Comparison of Service Quality between Private and Public Hospitals

I. Relevance to Society

Health care can be provided through a public and private hospital. Public health care is usually
provided by the government while private health care can be provided by the self-employed
practitioner. The Relevance of the public hospital to the society is it can help other people who
are in need because based on the interview, the reason why they choose public hospital than
private is the financial problem, in which due to the high demand in the private hospital. While
in the private hospital the relevance of it to the society is the service itself because in the private
hospital the equipment is complete, a lot of technology apparatuses are there. Also, based on
the interview the people tend to go to the private hospital because they thought that in the
private hospital, they are sure to the service that they received.

In the public hospital, since it was funded by the government it was so relevant to the society
because it can help people who are in need. While the relevance of the private hospital is the
advancement of technology because technology nowadays is very important in curing patients.
Lastly, they are both relevance to society because it can both cure sickness.

We went to Bauan Batangas to conduct interview to some health professionals in both public
and private hospitals. First, we went to a private hospital which is the Bauan Doctors General
Hospital and we Interviewed two health workers and one patient. Second, we went to a public
hospital and we interviewed one health worker and one patient. The result of the interview we
conducted is there are a lot of advantages in working in private hospital compare to the public
hospital. First

VI. Insights/Position

The overall experience for the patients involves numerous factors such as doctors
competence and his interaction with the patients, the behavior of staffs and nurses and doctors
especially the facilities offered by the hospital, overall hygiene and also the ambiance. People are
willing to spend money in order to receive the service quality that they hope for. Patients usually
go to private hospitals than public hospitals or what we called the government hospitals hoping
to receive a good quality of service. Patients tend to go to the private hospital especially those
who have enough money to pay for because private hospitals are more equipped to offer
personalized care. Instead of being responsible for dozens of patients, nurses usually only have a
few to care for at a time. They tend to stay on the cutting edge of technology more easily than
public hospitals, and they often have relaxing amenities that make them feel they are only in
their house than hospitals. And the ratio between the doctor and patient are usually good. But
there are also drawbacks when it comes to the private hospital. They also tend to be more
expensive and there are just certain times they refuse to treat a patient if they think that it can’t
pay for their hospital bills. While in public hospitals they are more usually affordable because
they are funded by the government and when you visit a public hospital it is sure that you will
receive a treatment even though you can’t afford to pay for your bills because they just can’t
refuse and say no to a patient who is in need. And mostly the services are free but you will have
to wait longer. Like in the private hospital there is also a drawback in a public hospital. Although
public hospitals have a lot more employees, nurses and doctors the ratio between the doctor and
patient do not tend to be very good. You also have to wait for hours before seeing the doctors or
to be treated.

For us, both are helpful in curing sickness. In terms of the public hospital, they are a lot of
hindrances in curing sickness like they are lack of advancement in technology. While in the private
hospital they are complete in technology, they are advance because a lot of practitioners in the
private hospital are self-employed and it is not based on the government. So it is better to consult
in private hospital than the public hospital.

VII. Recommendations

In an emergency, there is no time to choose between private and public hospitals. But when
it comes to arranging treatments, and you are very much concern about your health it will
depend on your needs, the comfort, privacy, ambiance and most especially the service. In
choosing what hospital you desire, you have to consider your social status. But at the end of the
day, both private and public hospitals are good.
We recommend that consult to the hospital that you can afford because both private and the
public has the ability to serve you. But they have differences in serving and curing patients
because in the private hospital they can cure patients with the help of advancement in
technology while in the public hospital there is a lack of technology.
