Experiment Number – 1

Aim of the experiment: Create Desktop Virtualization using Google Remote Desktop.
o One VM to Another VM
o Host OS to Guest OS
o Mobile to Guest OS
o Mobile to Host OS

Requirements:
1. Google Crome with Crome Remote Desktop installed.
2. Mobile.
3. VMware Workstation.
4. Two Virtual Machines.

Theory:
Chrome Remote Desktop is an extension of the Google Chrome browser that allow a user to
remotely see and control another user's remote desktop through the browser windows.
It is a remote desktop software tool developed by Google that allows a user to remotely control
another computer through a proprietary protocol developed by Google unofficially called
"Chromoting". It transmits the keyboard and mouse events from one computer to another,
relaying the graphical screen updates back in the other direction, over a network.
In order to get the Computer Access from the phone. The user can use the same email account or
two different email accounts in both of the devices and also good Internet Connection for a
smooth desktop virtualization. It is not possible to get the connection if the user does not enter the
same email address which is also valid.

Steps:
1. One VM to another VM
Step 1: Open the Google Chrome browser or if you don’t have it then download it on both
the virtual machines from the official website of Google Crome as shown below.
Step 2: Then wait till chrome is installed in your virtual machine then sign in to the Google
Chrome with your email id.
Step 3: Now after you have signed in to google chrome, add the Chrome Remote Desktop
Application to the Chrome Browser by searching it in the search bar.
Step 4: After you have added the Crome Remote Desktop to your Chrome Browser, now click
Launch App and Launch the app in your Browser.

Step 5: After launching the app in your browser this icon will appear in the app section of
your browser and also at the task bar at the bottom of PC.
Step 6: Now repeat the steps 1 to 4 in the other virtual machine. But keep in mind you can
sign in to Google Crome with same or different email id it’s on you.
Step 7: Run the App in both the virtual machines to get started with the Remote
Virtualization. There are two options Remote Assistance and My Computers.

Step 8: Click on get Started on the Remote Assistance area to start with the connection. And then
you will see two buttons Share and Access. Decide which VM wants to share and which VM
wants to access. And click the button based on which VM wants to share.
Step 9: Once you click the share button you will be asked to download a host file. Download it
and install in it your PC.

Step 10: Once you have installed the Host file, the chrome remote desktop will generate an access
code which will be needed to start sharing.
Else if you click on the access in the other virtual machine, a window will pop up where you have
to enter the access code generated previously to start sharing.

Step 11: Enter the access code generated by the VM which is sharing to the other VM which was
going to connect and press connect. Then press share button on the VM which is sharing to start
the remote virtualization.

Step 12: After clicking the share button, you will see that one VM can take control over the
other VM. The VM sharing can take away the control by clicking on the Stop Sharing button.
2. Guest OS to Host OS
Step 1: Open or Download Google Chrome from the internet and then sign in to the Chrome
with same or different email id. Then Add Chrome Remote Desktop to the Chrome
Browser.
Step 2: Now repeat the Steps 4 to 12 same as done in the previous stage. But here we will be
using one Virtual Machine and one Host Machine instead of two Virtual Machines.

3. Mobile to Guest OS
Step 1: Download the Google Chrome Remote Desktop in your mobile from play store and
also add Chrome Remote Desktop App your Chrome Browser in your guest OS.
Step 2: Now to give Computer access to your phone. On My Computer click Get Started
start the connection and press Enable Remote Connection.
Step 3: After clicking enable remote connection you have accept and install Chrome
Remote Control Host. Click accept and install to start installing. Now you will be asked to
give a six-digit pin, give pin and press ok.

Step 4: Now you will see that Remote Connection has been enabled.
Step 5: Now open the Google Remote Desktop on your mobile, now you will be able to see the
computers which are ready for sharing. Tap the computer name if it’s online. Now you will be
asked to give the pin you have set before in your computer.

Step 6: After clicking on the Connect button you can now control your computer from your
mobile.
4. Mobile to Host OS
Step 1: Download the Google Chrome Remote Desktop in your mobile from play store and
also add Chrome Remote Desktop App your Chrome Browser in your Host OS.
Step 2: Repeat the steps 2 – 6, all the steps will be same the only difference is that previously
we were connecting Mobile with Guest OS but now we will be connecting the Mobile with
Host OS.
