PROPOSAL STATEMENT

The main reason why I want to have this internship be part of my leadership learning process is that I know I
will be gaining valuable knowledge and experience in multiple domains. I want to foster the ability to
effectively persuade people as a result of researching and then applying what I learned to the internship as
well as areas outside of the internship. I also want to pursue this internship in order to become part of a
team and learn how each individual’s perspectives can function simultaneously to achieve something. On
top of this, I want to increase my own professional value for the future.

Internship Site Information

 The office I am working at is located at 4160 Old Post Road, Charlestown, RI 02813, which is where
my supervisors are doing all of their work as well. The internship site is more casual, as it is a start-
up organization rather than a long-established business.

What I Want to Accomplish for the Organization and for Myself

 I want to help this organization optimize its systems in order to grow its online following and
consumer base. By developing my own skills and knowledge in terms of marketing, psychology,
graphic design, and other domains, I will be able to help this organization increase its sales, which is
essentially the goal of any business. With this experience, I will learn how online business works and
how to increase its performance.

Learning Outcomes
 By the end of this semester, I expect to know how to create the ideal advertisement/online post that
captivates peoples’ attention (measured through testing different variables and tracking content
performance). Every week, I will read about a new topic in one of the 3-4 relevant areas and apply
what I gained from the material to the tasks at hand, which will engage me with the process of
knowing, doing, and being. I will optimize my writing skills and use of language within the context of
marketing in order to develop online relationships with potential clients for the organization and to
create effective content. Finally, I will also gain experience in forming concrete business/marketing
related systems or structures out of brainstorming sessions (turning ideas into actions).

Tasks
 Measuring the engagement and reach of social media posts to assess content performance
 Creating online content and organizing them within content management software
 Messaging potential clients and directing them to the organization’s page
 Reading and studying material related to Marketing & Marketing Psychology, Copy-Writing, Graphic
Design, and Online Business Operations
 Brainstorming sessions with both supervisors

Target Outcomes
 Outcome #10: Student will demonstrate the ability to lead a project from start to finish (follow-
through)
 Outcome #49: Students will describe personal application of the above theory (“Leadership Identity
Development Model”)
 Outcome #89: Student will demonstrate proficiency of critical thinking
 Outcome #93: Student will describe personal examples of having used five decision making methods
 Outcome #100: Student will describe examples of using active listening skills

All of these outcomes are relevant to the internship experience, as I have already started a project and am
expected to finish it by the end of the semester. I will be able to describe my own Leadership Identity
Development throughout each stage of the internship and will be using critical thinking to develop systems
that organize random processes. While contacting potential clients, developing the project which I have
already started, and while performing the different tasks, I will be using different decision-making methods.
During brainstorming sessions, I will be using active listening skills to understand what my team needs and to
create meaning out of the topics of discussion.
