Social Studies: Boston Massacre May 2,2019

 Standards

H-SS 5.5.1: Understand how political, religious, and economic ideas and interests
brought about the Revolution (e.g., resistance to imperial policy, the Stamp Act, the
Townshend Acts, taxes on tea, Coercive Acts).

 Goals and Objectives

The goal of this lesson and objective is to teach and establish an understanding of the Boston
Massacre, as well as the causes and effects that took place that enabled this event to happen in
our American history. I want my students to take notes on the event using AVID strategy to aid
and support students in understanding on this major event that we still discuss today. In this
lesson I want to address any misunderstandings and gather questions that my students have on
this event or any previous events that has been taught. My students will use hands on activities
and participate in exercises that build on understanding and scaffold prior knowledge.

 Assessment

I will incorporate informal assessments throughout the lesson to check for understanding. I will
use thumbs up thumbs down as well as use their activities as a reference on how students are
grasping these concepts, events, and sequence of the American Revolution. A formal assessment
will be given during the next lesson.
