Inquiry Project Step Two: Research Review

Part One: Hashtag your topic

- Keywords and Key phrases:

o Satisfaction in jobs
o Expectations in jobs
o What is rewards about work?
o What do people find interesting about work?
o Why do people work?
o What do you look for in a job?
o What do you expect from a company?

When searching for the information needed for my inquiry question, I had to be tedious in
finding the right information. These phrases did help me find, in the end, the information I was
looking for. I required me to dig a little deeper than I expected but I got what I needed. I found
out that words like “satisfaction,” “rewarding,” and “expectations” all will yield information that
can be used in my paper. However, I did learn that, often, when I searched the question “what is
rewarding about a profession?” information that talked about what you do to receive rewards in a
job often popped up. This was frustrating but through other key words and phrases I found the
information I needed.
Part Two: Map out the convo:
Part Three: Search for Themes and Develop a Stance:

In doing the research for this inquiry project, I feel I have found really good information and
results that can be integrated into my paper. My first source is just straight responses from a
survey that asked people to give rewarding aspects of their jobs. This article is good because it
breaks down the responses based on what job field they came from. I agree with many responses
in this article and it relieves me to see that there are passionate about their jobs and do it for
things other than money. The second source I have focuses on why people work. This article
has a strong center around leadership and how people often work for promotions. People work
to “climb the totem pole.” This article ties in with my third source which talks a lot about people
work for their reputations. They don’t want to be known as lazy bums or sorry workers all their
life. I think this is very important because I feel people should care about their reputation.
People should care, to an extent, what their coworkers think of them. My fourth source was a
YouTube video that listed reasons why people work. The number one response was the same as
the number one response in my fifth source. Money. Now in the YouTube video it says in the
end that regardless of the reason people work it can always be traced to that fact that people just
like to feel good about themselves. Source five was interesting to me because it specifically
focused on my generation. It talked about what millennials look for in jobs. The answer…
money. Now there were other interesting reason why millennials work due to the different work
conditions of those from earlier generations. I feel, after doing my research, I have five good
sources that should be able to help me construct a very well written paper that, hopefully,
answers my question: Why do people work and what do they expect in return?

Part Four: Give credit when it’s due:
