Plane Crazy ReadMe - (c) Inner Workings March 1998

* Installation

Software protection: In order to play Plane Crazy you must have the
disc loaded in your CD-ROM drive.

Put the CD in the CD-Rom drive and from the Autorun screen choose
language and follow the on screen instructions. After installation,
select PLAY from the Autorun screen.

* DirectX(tm) 5.0

What is DirectX(tm)? - DirectX(tm) 5.0 has been wholly developed by

Microsoft(c) to run under Windows(c)95. The result is that programs
and software designed exclusively for Windows(c)95 and that are using
DirectX(tm) routines are able to talk directly to the hardware.
Therefore your games will run faster and your graphics will be
smoother. However, in order for DirectX(tm) 5.0 to work properly you
must ensure that you have compatible DirectX(tm)5.0 drivers installed
on your computer.

Troubleshooting

First and foremost, you must ensure that DirectX(tm) 5 is fully

installed on your system. To do this, re-run DirectX(tm) 5.0 from
the CD-ROM by clicking on START > RUN and type:

"D:\PLANE CRAZY\ENGLISH\DIRECTX\DXSETUP.EXE"

(D: being the letter assigned to your CD Drive)

In the box that appears, you should have a list of all of the
different DirectX(tm) 5.0 components. All those in the list
should have the word Certified and a version number. If some
of the components in the list are not Certified, you will either:

a) Need to reinstall DirectX(tm) 5.0 or

b) If reinstalling doesn't work, you will need to contact the

suppliers of your system and ask them to provide updated
drivers for Windows(c) 95.

The most common drivers in the list that aren't always updated are the
Display driver or the Audio driver. The Display driver is the Video
driver and the Audio driver is the Sound driver. If any of these are
not updating, obtain the latest driver from your supplier and once
installed, reinstall the DirectX(tm) 5.0 program.

N.B. The latest drivers in DirectX(tm) 5.0 start with the number 4 etc.

Plane Crazy has been developed and tested with the most recent versions
of the DirectX(tm) 5 display drivers. Problems may be experienced
while running Plane Crazy with older display drivers. If you do
encounter such problems, contact your video card manufacturer to
obtain the most recent version of their display drivers.
* Microsoft DirectShow(tm)

Microsoft DirectShow(tm) is required to run the Plane Crazy title .AVI

If not already on the user's machine (DirectShow comes as standard with
Internet Explorer 4) the program is included on the CD for separate
installation... To install Microsoft DirectShow(tm) from the CD-ROM
click on START > RUN and type:

"D:\PLANE CRAZY\DXMWRAP.EXE"

(D: being the letter assigned to your CD Drive)

* Network Play

If you select OTHER from the network options, you will be presented
with at least two connection types. A HOST and JOIN button allow the
players to select which player will Host the session and which player
will Join the session. This type of game works like a lobbied game,
in that the HOST must select the course, and the player can only join
the course selected by the HOST. The main difference is that once a
course has been finished, the players are returned to the internal
lobby to select a new course. The Host must wait until the other
player has returned to the lobby before selecting a new course, or
the machines may get out of sync.

* Install level for Network Play

A full install will be required if you intend to play a network

game without Plane Crazy CD in the Drive. At least one person must
have the Plane Crazy CD-Rom in the drive - This person will become
the MASTER.

* Serial connection for DirectPlay

Selecting this option brings up a DirectPlay Serial Connection Dialog

Box. All options should be set to the same on both machines.

The options are:

Port - You must select the COM Port that your Serial Cable is
connected to.

Baud Rate - Select the highest baud rate that the port is capable of
supporting. The baud rate must be at least 9600bps, and
both machines should be set to the same baud rate.

Parity - Select No Parity

Flow - You should use hardware RTS/DTR for flow control

* Modem connection for DirectPlay

This allows two players to connect directly using modems. You should
setup your modem before running Plane Crazy.

If you select HOST: Select the modem that you wish to use and select
Answer in the dialog box.
If you select JOIN: Enter the telephone number of the person who is
hosting the game and select OK. Plane Crazy should
dial the HOST machine, and connect the two
computers, once they are connected, the game will
start.

* Checkpoints in network play

Only in a network game can the player select the checkpoint times to be
off. If the HOST of a session (the player who first selects the
session), has checkpoint times off, all players in the session will
play with the checkpoint times off. Once the first player crosses
the finish line, all other player will have 30 seconds to complete the
game before being timed out.

* Folder Shortcuts to Saved Planes & Ghost Planes

Should any problems be encountered in accessing the ghost or saved

planes via the start menu, open their properties and remove the
'Start In' path.

* Important notes when using Joysticks and Gamepads

If you use a Joystick with 3 Axes (e.g. with throttle-control), the

3rd axis will automatically be used to control the speed. The buttons
for accelerate and decelerate are then disabled.
