The Periodic Table

By:David

Now, you’ve probably heard of helium or oxygen these
are elements from the periodic table and right now I'll teach
you about the elements, the man who made the periodic table
and fun facts.

First I'll tell you about the elements of the periodic table.
If you don't know what I mean by elements these are many
things including alkali metals, Transition metals, lanthanide
metals, actinide metals, noble gases, halogens, metalloids and
other non metals. Every element has atom structures. These
atom structures are made from protons, electrons and
neutrons. Now you might have seen an element like iron on
the internet or in a book and it shows a Chemical symbol then
Fe. The Fe stands for the chemical symbol of the element.
For example gold's chemical symbol is Au and so all elements
have different chemical symbols. The reason why iron’s
chemical symbol is Fe is because it was found in latin so iron
in latin is Ferrum and Gold was also found in latin and gold is
pronounced Aurum in latin. You might also see numbers in the
corner like 48 or 98.074. These are the atomic number and
atomic mass number so here comes another example and I’ll
use helium. Heliums atomic number is 2 and the atomic mass
number is 4.0026. These numbers also depend how they are
organized in the periodic table and how much they weigh.

Now you're probably thinking well who made this
monstrosity of science well that man was Dmitri Mendeleev.
Dmitri Mendeleev made the periodic table and introduced it in
1869. Dmitri was a russian scientist and made the periodic
table for his chemistry career. The periodic table helped
people understand the elements with less confusion. It is
used by many scientists today. The periodic table has been
modified many times for even better understanding of
elements.

Last but not least I will tell you some interesting facts
about the elements from the periodic table. There are a total
of 118 elements but only 94 are found naturally around the
world. Helium is very rare but found 2nd most common in the
world. The lightest element that we know of in the universe is
hydrogen. Fire, air, earth and water was referred elements
names in old times. Osmium is made into some type of
powder and is used for crime scenes for example if there is
a weapon they use or rub osmium on the weapon to find the
fingerprint of who used it.

So now you know about the elements, who made the
periodic table and some interesting facts you can tell to your
friends and family. Thank you.
