At present. DoD and the services have enough objections to basic elements a!
the script that some major rework will be required. It became clear in the
meeting that each of the services will support the movie -- provided changes
are made -- except for the Alt Force!
ARMY: objected to members of their light infantry divisions (with night scopes
and high-powered rifles) sniping a ‘ ‘ “ ‘ ‘ ‘ an ‘ r ‘
peasants. The peasants were engaged in growing and shipping illegal drugs.
The Army would like to see the peasants pictured as more heavily armed and more
aggressive. Participants agreed this could easily be written into the script.
NAVY Objected to having aircraft take of! from a carrier without the
knowledge of the CO. Navy proposes to have do know about_it. but some other
prominent officer does not. This seen as an easy fix.
EARINES: objected to wrong kind of aircraft attacking drug lords. wanted
Marine Harrier shown as an attacking aircraft. This seen as an easy fix.
COAST GUARD: Shown as playing some role in the original script. but minor, and
mostly nun-combative. Once the Coast Guard participants realized that the
other services seemed to be coming on board. they decided they wanted to play.
They propose to have themselves included in some heavier combat role against
drug shippers.
AIR FORCE: Only objection was that two P-159 shoot down "innocent' unarmed
civilian aircraft. Our Air Force representative has now moved further away
from 53; Air Force participation. suggesting instead that perhaps the only air
Force play should be an AWACS controlling other services' aircraft. There's n
LLQ problem with this approach: ’
think we need to make these points to Chuck Davis as he joins the other DoD
olks in negotiations with the producers. he won't like it. but he needs to
aka a broader view on this one or the Air Force is going to be the loser.
