(Save as word document and type responses into this document for each week)
Respond thoroughly to each of the following: Number and letter each as it is listed here:

1. Description of activities you engaged in this period.

I was getting to know the hospital staff and create a general idea of what they were doing
in the hospital. In addition, I finished the paper works for the Human Resources Department in
order to get my Intern Identification.

a) Describe your activities in some detail.

Some of the activities that I performed during this period of time include the knowledge
of the hospital's staff, what the staff was doing in the hospital which is composed of going to
meetings with them. In addition, I was exchanging office departments shadowing some of the
staff employees while they were working for me to learn more of each department to have an
overview and think of which ones were more interesting for me.

b) Include your reactions to these activities and to your clients and peers.
My reactions were very professional, but internally I was so happy for all the process that
I was watching and involved in; it was very exciting to actually see what the real world of my
major was like. This week was more of getting to know the different departments and understand
the staff’s daily tasks to prepare for what I was going to be working with and the work I was
going to be looking at.

c) Were you supervised during these activities?

Yes, I was supervised during these activities. The majority of the time Ms. Shepard was
with me, but if I was in an employee’s office or in my office, then I was without supervision.

1. If yes, describe the supervision and include your reaction to your supervisor
and supervision.
The supervision was very professional, and, at the same time, I felt their
supervision was great since they always made me feel so welcome. My reaction to
Ms. Shepard’s supervision was professional and very friendly and always made
sure I was understanding everything.
2. If no, describe your activities when you were not supervised and your
reactions.
When I was without supervision, I had the same behavior as if I was being
supervised because I wanted to make sure everything I did was done effectively
and responsibly. I had a great respect for Ms. Shepard and it was never my
intention to lose the trust and faith that she gave to me.

2. What did you expect to learn through these activities?

Related to:
a. Your specific organization?
I expect to learn more in depth whether the organization’s Mission, Vision, and
Values are true according to the actions that the staff perform and the services that
they provide.
b. Other “professionals” with whom you had contact?
I contacted other staff in a few other departments such as in the Information
Technology Office, the Crouse Medical Practice Compliance Office, the Critical
Event Review, the HIPAA Offices, Trauma, and Obstetric office. Furthermore, I met
Ms. Shepard's staff which constantly helped her with her role in the hospital and my
expectations, which were to learn more about other professionals and see their
everyday tasks, were met.
c. Your clients?
I did not have any direct contact with the clients.

3. What exactly did you learn through these activities?

Related to:
a) Your specific organization?
I learned in a lot of depth the reason why this organization is a “non-for-profit”
one and how it really is engaged with employees, doctors, patients, among others in
all aspects. I also learned what “non-for-profit” really means and how Crouse
Hospital is so committed with the community’s needs and resources and with the
citizens that come to obtain healthcare services.

b) Other “professionals” with whom you had contact?

Other professionals I had contact with during this week were the security guards
because, one day, I did not have my Identification and they stopped me and explained
to me that I must have my ID at all times if I am indeed part of the hospital’s staff for
me to be able to enter into the hospital’s facilities.

c) Your clients?
N/A

4. Can you identify any initiatives as required by the organization’s performance improvement
planning or as required by the regulatory bodies, such as CMS?
a) If so, what are they and who is requiring them?
Yes, I can. Ms. Shepard’s office is one of the offices that was in charge of
regarding some of the obligations as an intern; I was in charge of following and
monitoring all the requirements that Medicare and Medicaid need in order to receive
federal funds for the Hospital as it is a non-for-profit organization. I helped Ms. Shepard
in these activities in order to improve the performance plan of the hospital and help the
team to keep the funds organized in a more effective way.

b) If you can't identify do you see an opportunity for performance improvement?

N/A

5. What activities do you expect to be engaged in during the next 40 hours of internship work?
I am expected to be engaged in meetings with Ms. Shepard’s team and pay attention to
the discussions on the topics to know what they will be doing in the hospital regarding the
situation that the hospital is currently confronting, but, obviously, this really depends on the
department I will be in.

6. What do you expect to learn during the activities of the next 40 hours of internship work?
I am expected to know Ms. Shepard’s team and what the staff will be doing in the
hospital. I expect to learn more in depth more about the department I will be working in and
make evident the expectations of the job to help the team effectively and efficiently in every
manner. Furthermore, I expect to learn and get to know more of the staff in the hospital and how
they perform their jobs daily in order for them to take out the mission, vision, and values of the
organization.

7. What do you WANT to learn? Have you communicated this to your supervisor?
I want to learn why Ms. Shepard and her team are extremely respected in the hospital and
why they are so essential for the hospital. In addition, I want to learn all of the office departments
that the hospital has and why those offices are so essential for the future of the hospital. Yes, I
have communicated this to my supervisor.
