1. A 0.20 kg tennis ball strikes the wall horizontally with a speed of 100 m s-1 and it
bounces off with a speed of 70 m s-1 in the opposite direction.
2. A 15.0 g bullet moving at 250 m s-1 strikes a log. Assume that the bullet undergoes
uniform deceleration and stops in 10.0 cm. Find
3. An object of mass 5 kg which is initially at rest is acted upon by a force F that varies
with time as shown in figure below. What is the velocity of the object after 8 s?
Answer: 10 m s-1
4.
An instructor fires a pistol of mass 2.00 kg. If the bullet weighs 20 g and it reaches a
velocity of 150 m s-1 after shooting, determine the recoil velocity of pistol.

RISE @ PHYSICS
5.
The figure shows a boy of 50 kg jumping off a boat at a velocity of 5 m s-1 and lands on
the jetty. If the mass of the boat is 200 kg, determine the velocity of the boat.
6. A bullet of mass 2.0 g strikes a metal block of mass 3.0 kg suspended freely on a string.
The bullet rebounds in the opposite direction at a speed of 250 m s-1 and the block
starts to move at a speed of 0.50 m s-1. Determine the initial speed of the bullet.
7. A bullet of mass 5.0 g strikes a stationary object of mass 1.0 kg. The bullet pierces
through the object and emerges with a speed of 10 m s-1. The object has a speed of
1.0 m s-1. Determine the velocity of the bullet before it strikes the object.
9. An object A of mass 2.0 kg moves to the right at a speed of 5.0 m s-1. Object B of mass
4.0 kg moves to the left at a speed of 8.0 m s-1. Determine the velocity of A and B after
the collision, assuming that the collision is elastic.
10. A ball moving with a speed of 17 m s-1 strikes an identical ball that is initially at rest.
After the collision, the incoming ball has been deviated by 45˚ from its original
direction, and the struck ball moves off at 30˚ from the original direction as shown in
figure below. Calculate the speed of each ball after the collision.
