1.0. OBJECIVE
The coating resistance survey is carried out to compute the specific coating resistance for
sections of pipeline between consecutive B Type Test Lead Points. The absolute value of the
coating resistance gives an idea of the quality of coating and comparison of these values for
different sections enables grading of the coating .

4.1.CALIBRATION FACTOR
The Calibration Factor in Amps / mV of each B type TLP is determined by measuring the mV
drop in span of pipeline when known test current is given between outer terminals using the
battery powered calibration unit . The ratio of Test Current / mV drop is the Calibration
Factor (CF)
COATING RESISTANCE SURVEY
The line current in pipeline at B Type TLP is the product of mV drop across span ( length of
pipeline between inner terminals P1 & P2 ) x CF.
The difference between mV drop with TRU “ON” and TRU “OFF” gives the mv drop across
the span .
The current picked up by section of pipeline between two consecutive B type TLPs is the
algebraic difference between line currents at the TLPs
The output of Main line TRU in AVCC mode shall be interrupted by activating the current
interrupter of TRU output for synchronized cyclic interruption at 4 sec ON and 1 sec OFF.
The PSP readings at all TLPs in the section shall be recorded using a Data Logger to log the
PSP readings at frequency of 1 sec for period of 1 minute.
The data in logger shall be downloaded and the the PSP “ON” and instantaneous PSP “OFF”
for each cycle of interruption shall be taken from the plot.
The shift in PSP = PSP “ ON “ – PSP “ OFF” of each TLP shall be computed .
The average shift in PSP for each section shall be computed which will generally be the
average of PSP shifts at the two B type TLPs defining the boundary of section and
intermediate A type TLP
