about the ENC and the object in the area where the cursor placed, The
information obtained from the ‘Pick Report” can be i.e. ENC number,
‘Magnetic Variation, Manual Update, CATZOC, if cursor is placed on the pilot
station it will give information about the pilot station, ete)
Task: Demonstrate how do get information about an object or area from
ECDIS?
