Medieval Love

Beauty lies within the human, not just physical attributes. Chaucer was born in the mid-

evil time as to people he was known as father of literature. He was the first person to write about

lower class, middle class, and the general population. In the wife of bath many hundred years ago

the times fairies everywhere it came to pass a knight who dwelt at king Arthur, a Knight

incorrectly disrespected girl and in the mid evil times it means death towards any disrespect.

However now that the knight did such a crime he had to talk to the queen to determine is hate.

The queen gave him one year and one day to figure out what girl’s desire most in men. Chaucer

define love as something precious something that never dies.

Chaucer define love in his tale a wife of bath of tales. Chaucer definition of love as

something that lives within someone. “I believe that you are wise and good, and I take you for

my true and faithful wife.” (Chaucer 4) it explains that beauty lies within yourself and it won’t be

flourish and beautiful unless you expect how and you’re companied is. After reading the knight

sat a listen instead of being angry that he married an old lady that’s ugly, however the old lady

told him something he never will forget. “would you rather have an old and poor and homely

come of common folk, but a faithful, loving wife or perchance, young and rich and handsome

and high birth, but carless of your love and false to you.”(Chaucer 3-4) This defines love because

after hearing that the knight listen and agrees so he raise up the curtain and shortly after the once

ugly crone became this young fair and charming girl. You can never judge someone love because

of how they look they should be judge on how they care for you, how you can always depend on

that person.

Chaucer define love as equal partnership. Chaucer belief that everyone was equal,

everyone had a say. For example in the tale a knight disobey a rule and the rules is to respect and

treat others how you want to be treated. If not obeyed the consequence was death but King

Arthur ask the queen and the queen was able to decide the Knight fate. Not to mention that also

explains respect and shows gender-roles
