Dear Parishioners,
Today we are presented with further
stories of Jesus’ resurrection. In the Acts of
the Apostles, we see the opposition to the
apostles by the religious authorities. Jesus
had warned his disciples of future
difficulties. They refused to be silenced. In
fact they were glad of the opportunity to be
able to suffer in order to proclaim the name
of Jesusand that he had risen from the dead.
They were defiant of the authorities,
the Sanhedrin, to the point of recklessness.
These are the timid men who ran awy when
Jesus was arrested. Now, in the power of
the Holy Spirit they are speaking boldly and
without fear. This same spirit can inspire
us. The lives of the apostles were radically
renewed, so too, we are renewes by the
spirit of God.
The gospel of John reminds us that the
apostles were dejected and wished to retun
to their old profession, fishing. But even
then they struggled, caught nothing all
night! Jesus helps them out. He tells them
to put out the nets again and lo and behold –
a full catch!
Then Jesus gave that beautiful
invitation: “Come and have breakfast”. Here
is the Risen Jesus, aware that this friends
were fishing all night; they would be cold
and hungry, so he prepares breakfast for
them. Pause and think of how Jesus was
aware if his friends needs – consider his
care for us.
Then he restores Peter to his own
dignity. He had denied Jesus three times –
he declared he didn’t even know Jesus. So
without any humiliation, he gives Peter the
chance to undo his denials. Three times
Jesus asks Peter: “Do you love me”. Each
time Peter says yes, he is given a new task as
Leader of the Apostles and subsequently the
church. It tells how God is patient with us.
When we show our sorrow, we are not only
forgiven, but given a new task to go out and
proclaim the Good News by the way we live.
Peter could have been written off because of
his weakness, the strange thing is, that it
was maybe because of his frailty that Jesus
put his strust in him. Likewise with us.
CONGRATULATIONS to all our young
people who received their First Holy
Communion this weekend. Thanks to all the
families, teachers and leaders for helping
our young people. Likewise to our
Confirmation Group celebrating next
Saturday at 6pm.
HOW DO I PUT THIS? The Annual
General Meeting of PAX Christi takes place
at Maria Fideles School, Euston on Saturday
18th May. Every two years they give awards
to people who have been involved in Peace
work. This year, I have been nominated as
one of those. To share the honour, it would
be nice if some parishioners were able to be
there. Please have a look at the clipoard in
the Church porch and sign up if you are able
to attend.

Westminster Diocese to promote its work
for justice and development. We are looking
for volunteers with public speaking skills
and the ability to work with, and co-
ordinate, small teams of volunteers locally.

 EASTER CONCERT: “TIME TO RISE”
The Verbum Dei missionaries and friends
would like to invite everyone for an
afternoon of prayer through music and art
in an Easter concert on Sunday, 19th May at
2pm in St. John Vianney church, followed by
light refreshment in the hall afterwards.
Suggested donation: £5/person.
All proceed of this fundraising event will
support young adults on an 8-day walking
pilgrimage (from Rome to Assisi) and
mission immersion experience with street
children in the Philippines. Tickets will be
available after Masses this weekend.
