Topping of slab
(Alhikma Education institution)

1. introduction
This method of statement cover the detail procedure to followed for screed/topping operation above roof
slab. This procedure shall be read in conjunction with contract specification where applicable. The
purpose of this procedure
ure is to define how to screed/topping

3. General requirement
Material-
As per material submittal and approval.

Manpower-
Manpower requirement such as Construction Manager, Project Engineer, Foreman, Surveyor, Skilled
labor, MEP worker and helper will be available depends upon the site requirement .

Equipment-
Air Compressor
Brush
Concrete Pump
Trowel, Tamper
Showel, Hand Float, Vibrator

4. Construction program
The work shall be carried out as per approved sequence of program.

a) Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be clean, free from dust, oil and any trace of foreign materials that may affect bonding.
Dry porous substrates should be dampened before application of Floor Screed.

b) PC Slab joints
provide Chicken mesh at construction joint with flexible sheet if required.

c) Contraction/Control Joints
Contraction/control joints are placed in concrete slabs to control random cracking.

d) Steel Reinforcement
Steel reinforcement done as per approved drawing.

e) MEP inspection/clearance

Check that the mechanical and electrical services under screed has been completed, inspected approved as
per drawing.

f) Workmanship
a) Level guide shall be install at proper interval as per topping drawing.
b) Topping concrete poured carefully without damaging any precast element.

c) Apply Floor Screed onto the substrate using a wooden/steel float or trowel. For screed with thickness
of 80 to 200mm as per approved drawing.
d) Topping shall be fully compacted by vibrator.
e) After completion of casting enough number of worker must be available for finishing works, cleaning
and protection work.

g) curing.
Curing should be done with clean water as specified in specification.

h) Housekeeping
All work place will be cleaned from waste materials and ensure clean and healthy environment as well as
maintain free access and egress in the event of emergency.

i) Safety
All work shall be controlled as per safety procedure.
Safety equipment will be worn at all times.
safety procedure are to be considered before, through and after completion of the work to avoid any
possibility of damages to human or construction.

5. Inspection and testing of toppings


1 Inspection
Before the finishing work start, the base should be checked for any departure from level, to ensure that the
require thickness of finish can be applied.

The work should be inspected during progress and after completion, attention being paid to the following
points:
a) materials.
b) preparation of the base, where the finish is to be bonded.
c) batching and mixing.
d) proper compaction.
e) correct finishing.
f ) correct curing.
g) making and curing cubes (if require) topping mixes.

2 Testing of the completed work


After completion of the work, the following tests should be carried out:
a) levels and surface flatness of toppings.
b) adhesion of bonded screeds and toppings to the base.
c) curling and lipping of unbounded screeds.
d) soundness of bonded and unbounded screeds.
e) testing of cubes.
