LUCE E RESTAURO
10

Metal halide lamps provide a fairly good spectrum and long lifetime;
warm white versions are the most suitable for artistic illumination.
Fluorescent lamps are generally used for grazing light effects on façades;
they allow for considerable energy saving and the possibility of choosing
among different colour temperatures between 3000 and 6000° K.
Xenon filament lamps are often used for the illumination of façades:
the soft and warm light that they produce, about 2600°K,
is perfect for the illumination of historical buildings with particular colours.

in particolare tramite sorgenti LED RGB,
diventa un vasto campo di sperimentazione;
necessari interventi invasivi e definitivi.
More recently, light has played a leading role

di materiali fotosensibili, come spesso accade
The reversibility of light is a fundamental aspect
in restoration works, that allows for research
and experimentation, otherwise unthinkable.
Thus the use of colour,
in particular through RGB LEDs,
becomes a vast field of experimentation;
an example is the recreation of the colours
of the Trajan’s column or the figures on the portals
of Gothic cathedrals: thanks to its versatility,
light becomes an important instrument
aiming to recover the original
characteristics of a monument,
avoiding any invasive or irreversible mistakes.
Thanks to light, a work of art can be “re-painted”
with its original colours, only for a short lapse of time,
for temporary installations or for nocturnal enjoyment,
and be brought back to its original aspect anytime.
A further advantage of LEDs
is their low working temperature,
that allow for the application
for the illumination of thermosensitive materials,
as it often happens when it comes to
ancient monuments and historical buildings.
