Reflective Essay

In English 1302 or Composition 2, I learned a lot from the three major essays which were

Rhetorical Analysis, Causal Argument and Proposal Essays that I did for this class. I was able to

improve on my writing skills in different ways and was able to better understand the concept of

the casual argument essay being done during that time. The causal argument assignment took a

long time, but it was easy to write as the topic of the essay was about the use of technology in the

society which had one cause and many effects. The use of technology for the causal argument

essay taught me the most as I was able to understand the concept very well which helped me in

organizing the essay properly, having good research with evidence to back up the causes and

effects and improving in my sentence structure in my essay.

Firstly, I was able to understand the Causal Argument Essay better as it helped me to

organize my work in a good manner which was better than the Rhetorical Analysis Essay. From

the rhetorical analysis to the causal argument, I was able to get my focus and logic on point as

the concept of the causal argument was cause and effect. The thesis and topic sentences were

related to each other because I had the three main effects in my thesis statement to later explain

in my topic sentence for each body paragraph. It also helped me to find correct evidence for each

effect of the use of technology in the society in recent years. The thesis and topic sentences

helped me to keep the essay in the same topic without explaining anything else that is not related

to the use of technology.

Secondly, this topic, the use of technology for the causal argument, helped me to find

good information to research from the online library database. This is where most of my

information came from. I used quotes and paraphrased some sentences to use in my essay. From

my draft to the final copy, I had all my quotes in quotation marks. I used all quotes in correct

sentence and put all the in text-citation next to each of my quotes and paraphrased information in

the essay. I improved in my sentence structure as some of the quotes in my sentence did not

make sense in my rough draft.

Thirdly, I was able to improve my sentence structure from draft to the final copy of the

casual argument. Some improvements that I made are “Digital Technology has evolved over the

years and people use the internet or apple music to stream their favorite music which are in

digital form.” I have become a better writer as the causal argument assignment helped me to

improve my grammar and sentence structure for my essay. Some of the sentence is the draft did

not make sense and was not in the correct tense and did not have commas and had missing

words. I was able to correct my sentences for mistakes and improved on my writing.

In conclusion, this causal argument essay has taught me a lot in how to organize my

paper, stay in topic, have good research from trustworthy websites and improve my sentence

structure skills. This essay has helped me be a better writer and has helped me prepare for many

other essays for other college classes. It has also taught me about where to find reliable

information to use for my essay.
