THE TRUE GODHEAD

(2010 Revision)
This is a simplified study with Bible verses and quotes from Ellen G. White on the true Godhead as it is revealed,
about who really is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It also declares what is: the seal of God, proper baptism,
the true church of the end time and other topics of interest.

Colossians 2:1-3 For I would have you know how greatly I strive for you, and for them at Laodicea, and
for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit
together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the
mystery of God, even Christ, in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden.
(American Standard Version)

CLASSES OF GOD’S CHILDREN

 By creation:
- Men: Luke 3:38 son of Enos, son of Seth, son of Adam, son of God.
- Angels: Job 38:6,7 To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, When the morning
stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

 By adoption:
- The pardoned men: 1º John 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should
be called children of God,
Galatians 4:5 To redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

By birth: Begotten Son, Only Begotten, = Christ

Monogenes: Strong's dictionary definition: only born = Only Begotten

G3439 µονογενης monogenēs
From G3441 and G1096; only born, that is, sole: - only (begotten, child).

John 3:16,17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in
Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him
might be saved.

John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father,
He has declared Him.

Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

John 7:28,29 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know
whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.
But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.

John 5:26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

John 6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall
live by me.

John 16:28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go
to the Father.

John 13:3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come
from God, and went to God;

1

John 18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a
king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness
unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
Clarification: It should be noted the order of events described by Jesus. First I was born in heaven of the
Father, and then I came to the world. Here he does not refer to his birth on earth; otherwise Jesus would
say it in the opposite order: for this I came into the world and I was born.

2º John 1:3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus
Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

One of the titles given to Christ is Wisdom. It’s corroborated in:

1º Corinthians 1:24,30 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God,
and the wisdom of God.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and
sanctification, and redemption:

Also, if we compare the texts of Luke 11:49 and Matthew 23:34 we see that Luke says that the Wisdom of
God is speaking. And in Matthew, he describes that Christ is speaking, and that they both share the same
theme, clearly establishing that Christ is called the Wisdom of God.

Proverbs 8:22-30 declares that Christ was begotten of the Father before any creation.
The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from
everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.
When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains.
Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the
earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.
When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he
established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his
decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the
earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always
before him;

1º John 5:1,18 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him
that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself,
and that wicked one toucheth him not.

John 1:1-13 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.
In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness
comprehended it not.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light that all men through him might believe.
He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light That was the true Light, which lighteth
every man that cometh into the world.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe
on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of
God.

Psalms 2:2,7 The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the
LORD and against His Anointed, saying,
I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten
thee.

2
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
Hebrews 5:5,8 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him,
Thou art my Son, today have I begotten thee.
Though He was a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered.

Isaiah 43:10-12 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may
know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither
shall there be after me. I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. I have declared, and
have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses,
saith the LORD, that I am God.

The word “Formed" as it’s defined in the Strong’s dictionary:

H3335 yatsar
Probably identical to H3334 (through the squeezing into shape); (compare H3331); to mould into a form;
especially as a potter; figuratively to determine (that is, form a resolution): - X earthen, fashion, form, (-r),
frame, make potter, purpose.

A quote from Ellen G. White clarifying Isaiah 43:10 exclusively for Seventh Day Adventist:
This Day with God (TDG) (Chap. 3 p.11) “The work of every believer is aggressive. It is a daily warfare.
Christ is saying…: "Ye are my witnesses" (Isaiah 43:10). Think it; speak it; act it. Heaven is just next
door. Open the door heavenward and close the door earthward…”

Clarification: These verses only refer to Christ and say that He is the only-begotten because there was no
God made before him, nor any after him. The Father is not a formed God: He is the eternal, the self-
existent One, without beginning.

Zechariah 3:8, 9 …behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. For behold the stone that I have
laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof,
saith the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

Branch means a stem or limb growing from the trunk (The Father). Also, notice that the stone is
unique (only begotten) and has seven eyes. To know who the stone is and what these seven eyes mean, let’s
compare it with Acts 4:11 and Revelation 4:6. Then, we’ll see that the stone is Jesus himself and the 7
eyes symbolize His own omnipresence.

John 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

John 1:49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of
Israel.

John 6:69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and
that believing ye might have life through his name.

Matthew 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Mark 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him
also freely give us all things?

Hebrews 1:2-3 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all
things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express
image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged
our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son
of God, let us hold fast our profession.

3
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
John 5:18,23 (ESV) This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he
breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
That all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son
does not honor the Father who sent him.

1º John 2:22-24 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth
the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that
acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the
beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall
continue in the Son, and in the Father.

Clarification: Jesus is eternal, but this doesn’t mean that He has no beginning instead it means that He has
no end. Eternal means only without end unless it’s specified that it is without beginning. For example, the
saved will have eternal life, but they clearly have a beginning. What they will not have is an end. The Father
is the only Divine being without beginning.

GOD THE FATHER, IS THE FATHER AND HEAD OF CHRIST

Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama
sabachthani? that is, My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?

John 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my
brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Romans 15:6 That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ.

1º Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the
woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

1º Corinthians 3:23 And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's.

1º Corinthians 15:27,28 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put
under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things
shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things
under him, that God may be all in all.

2º Corinthians 1:3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies,
and the God of all comfort;

2º Corinthians 11:31 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore,
knoweth that I lie not.

Ephesians 1:3,17 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all
spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom
and revelation in the knowledge of him:

Hebrews 1:8-9 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of
righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore
God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Revelation 3:12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no
more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which
is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new
name.

WHO IS THE ONLY TRUE GOD WHO HAS NO BEGINNING, FROM WHOM ALL THINGS
PROCEED?

John 5:44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh
from God only?

Romans 16:27 to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ,
whom thou hast sent.

1º Thessalonians 1:9, 10 and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God; And to
wait for his Son from heaven,

Jude 3-5 Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it
necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to
the saints.
For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly
men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus
Christ. But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of
the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

1º Timothy 6:13-16 I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus
who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep this commandment without spot,
blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the
blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality,
dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and
everlasting power. Amen.

1º Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him;
and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.

Ephesians 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

Hebrews 2:11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which
cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,

The version of the Bible “The Message” express the last text as follow:
Hebrews 2:11 Since the One who saves and those who are saved have a common origin, Jesus
doesn't hesitate to treat them as family,

Clarification: the Father is the only true God in the sense that He is the only One that has no beginning and
the only Being that doesn’t proceed from anyone. The Father is the only Being that has life and immortality
in Himself; no one gave him life or immortality. The Son of God is also immortal, but He was given
immortality or life in Himself when he was born of the Father, according to John 5:26.

WHO WAS THE GOD OF THE OLD TESTAMENT?

WHO WAS THE ONLY DIVINE BEING WHO REVEALED HIMSELF TO ISRAEL?

Deuteronomy 4:35 Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is
none else beside him.

John 5:45-47 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you --- Moses, in
whom you trust. For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.
But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?

John 1:18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father,
He has declared Him.

John 6:46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father.

1º John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his
love is perfected in us.

John 5:37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither
heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

Isaiah 33:22 For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he
will save us.

Deuteronomy 4:35,39 Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God;
there is none else beside him.
Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above,
and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.

Isaiah 45:11,12,15,18 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things
to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. I have made the
earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I
commanded.
Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.
For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and
made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the
LORD; and there is none else.

John 1:3,10,14 All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the
only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Colossians 1:16-18 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth,
visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things
were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is
the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all
things he might have the preeminence.

Acts 3:15 [ESV] and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are
witnesses.

Hebrews 1:8-10 But of the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of
uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore
God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions."And, "You, Lord, laid
the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands;”

GOD IS ONE: DIFFERENT CONNOTATIONS ACCORDING TO TIME AND CONTEXT

‫ֶא ַחד‬
'echâ̂d ekh-awd'
A numeral from H258; properly united, that is, one; or (as an ordinal) first: - a, alike, alone, altogether,
and, any (-thing), apiece, a certain [dai-] ly, each (one), + eleven, every, few, first, + highway, a man, once,
one, only, other, some, together.

εἷςς
heis
hice (Including the neuter [etc.] ἔν hen); a primary numeral; one: - a (-n, -ny, certain), + abundantly, man,
one (another), only, other, some. See also G1527, G3367, G3391, G3762.

'echâ̂d (in Hebrew - Aramaic) = heis (in Greek) = One

→ “GOD IS ONE'' APPLIED TO THE SON OF GOD

Deuteronomy 6:4,5 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one ('echâ̂d) LORD:
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Mark 12:28-32 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that
he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one
(heis) Lord:
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and
with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other
commandment greater than these.
And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one (heis) God;
and there is none other but he:

→ “GOD IS ONE'' APPLIED ONLY TO THE FATHER

Ephesians 4:6 One (heis) God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

1º Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one (heis) God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we
in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

→ “GOD IS ONE'' AS APPLIED TO THE TRUE DEITY: THE FATHER AND SON

Zechariah 14:9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one ('echâ̂d)
LORD, and his name one.

John 10:30 I and my Father are one (heis).

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one (jeis) God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and
tremble.

Luke 18:18,19 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one (heis), that is, God.

1º Timothy 2:5 For there is one (heis) God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ
Jesus;

Galatians 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one (heis).

7
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
Romans 3:29,30 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
Seeing it is one (heis) God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through
faith.

Clarification: "God is one'', must be understood in the context in which it is found, and has three
applications:
- When it refers to Israel before the incarnation of the Son of God, the expression" God is one'' applies only to
the Son of God, who was the only divine being revealed to Israel.
- When the Son of God incarnated, He came to fulfill His primary mission to reveal His Father, extending the
concept of "God is one'' to the unity of Father and Son (true Deity). Also, when a prophecy speaks about the
future mentioning the Deity, it is applied to the Father and the Son.
- When it’s declared that there is only one Divine Being from whom comes all, a single divine being who is
the source of everything and the only One who had no beginning, then the Greek word "heis'' applies only
to the Father.

HOW MANY DIVINE BEINGS OR GODS EXIST?

Proverbs 30:4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists?
who hath bound the waters in a garment? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his
name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?”

Zechariah 6:12,13 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the
man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple
of the LORD: Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule
upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between
them both.
John 8::16,17 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that
sent me. It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

John 10: 30 I and my Father are one.

1º John 1::1-3 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes,
which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested,
and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the
Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye
also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son
Jesus Christ.
2º John 1:9 whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that
abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
Ephesians 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an
idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Revelation 7:10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the
throne, and unto the Lamb.
Revelation 14:6,7 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to
preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7
Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and
worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Clarification: The first message of the three angels consist of fearing and giving glory to God the Father,
and in worshiping the Son of God who is the Creator of all things. There are clearly two divine beings (2
Gods) in the message that will be given to the whole world, in which there is not a trinity.

THE HOLY SPIRIT IS CHRIST HIMSELF IN HIS OWN SPIRITUAL FORM

1º Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ
Jesus;

Galatians 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

Romans 8:26,34 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for
as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right
hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

Hebrews 7:22,25 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. Wherefore he is able also to
save them to the uttermosts that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for
them.

John 14:16-18 [NKJV] And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may
abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him
nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you
orphans; I will come to you.

G3875 παράκλητος paraklē̄tos

An intercessor, consoler: - advocate, comforter.

Clarification: The Greek word for Comforter is “Paraklētos”, which also means advocate (lawyer), as it
appears in 1º John 2:1 which identifies Jesus as the “Paraklētos” (advocate or comforter).

2º Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exodus 23:20-21 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee
into the place which I have prepared.
Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my
name is in him.

Isaiah 63:10-14 [MKJV] But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; So He turned Himself against
them as an enemy, And He fought against them.
Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people, saying: Where is He who brought them up out
of the sea with the shepherd of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit within them, Who led
them by the right hand of Moses, With His glorious arm, Dividing the water before them To make for
Himself an everlasting name, Who led them through the deep, as a horse in the wilderness, That they might
not stumble? As a beast goes down into the valley, and the Spirit of the LORD causes him to rest, so
You lead Your people, To make Yourself a glorious name.

1º Corinthians 10:4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that
followed them, and that Rock was Christ.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life.

John 1:1-4, 10 [MKJV] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was
life; and the life was the light of men.
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

Clarification: Clearly below Christ is identified as our Creator and as the Spirit of God.

1º Corinthians 15:44-45 [ESV] It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural
body, and there is a spiritual body.
And so it is written, "The first man Adam became a living being". The last Adam became a life-giving
spirit.

1º Peter 1:10-11 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the
grace that would come to you, searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in
them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would
follow.

Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy
fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of
Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered
himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Romans 8:9-10 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now
if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Mark 16:19,20 So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and
sat down at the right hand of God.
And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed
the message by accompanying signs.]]

Clarification: As we read in the KJV the following verses, we notice that the one who is guiding the disciples
is the Holy Spirit.
Acts 16:6-7 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by
the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia,
but the Spirit did not permit them.
But if we look at other versions of the Bible to compare to which Spirit it refers in Acts 16:7, we see that this
Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus:
Douay-Rheims Bible [DRB] And when they were come into Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia: and
the Spirit of Jesus suffered them not.
English Standard Version [ESV] And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia,
but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.
God’s Word [GW] They went to the province of Mysia and tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus
wouldn't allow this.
New American Standard Bible [NASB] and after they came to Mysia, they were trying to go into Bithynia,
and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them;
New English Translation [NET] When they came to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the
Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to do this,
Contemporary English version [1999] After they arrived in Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the
Spirit of Jesus would not let them.

Galatians 4:6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts,
crying out, “Abba, Father!”

Philippians 1:19 for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will
turn out for my deliverance,

1º Corinthians 2:11-16 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in
him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know
the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man’s
wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor
can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he

10
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
himself is rightly judged by no one. For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct
Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Matthew 11:27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except
the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to
reveal Him.

Clarification: The only being that knows God the Father is Christ, and only He can reveal the fullness of His
Father. There is no one between the Father and the Son.

Revelation 2:18,29 And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things says the Son of God,
who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass, says: He who has an ear, let him hear
what the Spirit says to the churches.

Comparing Luke 12:11,12 and Luke 21:12-15 in the first verses it is clear that when we are persecuted, the
Holy Spirit will teach us what we should say; and in the last verses, Christ himself tells us that
He will give us words and wisdom. Thus, the Holy Spirit is no one else but Christ Himself.

WHO IS THAT SPIRIT IMPARTING SPIRITUAL GIFTS TO MAN?

1º Corinthians 12:7-11 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one
is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the
same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to
another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different
kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

Ephesians 4:7-13 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.
Therefore He says: When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.
(Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the
earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He
might fill all things.)
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors
and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of
Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a
perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

Clarification: The Holy Spirit in 1º Corinthians 12:7-11 is the one spreading all the gifts, He is the same and
only Spirit who does it. However, having evaluated what Paul said in Ephesians, we see that Christ who had
descended to the earth and later to the tomb, is the same that has ascended to heaven. In addition, Paul
says that He ascended to fill everything, and we understand that He does it with his own omnipresent
Spirit. This way Christ imparts gifts to men. To be precise, the Holy Spirit that distributes the gifts is Christ
Himself.

THE UNPARDONABLE SIN OR THE SIN AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT

Matthew 12:31,32 Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy
against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.
Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks
against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

Mark 3:28,29 Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies
they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is
subject to eternal condemnation.

Luke 12:10 And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but to
him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.

11
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
Clarification: Exploring the above verses, we see that the forgiven sin is the sin against the Son of man,
namely, it is a sin against Christ’s humanity. This is clear because having they the option to use other
names to refer to Christ, their choose the name “Son of Man”, precisely to refer to His carnal nature or
humanity.
The unpardonable sin is to reject the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. This way we are denying the only
Divine being that can transform us and lead us to the Father. Nevertheless, we have seen that Christ is the
one who does all this work since He is the only mediator and only way to God the Father. Separating
ourselves from the only stairs to heaven, we will lose all contact with the True God (the Father) and as a
result we remove all hope and pardon.

CONTROVERSIAL AND MISUNDERSTOOD VERSES

The verse of Isaiah 48:16 according to King James Version says:

Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it
was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.

A better translation of the verse from Isaiah 48:16 is:

(New International Version) Come near me and listen to this: From the first announcement I have not
spoken in secret; at the time it happens, I am there. Now the Sovereign LORD has sent me, with his
Spirit.

(New Century Version) Come to me and listen to this. From the beginning I have spoken openly. From the
time it began, I was there." Now, the Lord God has sent me with his Spirit.

(World English Bible) "Come near to me and hear this: "From the beginning I have not spoken in secret;
from the time that it was, there am I." Now the Lord Yahweh has sent me, with his Spirit.

Clarification: The meaning of the text neither is a Trinity, nor refers to it. In the first application which is
literal, the Son of God is speaking and then Cyrus, since Christ sent Cyrus with His Spirit. The servant or
anointed whom Jehovah sends has to fulfill His will in Babylon, and conquer the Chaldeans according to
Isaiah 48:14. Christ in His first coming did not come to the Chaldeans, but to the people of Israel. The
person who is sent by God to free His people from Babylon, is Cyrus king of Persia; the scriptures point it
out by name in Isaiah 44:28, Isaiah 45:1 and 2º Chronicles 36:22, 23.
In the second application of Isaiah 48:16, which is symbolic, the anointed or servant who is sent is Christ
the Son of God. He comes to liberate His people from the spiritual Babylon, according to Revelation 18:1-5;
there Christ comes with the Spirit and glory of His Father, according to Matthew 16:27, Mark 8:38 and
Luke 9:26. In the same manner that the literal Babylon was conquered by 2 kings of the East (the Persian
king Cyrus and Darius the Mede), the spiritual Babylon will be defeated by the appearance of the 2 kings of
the east: the Father and the Son, according to Revelation 16:12.

In addition, the following verses are badly understood, more specifically the verse 17:
Revelation 22:16,17 I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root
and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.
And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts
come. Whoever desires let him take the water of life freely.

Clarification: The verse is not declaring that the Holy Spirit says to Jesus come or come back, as the
Trinitarians interpret. What the text is telling us is that the Holy Spirit which is the only husband (Christ
himself) with His bride, which are the faithful children who are the obedient to the commandments, (the
true Church), are making in invitation to every sincere soul who has not yet jointed the body of Christ (His
bride). This call to drink of the water of life, consequently make themselves as an integral part of the body
of Christ.

WHY WE SHALL BE PERSECUTED?

Isaiah 66:5 Hear the word of the LORD, You who tremble at His word: “Your brethren who hated you, Who
cast you out for My name’s sake, said, ‘Let the LORD be glorified, That we may see your joy.’ But they
shall be ashamed.

Matthew 10:22 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be
saved.

Matthew 24:9 Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations
for My name’s sake.

Mark 13:13 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end shall be
saved.

Luke 21:12 But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up
to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake.

Luke 21:17 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake.

John 15:21 But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him
who sent Me.

QUOTES OF ELLEN WHITE ON THE APOSTASY OMEGA AND THE SON OF GOD

1SM 42 “The testimonies themselves will be the key that will explain the messages given, as
scripture is explained by scripture.”

1SM 200 In the book Living Temple there is presented the alpha of deadly heresies. The omega will
follow, and will be received by those who are not willing to heed the warning God has given.

1SM 201,202 I have been instructed by the heavenly messenger that some of the reasoning in the
book Living Temple is unsound and that this reasoning would lead astray the minds of those who are
not thoroughly established on the foundation principles of present truth. It introduces that which is
nought but speculation in regard to the personality of God and where His presence is. No one
on this earth has a right to speculate on this question. The more fanciful theories are discussed, the less
men will know of God and of the truth that sanctifies the soul.

1SM 203 Living Temple contains the alpha of these theories. I knew that the omega would
follow in a little while; and I trembled for our people. I knew that I must warn our brethren and sisters
not to enter into controversy over the presence and personality of God.
The statements made in Living Temple in regard to this point are incorrect. The scripture used to
substantiate the doctrine set forth there, is scripture misapplied.

1SM 203.204 Few can discern the result of entertaining the sophistries advocated by some at this time.
But the Lord has lifted the curtain, and has shown me the result that would follow. The spiritualistic
theories regarding the personality of God, followed to their logical conclusion, sweep away
the whole Christian economy. They estimate as nothing the light that Christ came from heaven to give
John to give to His people. They teach that the scenes just before us are not of sufficient importance to be
given special attention. They make of no effect the truth of heavenly origin, and rob the people
of God of their past experience, giving them instead a false science.
In a vision of the night I was shown distinctly that these sentiments have been looked upon by some as the
grand truths that are to be brought in and made prominent at the present time. I was shown a platform,
braced by solid timbers--the truths of the Word of God. Some one high in responsibility in the
medical work was directing this man and that man to loosen the timbers supporting this platform.
Then I heard a voice saying, "Where are the watchmen that ought to be standing on the walls of Zion? Are
they asleep? This foundation was built by the Master Worker, and will stand storm and
tempest. Will they permit this man to present doctrines that deny the past experience of the people of
God? The time has come to take decided action.

8 TESTIMONIES 296, 297 (1904) "Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the
old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein." Jeremiah 6:16.
Let none seek to tear away the foundations of our faith--the foundations that were laid at the
beginning of our work by prayerful study of the word and by revelation. Upon these
foundations we have been building for the last fifty years. Men may suppose that they have found
a new way and that they can lay a stronger foundation than that which has been laid. But this is a great
deception. Other foundation can no man lay than that which has been laid… Did not the first
disciples have to meet the sayings of men? Did they not have to listen to false theories, and then, having
done all, to stand firm, saying: "Other foundation can no man lay than that is laid"? 1 Cor. 3:11.
So we are to hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end. Words of power have been
sent by God and by Christ to this people, bringing them out from the world, point by point,
into the clear light of present truth. With lips touched with holy fire, God's servants have proclaimed
the message. The divine utterance has set its seal to the genuineness of the truth proclaimed.

14
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
YE SHALL RECIVE POWER 234 Let not any man enter upon the work of tearing down the
foundations of the truth that have made us what we are. God has led His people forward step by
step though there were pitfalls of error on every side. Under the wonderful guidance of a plain, "Thus saith
the Lord," a truth has been established that has stood the test of trial. When men arise and
attempt to draw away disciples after them, meet them with the truths that have been tried as by fire.
And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write: These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God,
and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful,
and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before
God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou
shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee
(Rev. 3:1-3). Those who seek to remove the old landmarks are not holding fast; they are not
remembering how they have received and heard. Those who try to bring in theories that would
remove the pillars of our faith concerning the sanctuary or concerning the personality of
God or of Christ are working as blind men. They are seeking to bring in uncertainties and to set the
people of God adrift without an anchor.

1 MANUSCRIPT, February 24, 1915 When waking out of sleep, she called the nurse to her side and
said, I want to tell you. I hate sin. (Repeated three times). I am charged to tell our people, that the devil
has device after device, and he carries them out in ways that they do not expect. Satan’s
agencies will invent ways to make sinners out of saints.
I tell you now, that when I am laid to rest, great changes will take place. I do not know when I shall
be taken; and I desire to warn all against the devices of the devil. I want the people to know that I
warned them fully before my death. I do not know especially what changes will take place; but they
should watch every conceivable sin that Satan will try to immortalize.

LAST DAYS EVENTS 59 The Lord Jesus will always have a chosen people to serve Him. When
the Jewish people rejected Christ, the Prince of life, He took from them the kingdom of God and gave it
unto the Gentiles. God will continue to work on this principle with every branch of His work.
When a church proves unfaithful to the word of the Lord, whatever their position may be,
however high and sacred their calling, the Lord can no longer work with them. Others are then
chosen to bear important responsibilities.

LAST DAYS EVENTS 48 The church is in the Laodicean state. The presence of God is not in her
midst. -1NL 99 (1898)

REVIEW & HERALD, December 23 of 1890 If you seek the Lord with all your heart, he will be found
of you. The end is near! We have not a moment to lose! Light is to shine forth from God's people in
clear, distinct rays, bringing Jesus before the churches and before the world. Our work is not to
be restricted to those who already know the truth; our field is the world. The instrumentalities to be used
are those souls who gladly receive the light of truth which God communicates to them. These are God's
agencies for communicating the knowledge of truth to the world. If through the grace of Christ his people
will become new bottles, he will fill them with the new wine. God will give additional light, and old
truths will be recovered, and replaced in the frame-work of truth; and wherever the laborers go,
they will triumph. As Christ's ambassadors, they are to search the Scriptures, to seek for the
truths that have been hidden beneath the rubbish of error. And every ray of light received is
to be communicated to others. One interest will prevail, one subject will swallow up every
other,--Christ our righteousness.
"This is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom
thou hast sent." "Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty
man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: but let him that glorieth glory in this,
that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise loving-kindness,
judgment, and righteousness in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord."

MARANATHA 192 Before the last developments of the work of apostasy there will be a confusion of
faith. There will not be clear and definite ideas concerning the mystery of God. One truth after
another will be corrupted.

15
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
PP 686 Modern spiritualism, resting upon the same foundation, is but a revival in a new form of the
witchcraft and demon worship that God condemned and prohibited of old. It is foretold in the Scriptures,
which declare that "in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and
doctrines of devils." 1 Timothy 4:1. Paul, in his second letter to the Thessalonians, points to the special
working of Satan in spiritualism as an event to take place immediately before the second
advent of Christ. Speaking of Christ's second coming, he declares that it is "after the working of Satan
with all power and signs and lying wonders." 2 Thessalonians 2:9. And Peter, describing the dangers to
which the church was to be exposed in the last days, says that as there were false prophets who led
Israel into sin, so there will be false teachers, "who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even
denying the Lord that bought them. . . . And many shall follow their pernicious ways." 2 Peter 2:1, 2. Here
the apostle has pointed out one of the marked characteristics of spiritualist teachers. They
refuse to acknowledge Christ as the Son of God. Concerning such teachers the beloved John
declares: "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father
and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father." 1 John 2:22, 23. Spiritualism, by
denying Christ, denies both the Father and the Son, and the Bible pronounces it the manifestation of
antichrist.

3SM 398 There will be, even among us, hirelings and wolves in sheep's clothing who will persuade [some
of] the flock of God to sacrifice unto other gods before the Lord. . . . Youth who are not
established, rooted and grounded in the truth, will be corrupted and drawn away by the blind leaders of the
blind; and the ungodly, the despisers that wonder and perish, who despise the sovereignty of the
Ancient of Days, and place on the throne a false god, a being of their own defining, a being
altogether such an one as themselves--these agents will be in Satan's hands to corrupt the faith of the
unwary.

PK 177 The present age is one of idolatry, as verily as was that in which Elijah lived. No
outward shrine may be visible; there may be no image for the eye to rest upon; yet thousands are following
after the gods of this world--after riches, fame, pleasure, and the pleasing fables that permit man to follow
the inclinations of the unregenerate heart. Multitude have a wrong conception of God and His
attributes, and are as truly serving a false god as were the worshipers of Baal.

GC 583 In rejecting the truth, men reject its Author. In trampling upon the law of God, they deny the
authority of the Law-giver. It is as easy to make an idol of false doctrines and theories as to
fashion an idol of wood or stone. By misrepresenting the attributes of God, Satan leads men to
conceive of Him in a false character. With many, a philosophical idol is enthroned in the place of
Jehovah; while the living God, as He is revealed in His word, in Christ, and in the works of
creation, is worshiped by but few. Thousands deify nature while they deny the God of nature.
Though in a different form, idolatry exists in the Christian world today as verily as it existed
among ancient Israel in the days of Elijah. The god of many professedly wise men, of philosophers,
poets, politicians, journalists--the god of polished fashionable circles, of many colleges and universities,
even of some theological institutions--is little better than Baal, the sun-god of Phoenicia.

5 TESTIMONIES 173,174 Are we followers of God as dear children, or are we servants of the prince of
darkness? Are we worshipers of Jehovah [the living God], or of Baal [the idols]? No outward
shrines may be visible, there may be no image for the eye to rest upon, yet we may be
practicing idolatry. It is as easy to make an idol of cherished ideas or objects as to fashion
gods of wood or stone. Thousands have a false conception of God and His attributes. They are as verily
serving a false god as were the servants of Baal. Are we worshiping the true God as He is revealed
in His word, in Christ, in nature, or are we adoring some philosophical idol enshrined in His
place? God is a God of truth.

REVIEW & HERALD; July 9 1895 The Eternal Father, the unchangeable one, gave his only
begotten Son, tore from his bosom Him who was made in the express image of his person,
and sent him down to earth to reveal how greatly he loved mankind.

16
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
SIGNS OF THE TIME May 30 1895 A complete offering has been made; for "God so loved the world,
that he gave his only-begotten Son,"-- not a son by creation, as were the angels, nor a son by
adoption, as is the forgiven sinner, but a Son begotten in the express image of the Father's
person, and in all the brightness of his majesty and glory, one equal with God in authority, dignity, and
divine perfection. In him dwelt all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

2 TESTIMONIES 206,207 and God’s Amazing Grace 169 The divine Son of God was fainting,
dying. The Father sent a messenger from His presence to strengthen the divine Sufferer and brace Him to
tread His bloodstained path. Could mortals have viewed the amazement and the sorrow of the angelic host
as they watched in silent grief the Father separating His beams of light, love, and glory from the beloved
Son of His bosom, they would better understand how offensive sin is in His sight.

LIFT HIM UP 16 The Lord Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, existed from eternity, a distinct
person, yet one with the Father. He was the surpassing glory of heaven. He was the commander of the
heavenly intelligences, and the adoring homage of the angels was received by Him as His right. This was no
robbery of God. "The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way," He declares, "before his
works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When
there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.
Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: while as yet he had not made
the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was
there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depths" (Proverbs 8:22-27).
There are light and glory in the truth that Christ was one with the Father before the foundation of
the world was laid. This is the light shining in a dark place, making it resplendent with divine, original
glory. This truth, infinitely mysterious in itself, explains other mysterious and otherwise unexplainable
truths, while it is enshrined in light, unapproachable and incomprehensible…

14 MANUSCRIPT RELEASES 83 Christ is the Son of God in deed and in truth and in love, and
is the representative of the Father as well as the representative of the human race.

PATRIARCHS & PROPHETS 34 The Sovereign of the universe was not alone in His work of
beneficence. He had an associate--a co-worker who could appreciate His purposes, and could share
His joy in giving happiness to created beings. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God." John 1:1, 2. Christ, the Word, the only
begotten of God, was one with the eternal Father--one in nature, in character, in purpose--the
only being that could enter into all the counsels and purposes of God. "His name shall be called
Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6. His
"goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." Micah 5:2. And the Son of God declares
concerning Himself: "The Lord possessed Me in the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I was
set up from everlasting. . . . When He appointed the foundations of the earth: then I was by Him, as one
brought up with Him: and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him." Prov. 8:22-30.
The Father wrought by His Son in the creation of all heavenly beings. "By Him were all things
created, . . . whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by
Him, and for Him." Colossians 1:16. Angels are God's ministers, radiant with the light ever flowing from His
presence and speeding on rapid wing to execute His will. But the Son, the anointed of God, the
"express image of His person," "the brightness of His glory," "upholding all things by the word of His
power," holds supremacy over them all.”

THE GREAT CONTROVERSY 493 Christ the Word, the Only Begotten of God, was one with the
eternal Father,-- one in nature, in character, and in purpose,--the only being in all the universe that
could enter into all the counsels and purposes of God. By Christ the Father wrought in the creation
of all heavenly beings.

THAT I MAY KNOW HIM 363 The only Being who was one with God lived the law in
humanity, descended to the lowly life of a common laborer, and toiled at the carpenter's bench with His
earthly parent. He lived the life which He requires of all who claim to be His children. Thus was cut off the
powerful argument of Satan that God required of humanity a self-denial and subjection that He would not
Himself render…

The Youth’s Instructor; July 7, 1898 “The Father and the Son alone are to be exalted”

THE STORY OF REDEMPTION 31 The angels united with Adam and Eve in holy strains of harmonious
music, and as their songs pealed forth from blissful Eden, Satan heard the sound of their strains of
joyful adoration to the Father and Son.

THE YOUTH’S INSTRUCTOR; December 16, 1897 From eternity there was a complete unity
between the Father and the Son. They were two, yet little short of being identical; two in
individuality, yet one in spirit, and heart, and character.
When our Redeemer consented to take the cup of suffering, in order to save sinners, his capacity for
suffering was the only limitation to his suffering. But his humiliation as a man did not in the slightest
degree take from his honored identity with the Father. While walking the earth in the form of a servant, he
could still affirm, "I and my Father are one."

9 TESTIMONIES 68.2-69.3 The Father and the Son each have a personality. Christ declared: "I
and My Father are one." Yet it was the Son of God who came to the world in human form. Laying
aside His royal robe and kingly crown, He clothed His divinity with humanity, that humanity through His
infinite sacrifice might become partakers of the divine nature and escape the corruption that is in the world
through lust. {9T 68.2}

THE UPWARD LOOK 153 Christ is one with the Father, but God and Christ are two distinct
Personages. Read the prayer of Christ in the seventeenth chapter of John, and you will find this point
clearly brought out. How earnestly the Saviour prayed that His disciples might be one with Him as
He was one with the Father. But the unity that is to exist between Christ and His followers
does not destroy the personality of either. They are to be one with Him as He is one with the Father.

REFLECTING CHRIST 40 Jesus knew the needs of the world better than they themselves knew. He did
not come as an angel, clothed with the panoply of heaven, but as a man. Yet combined with His humility
was an inherent power and grandeur that awed men while they loved Him. Although possessing such
loveliness, such an unassuming appearance, He moved among them with the dignity and power of a
heaven-born king. The people were amazed, confounded. They tried to reason the matter out; but,
unwilling to renounce their own ideas, they yielded to doubts, clinging to the old expectation of a Saviour to
come in earthly grandeur. -5T. vol. pp. 252, 253.

THE DESIRE OF AGES 51 The dedication of the first-born had its origin in the earliest times. God had
promised to give the First-born of heaven to save the sinner. This gift was to be acknowledged in
every household by the consecration of the first-born son. He was to be devoted to the priesthood, as a
representative of Christ among men.

THIS DAY WITH GOD 128 Angels were expelled from heaven because they would not work in harmony
with God. They fell from their high estate because they wanted to be exalted. They had come to exalt
themselves, and they forgot that their beauty of person and of character came from the Lord Jesus. This
fact the [fallen] angels would obscure, that Christ was the only begotten Son of God, and they
came to consider that they were not to consult Christ.

THE DESIRES OF AGES 21 I do nothing of Myself," said Christ; "the living Father hath sent Me,
and I live by the Father." "I seek not Mine own glory," but the glory of Him that sent Me. John 8:28;
6:57; 8:50; 7:18. In these words is set forth the great principle which is the law of life for the universe. All
things Christ received from God, but He took to give.

3 SELECTED MESSAGE 128 The more we think about Christ's becoming a babe here on earth,
the more wonderful it appears. How can it be that the helpless babe in Bethlehem's manger is still
the divine Son of God? Though we cannot understand it, we can believe that He who made the worlds,
for our sakes became a helpless babe. Though higher than any of the angels, though as great as the
Father on the throne of heaven, He became one with us…-- The Youth's Instructor, Nov. 21, 1895.

THE UPWARD LOOK 246 Every day we are to become more like Jesus, learning the meekness and
lowliness of Him who, though the only begotten Son of God, came to this world as our
Redeemer, giving His life to pay the penalty of sin. Though hiding His divinity under the guise of
humanity, He was the Mighty Counselor, the Prince of Peace. His life was filled with sympathy and love,
goodness, kindness, and benevolence. He revealed the science of everlasting life--the science that we are to
carry into all our efforts.--Manuscript 83, Aug. 20, 1904, "Revealing Christ to the World."

8 TESTIMONIES 156 In the Bible every duty is made plain. Every lesson given is comprehensible.
Every lesson reveals to us the Father and the Son. The word is able to make all wise unto salvation.
In the word the science of salvation is plainly revealed. Search the Scriptures, for they are the voice
of God speaking to the soul.

8 TESTIMONIES 268 being made so much better than the angels, as He hath by inheritance
obtained a more excellent name than they. For unto which of the angels said He at any time, Thou
art My Son, this day have I begotten Thee? And again, I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a
Son?" Hebrews 1:1-5.
God is the Father of Christ; Christ is the Son of God. To Christ has been given an exalted
position. He has been made equal with the Father." All God’s councils (assemblies) are open to His
Son.

MESSAGES TO YOUNG PEOPLE [MYP] 254.1 Every world throughout immensity engages
the care and support of the Father and the Son; and this care is constantly exercised for fallen
humanity.

THIS DAY WITH GOD [TDG] 369.1 Read the prayer that Christ offered for His people just before His
trial and crucifixion. Christ in His human nature suffered disappointment and trials. When I read in the
Bible of how many refused to believe that Christ was the Son of God, sadness fills my heart.
We read that even His own brethren refused to believe in Him.

IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE A CORRECT CONCEPT OR KNOWLEDGE OF THE GODHEAD?

THAT I MAY KNOW HIM 205 The great gift of salvation has been placed within our reach at
an infinite cost to the Father and the Son. To neglect salvation is to neglect the knowledge of
the Father and of the Son whom God hath sent. -Review and Herald; 10-3-1891

THE MINISTRY OF HEALING 409 In order to be co-workers with God, in order to become like Him
and to reveal His character, we must know Him aright. We must know Him as He reveals Himself.
A knowledge of God is the foundation of all true education and of all true service. It is the only
real safeguard against temptation. It is this alone that can make us like God in character.
This is the knowledge needed by all who are working for the uplifting of their fellow men.
Transformation of character, purity of life, efficiency in service, adherence to correct
principles, all depend upon a right knowledge of God. This knowledge is the essential preparation
both for this life and for the life to come.” …And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding
Proverbs 9:10.
Through a knowledge of Him are given unto us "all things that pertain unto life and godliness." 2 Peter 1:3.
"This is life eternal," said Jesus, "that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus
Christ, whom Thou hast sent." John 17:3. "Thus says the LORD: “ Let not the wise man glory in his
wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; 24 But let
him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the LORD,
exercising loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the
LORD" Jeremiah 9:23, 24.
We need to study the revelations that God Himself gave.

EDUCATION 17 The Holy Scriptures are the perfect standard of truth, and as such should be
given the highest place in education. To obtain an education worthy of the name, we must receive a
knowledge of God, the Creator, and of Christ, the Redeemer, as they are revealed in the sacred
word.

CHILD GUIDANCE 293.3 To learn science through human interpretation alone is to obtain a false
education, but to learn of God and Christ is to learn the science of heaven. The confusion in
education has come because the wisdom and knowledge of God have not been exalted.

Clarification of 1º John 5:7: this verse says: For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the
Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
Volume 7A of the SDA Bible commentary on page 693 explains the verse quoted as follows: “Textual
evidence attests (cf. p.10) the omission of the passage in heaven, the father the Word, and the Holy Spirit:
and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth.” The resultant reading of vs. 7, 8 is
as follows: “For there are three that bear record, the spirit and the water and the blood: and these three
agree in one. The passage as given in the KJV is not in any Greek manuscript before the XV and XVI. The
words referred penetrated the Bibles of the sixteenth century, including the KJV, through the NT Greek text
of Erasmus (see t. V, p. 143). Erasmus, it is said, promised to include the words in question in the Greek
New Testament if he showed a single Greek manuscript where they were. Then it was presented to him a
manuscript from a library in Dublin [known as 34] with the words mentioned, thus he included them in his
text. . It is now believed that this passage was introduced in the latest editions of the Vulgate by a copyist's
error which included a marginal exegetical commentary on the text of the Bible he was copying. The words
or contested text have been used extensively to support the doctrine of the Trinity, but because the evidence
against its authenticity is overwhelming, this support has no value, and therefore should not be used.
Although such words are in the Vulgate, was frankly admitted in a Catholic work, "now widely held that this
passage, called Comma Johanneum, [subsection or smaller part of the period of John] is a gloss that was
introduced from long ago in the ancient text of the Latin Vulgate, but came to the Greek text only in the XV
and XVI "(A Catholic Commentary on Holy Scripture, Thomas Nelson and Sons, 1951, p. 1186).

Clarification on 2º Corinthians 13:14 => here it does not refer to 3 people, but of 3 attributes of Christ.
Grace is the gift of Christ according to Ephesians 4:7.
The love of God is Christ, according to John 3:16.
The communion we have with the Holy Spirit which Christ, as 2º Corinthians 3:17.

CHRIST IS THE SECOND IN AUTHORITY IN HEAVEN, BUT HE HAS THE SAME
LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY OVER US, AS OF THE FATHER

LIFT HIM UP 24 The Son of God was next in authority to the great Lawgiver. He knew that His
life alone could be sufficient to ransom fallen man. He was of as much more value than man as His noble,
spotless character, and exalted office as commander of all the heavenly host were above the work of man.
He was in the express image of His Father, not in features alone, but in perfection of character.

“NOTEBOOK LEAFLETS FROM THE ELMSHAVEN LIBRARY Vol. 1 page 114,115 – Letter 48,
1902” Christ is our Example. He was next to God in the heavenly courts. But He came to this earth
to live among men.

REVIEW & HERALD, December 17, 1872 The Son of God was next in authority to the great
Lawgiver.

PATRIARCHS AND PROPHETS Yet the Son of God was exalted above him, as one in power and
authority with the Father. He shared the Father's counsels, while Lucifer did not thus enter into the
purposes of God.

THE GREAT CONTROVERSY 495 Yet the Son of God was the acknowledged Sovereign of
heaven, one in power and authority with the Father. In all the councils of God, Christ was a
participant, while Lucifer was not permitted thus to enter into the divine purposes. "Why," questioned this
mighty angel, "should Christ have the supremacy? Why is He thus honored above Lucifer?"

PATRIARCHS AND PROPHETS 38 They were dissatisfied with His purpose in exalting Christ. These
stood ready to second Lucifer's demand for equal authority with the Son of God. But angels who
were loyal and true maintained the wisdom and justice of the divine decree and endeavored to reconcile
this disaffected being to the will of God. Christ was the Son of God; He had been one with Him before
the angels were called into existence.

THAT I MAY KNOW HIM 38 Christ came to the world to reveal the character of the Father and to
redeem the fallen race. The world's Redeemer was equal with God. His authority was as the
authority of God. He declared that He had no existence separate from the Father. The authority by
which He spoke and wrought miracles was expressly His own, yet He assures us that He and the
Father are one. . . .
Jesus had imparted a knowledge of God to patriarchs, prophets, and apostles.
As legislator, Jesus exercised the authority of God; His commands and decisions were supported by
the sovereignty of the eternal throne. The glory of the Father was revealed in the Son; Christ made manifest
the character of the Father. He was so perfectly connected with God, so completely embraced in His
encircling light, that he who had seen the Son had seen the Father. His voice was as the voice of God… He
says, "I am in the Father, and the Father in me." "No man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither
knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him." "He that hath
seen me hath seen the Father" (Matthew 11:27; John 14:11; 14:9) (R & H, 7-1-1890).

Clarification: The Son of God and his Father have the same authority with respect to the created beings. But
among them, there is an eternal and unshakable hierarchy. The Father will continue to b e the Father and
the Son will be the Son forever.

QUOTES FROM ELLEN WHITE ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

WHO WAS THE THIRD POWER IN HEAVEN BEFORE SIN?

Patriarchs and Prophets 35 Sin originated with him who, next to Christ, had been most honored
of God and was highest in power and glory among the inhabitants of heaven. Lucifer, "son of
the morning," was first of the covering cherubs, holy and undefiled.

1SM 341.3 Satan's position in heaven had been next to the Son of God. He was first among
the angels.

Early Writings 145 Satan was once an honored angel in heaven, next to Christ.

THE STORY OF REDEMPTION 13 Lucifer in heaven, before his rebellion, was a high and
exalted angel, next in honor to God's dear Son. His countenance, like those of the other angels, was
mild and expressive of happiness. His forehead was high and broad, showing a powerful intellect. His form
was perfect; his bearing noble and majestic. A special light beamed in his countenance and shone around
him brighter and more beautiful than around the other angels; yet Christ, God's dear Son, had the
pre-eminence over all the angelic host. He was one with the Father before the angels were
created. Lucifer was envious of Christ, and gradually assumed command which devolved on
Christ alone.

THE STORY OF REDEMPTION 30 They told Adam and Eve that the most exalted angel, next in
order to Christ, refused obedience to the law of God which He had ordained to govern heavenly
beings; that this rebellion had caused war in heaven, which resulted in the rebellious being expelled
therefrom, and every angel was driven out of heaven who had united with him in questioning the authority
of the great Jehovah; and that this fallen foe was now an enemy to all that concerned the interest
of God and His dear Son.

REVIEW & HERALD; February 24, 1874 Satan, the chief of the fallen angels, once had an exalted
position in Heaven. He was next in honor to Christ.

SIGNS OF THE TIMES; August 27 1902 “By his own course of action Satan has forged a chain by
which he will be bound. The inhabitants of the heavenly universe will bear witness to God's justice in his
destruction. Heaven itself has seen what heaven would be, if he were allowed to remain in it. All the
unfallen beings are now united in regarding God's law as changeless. They support the government of Him,
who, to redeem the transgressor, spared not His own Son. His law has been proved faultless. His
government is forever secure. The Father, the Son, and Lucifer have been revealed in their true
relation to one another. God has given unmistakable evidence of His justice and His love.”

THE FAITH I LIVE BY 66 Evil originated with Lucifer, who rebelled against the government of God.
Before his fall he was a covering cherub, distinguished by his excellence. God made him good
and beautiful, as near as possible like Himself.

WHO OCCUPIED SATAN'S PLACE THAT WAS LEFT VACANT AFTER SIN ENTERED, IN OTHER
WORDS, THE THIRD PLACE IN HEAVEN?

DA 232 It was Gabriel, the angel next in rank to the Son of God, who came with the divine message
to Daniel.

WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?

14 MANUSCRIPT RELESES 84 The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, which is sent to all men to
give them sufficiency, that through His grace we might be complete in Him.

22
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
CHRIST TRIUMPHANT 365 The work of the Holy Spirit is immeasurably great. It is from this source
that power and efficiency come to the worker for God; and the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, as the
personal presence of Christ to the soul.

EDUCATION 134 The invisible things of Him since the creation of the world are . . . perceived through
the things that are made, even His everlasting power and divinity." Romans 1:20, R.V. But their testimony
can be understood only through the aid of the divine Teacher. "What man knoweth the things of a man,
save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit
of God." 1º Corinthians 2:11 When He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all
truth." John 16:13. Only by the aid of that Spirit who in the beginning "was brooding upon the
face of the waters;" of that Word by whom "all things were made;" of that "true Light, which
lighteth every man that cometh into the world," can the testimony of science be rightly interpreted. Only
by their guidance can its deepest truths be discerned.

PATRIARCHS AND PROPHETS 366,367 It was Christ that spoke to His people through the
prophets. The apostle Peter, writing to the Christian church, says that the prophets "prophesied of the
grace that should come unto you: searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was
in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow." 1
Peter 1:10, 11. It is the voice of Christ that speaks to us through the Old Testament. "The
testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Revelation 19:10… Jesus was the light of His
people--the Light of the world--before He came to earth in the form of humanity. The first
gleam of light that pierced the gloom in which sin had wrapped the world, came from Christ.
And from Him has come every ray of heaven's brightness that has fallen upon the
inhabitants of the earth. In the plan of redemption Christ is the Alpha and the Omega--the
First and the Last.

PP 761 This angel was the angel of God's presence (Isaiah 63:9), the angel in whom was the name of the
great Jehovah (Exodus 23:20-23). the expression can refer to no other than the Son of God.
Again: Christ is called the word of God. John 1:1-3. He is so called because god gave his
revelations to man in all ages through Christ. It was his Spirit that inspired the prophets. 1
Peter 1:10, 11. He was revealed to them as the angel of Jehovah, the captain of the Lord's host, Michael the
archangel.

14 MANUSCRIPT RELEASES 23 Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place
personally; therefore it was altogether for their advantage that He should leave them, go to His father, and
send the Holy Spirit to be His successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is Himself divested of the
personality of humanity and independent thereof. He would represent Himself as present in all
places by His Holy Spirit, as the Omnipresent.

THE DESIRE OF AGES 669 The Holy Spirit is Christ's representative, but divested of the
personality of humanity, and independent thereof. Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be
in every place personally. Therefore it was for their interest that He should go to the Father, and send the
Spirit to be His successor on earth. No one could then have any advantage because of his location or his
personal contact with Christ. By the Spirit the Saviour would be accessible to all. In this sense He
would be nearer to them than if He had not ascended on high.

1SM 251 The Holy Spirit, which proceeds from the only-begotten Son of God, binds the
human agent, body, soul, and spirit, to the perfect, divine-human nature of Christ. This union
is represented by the union of the vine and the branches. Finite man is united to the manhood of Christ.
Through faith human nature is assimilated with Christ's nature. We are made one with God in Christ.

REFLECTING CHRIST 355 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in
me, and I in you." The very same sap and nourishment that nourishes the parent stock, nourishes the
branch abiding in the vine. Christ is represented by the vine that imparts the nourishment, the
vitality, the life, the spirit, the power, that the branch can bear fruit, and then when affliction and
disappointment come, you are to show altogether a different character of fruit than the world. There is the
evidence that you are connected with Jesus Christ, and that there is a power that sustains you in all
your afflictions and disappointments and trials; and this power and this grace sweetens every affliction.
[When] the cup of suffering may be placed to your lips, there is a Comforter and Helper.

23
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
THAT I MAY KNOW HIM 171 There is no comforter like Christ, so tender and so true. He is
touched with the feeling of our infirmities. His Spirit speaks to the heart.

DESIRE OF AGES 140,141 The message, "We have found Him, of whom Moses in the law, and
the prophets, did write," seemed to Nathanael a direct answer to his prayer. But Philip had yet a
trembling faith. He added doubtfully, "Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." Again prejudice arose in
Nathanael's heart. He exclaimed, "Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth?"Philip entered into no
controversy. He said, "Come and see. Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and saith of him, Behold an
Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!" In surprise Nathanael exclaimed, "Whence knowest Thou me? Jesus
answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee."
It was enough. The divine Spirit that had borne witness to Nathanael in his solitary prayer
under the fig tree now spoke to him in the words of Jesus. Though in doubt, and yielding
somewhat to prejudice, Nathanael had come to Christ with an honest desire for truth, and now his desire
was met. His faith went beyond that of the one who had brought him to Jesus. He answered and said,
"Rabbi, Thou art the Son of God; Thou art the King of Israel." If Nathanael had trusted to the rabbis
for guidance, he would never have found Jesus.
It was by seeing and judging for himself that he became a disciple. So in the case of many
today whom prejudice withholds from good. How different would be the result if they would "come
and see"!
While they trust to the guidance of human authority, none will come to a saving knowledge of the truth.
Like Nathanael, we need to study God's word for ourselves, and pray for the enlightenment of
the Holy Spirit. He who saw Nathanael under the fig tree will see us in the secret place of
prayer. Angels from the world of light are near to those who in humility seek for divine guidance.

TM 137 Every loyal child of God will seek to know the truth. John stated the truth so plainly that a
child may understand it, "If ye love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall
give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the
world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him." Do we choose to be numbered
with those who cannot discern the truth, who are so blinded by the deceptive power of the
enemy that they see not Him who is the express image of the Father's person?

THE DESIRE OF AGES 166 Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God
by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them." Hebrews 7:25. Though the ministration was
to be removed from the earthly to the heavenly temple; though the sanctuary and our great high priest
would be invisible to human sight, yet the disciples were to suffer no loss thereby. They would realize no
break in their communion, and no diminution of power because of the Saviour's absence. While Jesus
ministers in the sanctuary above, He is still by His Spirit the minister of the church on earth.
He is withdrawn from the eye of sense, but His parting promise is fulfilled, "Lo, I am with you
alway, even unto the end of the world." Matthew 28:20. While He delegates His power to inferior
ministers, His energizing presence is still with His church.

REFLECTING JESUS 285 And Jesus said He would give us the Comforter. What is the Comforter? It is
the Holy Spirit of God. What is the Holy Spirit? It is the representative of Jesus Christ, it is our
Advocate that stands by our side and places our petitions before the Father all fragrant with His merits.
There He accepts the petition of the humblest saint. He doesn't ask you how much money you have, or how
heavy you are loaded with property, but the very humblest saint that brings his petition to God, and [his]
thank offering is made fragrant with the riches of His grace, and the Father accepts it as your offering, and
the blessing comes to you, grace for grace.
Clarification of REFLECTING JESUS 285: according to 1John 2:1 Jesus Christ is our lawyer.

GOD’S AMAIZING GRACE 325 And the generous, holy Spirit of Christ, working upon the heart, will
yield in the life a converting influence upon others. RH 7-5-1908

THE UPWARD LOOK 275 Those who are workers together with God will work in Christ's lines.
Imbued with the spirit of Christ, they will rise to their true dignity and responsibility. The church is
not to fold her hands in security and say, "I am rich, and increased in goods, and in need of nothing." The
followers of Christ are not to trust past experience, and fail to go on to perfection. In so doing, the church
will meet with defeat and ruin. Upon what shall she depend? Wholly and entirely upon God--Letter 89,
Sept. 18, 1894, to Edson and Emma White.

8 MANUSCRIPT RELEASES 49 The Saviour is our Comforter. This I have proved Him to be.

YE SHALL RECEIVE POWER 54 "Learn of me," said the greatest Teacher that the world has ever
known. "Learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls" (Matthew
11:29). It is not enough for us to read the Word of God. The Scriptures are given for our instruction, and we
are to search them carefully and diligently. We are to study the Word of God, comparing one portion with
another. Scripture is the key that unlocks scripture. As we read and study and pray, there is beside us a
divine Teacher, the Holy Spirit, enlightening our understanding, that we may comprehend the great
truths of God's Word.--Pacific Union Recorder, Feb. 23, 1905.

THIS DAY WITH GOD 142.4 All who love Christ will be loved of the Father, and He will manifest
Himself to them. In all their emergencies and perplexities they will have a helper in Jesus Christ. That
Christ should manifest Himself to them, and yet be invisible to the world, was a mystery to the
disciples. They could not understand the words of Christ in their spiritual sense. They were thinking of the
outward, visible manifestation. They could not take in the fact that they could have the presence of
Christ with them, and yet He be unseen by the world. They did not understand the meaning of a
spiritual manifestation.

2 SELECT MESSAGES 18 The human agent, the seen instrument, is to preach the Word, and the Lord
Jesus, the unseen, agency, by His Holy Spirit is to make the Word efficacious and powerful. (Letter 105,
1900).

THIS DAY WITH GOD 225 Jesus desires to make celestial harmony in your soul. Read His words, not
with discouragement, but with confidence and hope. Listen to the blessed words which God speaks to you.
Walking with Christ means to believe that, though unseen, Christ is walking with you.--Letter
104, Aug. 4, 1901, to E. K. Beaman.

DESIRE OF AGES 494 The honored men of the world, the so-called great and wise men, with all
their boasted wisdom, could not comprehend the character of Christ. They judged Him from
outward appearance, from the humiliation that came upon Him as a human being. But to fishermen
and publicans it had been given to see the Invisible. Even the disciples failed of understanding all
that Jesus desired to reveal to them; but from time to time, as they surrendered themselves to the Holy
Spirit's power, their minds were illuminated. They realized that the mighty God, clad in the garb of
humanity, was among them. Jesus rejoiced that though this knowledge was not possessed by
the wise and prudent, it had been revealed to these humble men. Often as He had presented the
Old Testament Scriptures, and showed their application to Himself and His work of atonement, they had
been awakened by His Spirit, and lifted into a heavenly atmosphere. Of the spiritual truths
spoken by the prophets they had a clearer understanding than had the original writers
themselves. Hereafter they would read the Old Testament Scriptures, not as the doctrines of the scribes
and Pharisees, not as the utterances of wise men who were dead, but as a new revelation from God. They
beheld Him "whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth
Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." John 14:17. The only
way in which we can gain a more perfect apprehension of truth is by keeping the heart
tender and subdued by the Spirit of Christ. The soul must be cleansed from vanity and pride, and
vacated of all that has held it in possession, and Christ must be enthroned within.

TESTIMONIES MINISTRIES 88 How few realize that Jesus, unseen, is walking by their side!
How ashamed many would be to hear His voice speaking to them, and to know that He heard all their
foolish, common talk! And how many hearts would burn for holy joy if they only knew that the Saviour
was by their side, that the holy atmosphere of His presence was surrounding them, and they were
feeding on the bread of life! How pleased the Saviour would be to hear His followers talking of His precious
lessons of instruction, and to know that they had a relish for holy things!

DESIRES OF AGES 172 The wind is heard among the branches of the trees, rustling the leaves and
flowers; yet it is invisible, and no man knows whence it comes or whither it goes. So with the work of
the Holy Spirit upon the heart. It can no more be explained than can the movements of the wind. A
person may not be able to tell the exact time or place, or to trace all the circumstances in the process of
conversion; but this does not prove him to be unconverted. By an agency as unseen as the wind, Christ
is constantly working upon the heart.

DA 659 They are to open the soul to the bright beams of the Sun of Righteousness. With hearts
cleansed by Christ's most precious blood, in full consciousness of His presence, although unseen,

YE SHALL RECEIVE POWER (YRP) 200.2 I have been instructed that we should lead the sick in our
institutions to expect large things because of the faith of the physician in the Great Healer, who, in the years
of His earthly ministry, went through the towns and villages of the land and healed all who came to Him.
None were turned away; He healed them all. Let the sick realize that, although unseen, Christ is
present to bring relief and healing.

HEAVENLY PLACES 201 The Lord has united His nature with humanity expressly that He might
become a more distinguishable and definite object for our contemplation and love. He invites us to draw
near and contemplate the great light, the invisible God invested in robes of humanity, emitting a
glory so softened and subdued that our eyes can endure the sight. (Letter 117, 1896).

REVIEW & HERALD JANUARY 27, 1903 I urge our people to cease their criticism and evil speaking,
and go to God in earnest prayer, asking him to help them to help the erring. Let them link up with one
another and with Christ. Let them study the seventeenth of John, and learn how to pray and
how to live the prayer of Christ. He is the Comforter. He will abide in their hearts, making
their joy full.

THIS DAY WITH GOD 34 Let the peace and comfort of the Holy Spirit come into your hearts. Open
the door of your hearts, that Jesus may enter as an honored guest, and you will have a
Comforter.

YE SHALL RECRIVE POWER 176 The work of the Holy Spirit is immeasurably great. It is from this
Source that power and efficiency come to the worker for God; and the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, as
the personal presence of Christ to the soul. He who looks to Christ in simple, childlike faith is made
a partaker of the divine nature through the agency of the Holy Spirit. When led by the Spirit of God, the
Christian may know that he is made complete in Him who is the head of all things. As Christ was
glorified on the day of Pentecost, so will He again be glorified in the closing work of the gospel, when He
shall prepare a people to stand the final test, in the closing conflict of the great controversy.

9 TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH 189 Those who believe the truth should remember that they are
God's little children that they are under His training. Let them be thankful to God for His manifold mercies
and be kind to one another. They have one God [1] and one Saviour [2]; and one Spirit--the
Spirit of Christ [3]--is to bring unity into their ranks.

DA 805 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the
Holy Ghost: Whosesoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosesoever sins ye retain,
they are retained." The Holy Spirit was not yet fully manifested; for Christ had not yet been
glorified. The more abundant impartation of the Spirit did not take place till after Christ's
ascension. Not until this was received could the disciples fulfill the commission to preach the gospel to the
world. But the Spirit was now given for a special purpose. Before the disciples could fulfill their official
duties in connection with the church, Christ breathed His Spirit upon them. He was committing to them a
most sacred trust, and He desired to impress them with the fact that without the Holy Spirit this work
could not be accomplished.
The Holy Spirit is the breath of spiritual life in the soul. The impartation of the Spirit is the
impartation of the life of Christ. It imbues the receiver with the attributes of Christ.

3SM 204 If we keep our minds stayed upon Christ, he will come unto us as the rain, as the
former and latter rain upon the earth. As the Sun of Righteousness, He will arise with
healing in His wings. We may grow as the lily, revive as the corn, and grow as the vine.
By constantly looking to and patterning after Christ as our personal Saviour, we shall grow up into Him in
all things. Our faith will grow, our conscience will be sanctified. We will more and more become
like Christ in all our works and words. Thank God, we shall believe His Word. "The fruit of the Spirit is love,
joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."-
-Letter 106, 1908.

1SM 249, 250 "I am the way, the truth, and the life," Christ declares: "no man cometh unto the Father,
but by me" (John 14:6). Christ is invested with power to give life to all creatures. "As the living Father hath
sent me," He says, "and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me." "It is the
spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are
spirit, and they are life" (John 6:57, 63). Christ is not here referring to His doctrine, but to His
person, the divinity of His character. "Verily, verily, I say unto you," He says again, "The hour is coming,
and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. For as the
Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; and hath given him authority
to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man"(Jn.5:25-27).

DA 509 Not by the decisions of courts or councils or legislative assemblies, not by the patronage of worldly
great men, is the kingdom of Christ established, but by the implanting of Christ's nature in
humanity through the work of the Holy Spirit.

OUR FATHER CARES 42 & DA 828 Christ gives them the breath of His own Spirit, the life of
His own life. The Holy Spirit puts forth its highest energies to work in heart and mind. The grace of God
enlarges and multiplies their faculties, and every perfection of the divine nature comes to their assistance in
the work of saving souls. Through cooperation with Christ they are complete in Him, and in their human
weakness they are enabled to do the deeds of Omnipotence.

MARANATHA 302 We become partakers of the life of Christ, which is eternal. We derive immortality
from God by receiving the life of Christ, for in Christ dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily…
It is through the Spirit that Christ dwells in us; and the Spirit of God, received into the heart by
faith, is the beginning of the eternal life.

SON AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD 24 What an event was this when Christ placed Himself in the
position of Adam, and endured the test where Adam had failed, and by this act placed man on a vantage
ground, in favor with God, where he might overcome on his own account through the merits of Jesus. In
His name, through His grace, man may be an overcomer, even as Christ was an overcomer. In Christ
divinity and humanity were united, and the only way in which man may be an overcomer is through
becoming a partaker of the divine nature. . . . Divinity and humanity are blended in him who has
the spirit of Christ. The apostle Paul writes, "In all things it behooved him to be made like unto his
brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest." YI 30-6-1892

PATRIARCH AND PROPHETS (PP) 667.1 The piety of Abigail, like the fragrance of a flower, breathed
out all unconsciously in face and word and action. The Spirit of the Son of God was abiding in her
soul. Her speech, seasoned with grace, and full of kindness and peace, shed a heavenly influence.

CONFLICT AND COURAGE 251 Daniel was imbued with the spirit of Jesus Christ, and he
pleaded that the wise men of Babylon should not be destroyed. The followers of Christ do not possess
the attributes of Satan, which make it a pleasure to grieve and afflict the creatures of God. They have the
spirit of their Master who said, "I am come to seek and to save that which was lost. I came not
to call the righteous but sinners to repentance."

WHAT IS THE UNPARDONABLE SIN AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT?

DA 324,325 Every step in the rejection of Christ is a step toward the rejection of salvation, and
toward the sin against the Holy Spirit.
In rejecting Christ the Jewish people committed the unpardonable sin; and by refusing the
invitation of mercy, we may commit the same error.

THAT I MAY KNOW HIM 245 No one need look upon the sin against the Holy Ghost as something
mysterious and indefinable. The sin against the Holy Ghost is the sin of persistent refusal to
respond to the invitation to repent. If you refuse to believe in Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour. . .
, you love the atmosphere that surrounded the first great apostate. You choose this atmosphere rather than
the atmosphere that surrounds the Father and the Son, and God allows you to have your choice. But let
no soul be discouraged by this presentation of the matter. Let no one who is striving to do the will of the
Master be cast down. (Review and Herald, 29-6-1897).

CHRIST POSEES A DUAL NATURE, HE IS HUMAN AND HOLY SPIRIT

DESIRE OF AGES 507 Looking upon Him in His humiliation, as He walked a man among men, they
had not understood the mystery of His incarnation, the dual character of His nature. Their
eyes were holden, so that they did not fully recognize divinity in humanity.

CHRIST REFERRED TO HIMSELF AS THOUGH HE WERE ANOTHER PERSON?

DA 799 Thus Christ discoursed to His disciples, opening their minds that they might understand the
Scriptures. The disciples were weary, but the conversation did not flag. Words of life and assurance fell
from the Saviour's lips. But still their eyes were holden. As He told them of the overthrow of Jerusalem,
they looked upon the doomed city with weeping. But little did they yet suspect who their traveling
companion was. They did not think that the subject of their conversation was walking by their side; for
Christ referred to Himself as though He were another person.

WHAT SPIRIT DESCENDED IN JESUS’S BAPTISM?

LIFT HIM UP 78 Jesus did not receive baptism as a confession of guilt on His own account. He identified
Himself with sinners, taking the steps that we are to take, and doing the work that we must do. His life of
suffering and patient endurance after His baptism was also an example to us.
Upon coming up out of the water, Jesus bowed in prayer on the river bank. A new and important era
was opening before Him (The Desire of Ages, pp. 110, 111).
Never had angels listened to such a prayer. They were solicitous to bear to the praying Redeemer messages
of assurance and love. But no; the Father Himself will minister to His Son. Direct from the
throne proceeded the light of the glory of God. The heavens were opened, and beams of light and
glory proceeded there from and assumed the form of a dove, in appearance like burnished
gold. The dovelike form was emblematical of the meekness and gentleness of Christ.

GC 327 The apostle Peter testifies that "God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and
with power." Acts 10:38. And the Saviour Himself declared: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
because He hath anointed Me to preach to the poor. After His baptism He went into Galilee, "preaching the
gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled." Luke 4:18. Mark 1:14, 15.

IN THE COUNCIL OF PEACE TO REDEEM MANKIND, HOW MANY BEINGS WERE
PRESENT?

PP 63 Christ would take upon Himself the guilt and shame of sin--sin so offensive to a holy God that it
must separate the Father and His Son. Christ would reach to the depths of misery to rescue the ruined race.
Before the Father He pleaded in the sinner's behalf, while the host of heaven awaited the result
with an intensity of interest that words cannot express. Long continued was that mysterious
communing--"the counsel of peace" (Zechariah 6:13) for the fallen sons of men. The plan of
salvation had been laid before the creation of the earth; for Christ is "the Lamb slain from the
foundation of the world" (Revelation 13:8); yet it was a struggle, even with the King of the universe, to yield
up His Son to die for the guilty race. But "God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16. Oh, the mystery of
redemption!

DA 883 Before the foundations of the earth were laid, the Father and the Son had united in a
covenant to redeem man if he should be overcome by Satan. They had clasped Their hands in a solemn
pledge that Christ should become the surety for the human race. This pledge Christ has fulfilled. When
upon the cross He cried out, "It is finished," He addressed the Father. The compact had been fully carried
out. Now He declares: Father, it is finished. I have done Thy will, O My God. I have completed the work of
redemption.

REFLECTING CHRIST 16 The Father and the Son in consultation decided that Christ must
come to the world as a babe, and live the life that human beings must live from childhood to manhood,
bearing the trials that they must bear, and at the same time living a sinless life, that men might see in Him
an example of what they can become, and that He might know by experience how to help them in their
struggles with sin.

MINISTRY OF HEALING 429.2 Even the angels were not permitted to share the counsels between
the Father and the Son when the plan of salvation was laid. And human beings are not to intrude
into the secrets of the Most High. We are as ignorant of God as little children; but, as little children, we may
love and obey Him.

CHRIST TRIUMPHANT 24 If you would have divine enlightenment, go to the throne of grace, and you
will be answered from the seat of mercy. A compact was entered into by the Father and the Son to
save the world through Christ, who would give Himself that whosoever believeth in Him should not
perish, but have eternal life. No human power or angelic power could make such a covenant.—
Manuscript 16, 1890.

SINGS OF THE TIMES, DEC 23, 1897 In the plan to save a lost world, the counsel was between
them both; the covenant of peace was between the Father and the Son.

GC 415,416 The work of Christ as man's intercessor is presented in that beautiful prophecy of Zechariah
concerning Him "whose name is the Branch." Says the prophet: "He shall build the temple of the Lord; and
He shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon His [the Father's] throne; and He shall be a priest upon
His throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between Them both." Zechariah 6:12, 13.

GC 416,417 As a priest, Christ is now set down with the Father in His throne. Revelation 3:21.
Upon the throne with the eternal, self-existent One, is He who "hath borne our griefs, and
carried our sorrows," who "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin," that He might be
"able to succor them that are tempted." "If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father." Isaiah 53:4;
Hebrews 4:15; 2:18; 1 John 2:1. His intercession is that of a pierced and broken body, of a spotless life. The
wounded hands, the pierced side, the marred feet, plead for fallen man, whose redemption was purchased
at such infinite cost.”
"And the counsel of peace shall be between Them both." The love of the Father, no less than of the
Son, is the fountain of salvation for the lost race. Said Jesus to His disciples before. He went away: "I say
not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: for the Father Himself loveth you." John 16:26, 27. God
was "in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself." 2 Corinthians 5:19. And in the ministration in the
sanctuary above, "the counsel of peace shall be between Them both." "God so loved the world, that
He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting
life." John 3:16.

CHRIST TRIUMPHANT April 27 If you wish to have divine enlightenment, go to the throne of grace
and receive response from the mercy seat. A pact was established between the Father and the Son
in order to save the world through Christ, who would himself that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish but have eternal life. No human power or angel could have done such a
covenant. (Manuscript 16, 1890).

HEAVENLY PLACES (HP) 12.5 The plan of redemption was arranged in the counsels
between the Father and the Son. Then Christ pledged Himself to render an account for man if he
proved disloyal. He pledged Himself to make an atonement which would unite every believing soul to God.

THE FAITH I LIVE BY 76.3 Father and Son are pledged to fulfill the terms of the everlasting
covenant. God so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him
should not perish, but have everlasting life." Christ was not alone in making His great sacrifice. It was the
fulfillment of the covenant made between Him and His Father before the foundation of the
world was laid. With clasped hands they had entered into the solemn pledge that Christ would become
the surety for the human race if they were overcome by Satan's sophistry. {FLB 76.3}

BIBLE COMMENTARY VOLUME 7A Seventh Day Adventist p. 269 The Compact was fully
consummated.-
When Christ spoke these words, He addressed His Father. Christ was not alone in making this great
sacrifice. It was the fulfillment of the covenant made between the Father and the Son before the
foundation of the earth was laid. With clasped hands they entered into the solemn pledge that Christ
would become the substitute and surety for the human race if they were overcome by Satan's sophistry. The
compact was now being fully consummated. The climax was reached. Christ had the consciousness that He
had fulfilled to the letter the pledge He had made. In death He was more than conqueror. The redemption
price has been paid (MS 111, 1897).

BY HOW MANY DIVINE BEINGS WAS THE UNIVERSE CREATED?

PATRIARCHS AND PROPHETS 34.1 The Father wrought by His Son in the creation of all
heavenly beings. "By Him were all things created, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or
principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him." Col. 1:16.

2 TESTIMONIES 209.1 Jesus had united with the Father in making the world.

DA 769.1 & MARANATHA 371.2 In the beginning the Father and the Son had rested upon the
Sabbath after Their work of creation. When "the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host
of them" (Gen. 2:1), the Creator and all heavenly beings rejoiced in contemplation of the glorious scene.
"The morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy."

SR 20, THAT I MAY KNOW HIM 15, LIFTING HIM UP 41 The Father and the Son undertook
the great and wonderful work they had planned the creation of the world. The land came from
the hands of the Creator was very beautiful ... After creating the land and animals that inhabited it, the
Father and the Son took out his purpose, and designed before the fall of Satan, to create man in
his own image. They had acted together on the occasion of the creation of the earth and all living beings
was in it. Then God said to her son: "Let us make man in our image."

IN THE PASSION AND DEATH OF CHRIST, IN ADDITION TO HUMANS, WHO ALSO

WITNESSED THIS EVENT?

SIGNS OF THE TIMES; July 12, 1899 & LIFT HIM UP 257.3 Who is able to describe the last scenes
of Christ's life on earth, His trial in the judgment hall, His crucifixion? Who witnessed these scenes?
The heavenly universe, God the Father, Satan and his angels.

Clarification: the Holy Spirit is not named above because he was being beaten and crucified, which was
Christ Himself.

CHRIST IS GOD, BECAUSE HE HAS THE SAME NATURE AND ESSENCE OF HIS FATHER

DA 663.5 Christ had not ceased to be God when He became man. Though He had humbled
Himself to humanity, the Godhead was still His own.

RC 16.7 And "when the fulness of time was come, God sent forth his Son." … The heavenly Teacher had
come. Who was He? No less a being than the Son of God Himself. He appeared as God, and at
the same time as the Elder Brother of the human race.—S. Times, May 17, 1905.

THAT I MAY KNOW HIM 68.2 Wondrous combination of man and God! . . . He {Christ}
humbled Himself to man's nature. He did this that the Scripture might be fulfilled; and the plan was
entered into by the Son of God, knowing all the steps in His humiliation, that He must descend to make an
expiation for the sins of a condemned, groaning world. What humility was this! It amazed angels. The
tongue can never describe it; the imagination cannot take it in. The eternal Word consented to be
made flesh! God became man! It was a wonderful humility.

DA 311.4 Jesus was in all things made like unto His brethren. He became flesh, even as we are. He was
hungry and thirsty and weary. He was sustained by food and refreshed by sleep. He shared the lot of man;
yet He was the blameless Son of God. He was God in the flesh. His character is to be ours. The
Lord says of those who believe in Him, "I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and
they shall be My people." 2 Cor. 6:16.

1SM 342.1 The Creator was revealed in the Son of the infinite God. Here the question, "Can there be self-
denial with God?" was forever answered. Christ was God, and condescending to be made flesh, He
assumed humanity and became obedient unto death, that He might undergo infinite sacrifice.
Whatever sacrifice a human being could undergo Christ endured, notwithstanding Satan put forth every
effort to seduce Him with temptations; but the greater the temptation, the more perfect was the sacrifice.
All that was possible for man to endure in the conflict with Satan, Christ endured in His human and
divine nature combined.

REVIEW & HERALD, April 5, 1906 par. 6 If Christ made all things, he existed before all things. The
words spoken in regard to this are so decisive that no one need be left in doubt. Christ was God
essentially, and in the highest sense. He was with God from all eternity, God over all, blessed
forevermore.
The Lord Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, existed from eternity, a distinct person, yet one with
the Father. He was the surpassing glory of heaven. He was the commander of the heavenly intelligences,
and the adoring homage of the angels was received by him as his right. This was no robbery
of God (Prov.8:22-27).
There are light and glory in the truth that Christ was one with the Father before the foundation of the world
was laid. This is the light shining in a dark place, making it resplendent with divine, original glory.

COUNSEL ON HEALTH 358 By His mighty power, notwithstanding the opposition of Pharaoh, God
delivered His people from Egypt, that they might keep the law which had been given in Eden. He
brought them to Sinai to hear the proclamation of this law.
By proclaiming the Ten Commandments to the children of Israel with His own voice, God
demonstrated their importance. In awful grandeur He made known His majesty and authority as
Ruler of the world. This He did to impress the people with the sacredness of His law and the importance of
obeying it. The power and glory with which the law was given reveal its importance. It is the faith once
delivered to the saints by Christ our Redeemer speaking from Sinai.
Clarification: Compare this quotation with 1 Corinthians 10:4. It says: and all drank the same spiritual
drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

HP 15.4 God spared not His only-begotten Son. To show the depth of His love for man, He delivered
Him up for us all. "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). Behold
Him dying on the cross. Behold Him who was equal with God, mocked and derided by the mob.
Behold Him in Gethsemane, bowed under the burden of the sins of the whole world.

THE UPWARD LOOK 367.4 The Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father, is truly
God in infinity, but not in personality.

31
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
THAT I MAY KNOW HIM 320, par. 3,4 The shortness of time is urged as an incentive for us to seek
righteousness and to make Christ our friend. This is not the great motive. It savors of selfishness. Is it
necessary that the terrors of the day of God be held before us to compel us through fear to right action? This
ought not to be. Jesus is attractive. He is full of love, mercy, and compassion. He proposes to be our
friend, to walk with us through all the rough pathways of life. He says to you, I am the Lord thy God;
walk with me, and I will fill thy path with light. Jesus, the Majesty of Heaven, proposes to
elevate to companionship with himself those who come to him with their burdens, their weaknesses, and
their cares. He will make them his dear children, and finally give them an inheritance of more value than
the empires of kings, a crown of glory richer than has ever decked the brow of the most exalted earthly
monarch. It is our privilege to have a calm, close, happy walk with Jesus every day we live. (Review and
Herald, 2-8-1881).

LIFT HIM UP 345.3 Jesus Christ laid off His royal robe, His kingly crown, and clothed His divinity
with humanity, in order to become a substitute and surety for humanity, that dying in humanity He
might by his death destroy him who had the power of death. He could not have done this as God, but
by coming as man Christ could die. By death He overcame death. The death of Christ bore to the
death him who had the power of death, and opened the gates of the tomb for all who receive Him as their
personal Saviour.
Christ proclaimed over the rent sepulcher of Joseph, "I am the resurrection, and the life." He, the world's
Redeemer, has bruised the serpent's head, depriving him of all power ever to make men feel his scorpion
sting; for He has brought life and immortality to light. The gates of eternal life are thrown open to all who
believe on Jesus Christ. . . . In dying, Jesus has made it impossible for those who believe on Him to die
eternally. . . .
Christ lived and died as a man, that He might be God both of the living and of the dead. It was
to make it impossible for men to lose eternal life if they believe on Him. The life of men and women is
precious in the sight of God; for Christ has purchased that life by being executed in their stead. Thus He
made it possible for us to attain to immortality. In Christ were united the divine and the human--the
Creator and the creature.
The nature of God, whose law had been transgressed, and the nature of Adam, the transgressor,
meet in Jesus--the Son of God, and the Son of man.

AMEZING GRACE 79.4 By His humanity, Christ touched humanity; by His divinity, He lays hold
upon the throne of God. As the Son of man, He gave us an example of obedience; as the Son of God,
He gives us power to obey. . . . The Child of Bethlehem, the meek and lowly Saviour, is God
"manifest in the flesh" (1 Tim. 3:16). . . . "God with us" is the surety of our deliverance from sin, the
assurance of our power to obey the law of heaven. . . .

3SM 128.1 The more we think about Christ's becoming a babe here on earth, the more wonderful it
appears. How can it be that the helpless babe in Bethlehem's manger is still the divine Son of
God? Though we cannot understand it, we can believe that He who made the worlds, for our sakes became
a helpless babe. Though higher than any of the angels, though as great as the Father on the throne
of heaven, He became one with us. In Him God and man became one, and it is in this fact that we find the
hope of our fallen race. Looking upon Christ in the flesh, we look upon God in humanity, and see
in Him the brightness of divine glory, the express image of God the Father. The Youth's Instructor, Nov. 21,
1895.

GC 24 For centuries the Jews had vainly endeavored to show wherein the promise of God given by Haggai
had been fulfilled; yet pride and unbelief blinded their minds to the true meaning of the prophet's words.
The second temple was not honored with the cloud of Jehovah's glory, but with the living presence
of One in whom dwelt the fullness of the Godhead bodily--who was God Himself manifest in
the flesh. The "Desire of all nations" had indeed come to His temple when the Man of Nazareth
taught and healed in the sacred courts. In the presence of Christ, and in this only, did the second
temple exceed the first in glory. But Israel had put from her the proffered Gift of heaven. With the
humble Teacher who had that day passed out from its golden gate, the glory had forever departed from the
temple. Already were the Saviour's words fulfilled: "Your house is left unto you desolate." Matt.23:38

32
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
1SM 308.3 Christ, equal with God, the brightness of the Father's "glory, and the express image of his
person" (Heb. 1:3), clothed His divinity with humanity, and came to this earth to suffer and die for
sinners. The only-begotten Son of God humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death
of the cross.

THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES, July 4, 1895 par. 6 "Christ was one with the Father, yet when sin
entered our world through Adam's transgression, he was willing to step down from the exaltation
of one who was equal with God"

PP 63.2 Since the divine law is as sacred as God Himself, only one equal with God could make
atonement for its transgression. None but Christ could redeem fallen man from the curse of the
law and bring him again into harmony with Heaven. Christ would take upon Himself the guilt and shame of
sin--sin so offensive to a holy God that it must separate the Father and His Son. Christ would reach to the
depths of misery to rescue the ruined race.

DA 649 Christ would have His disciples understand that although He had washed their feet, this did not in
the least detract from His dignity. "Ye call Me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am." And being so
infinitely superior, He imparted grace and significance to the service. No one was so exalted as Christ,
and yet He stooped to the humblest duty. That His people might not be misled by the selfishness which
dwells in the natural heart, and which strengthens by self-serving, Christ Himself set the example of
humility. He would not leave this great subject in man's charge. Of so much consequence did He regard it,
that He Himself, One equal with God, acted as servant to His disciples.

THE UPWARD LOOK 353 O how careless, how full of crime and disobedience and sin, how sad, how
terribly sad is the fact that the world does not recognize the love of God in giving Jesus Christ as our
Redeemer, Jesus Christ, who was equal with God. "God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

Amazing Grace 45.2 From the days of eternity the Lord Jesus Christ was one with the Father; He
was "the image of God," the image of His greatness and majesty, "the outshining of his glory." It was to
manifest this glory that He came to our world. To this sin-darkened earth He came to reveal the
light of God's love--to be "God with us.". . . Our little world is the lesson book of the universe.

REVIEW & HERALD, October 29, 1895, par. 6 Christ had not exchanged his divinity for
humanity; but he had clothed his divinity in humanity.

IS THE SDA CHURCH BABYLON? WHEN WILL BABYLONS FALL BE COMPLETE?

GC 389,390 The second angel's message of Revelation 14 was first preached in the summer
of 1844, and it then had a more direct application to the churches of the United States, where the warning
of the judgment had been most widely proclaimed and most generally rejected, and where the declension in
the churches had been most rapid. But the message of the second angel did not reach its complete
fulfillment in 1844. The churches then experienced a moral fall, in consequence of their refusal of the
light of the advent message; but that fall was not complete. As they have continued to reject the special
truths for this time they have fallen lower and lower. Not yet, however, can it be said that "Babylon
is fallen,... because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication." She has not
yet made all nations do this. The spirit of world conforming and indifference to the testing truths for
our time exists and has been gaining ground in churches of the Protestant faith in all the countries of
Christendom; and these churches are included in the solemn and terrible denunciation of the second angel.
But the work of apostasy has not yet reached its culmination.
The Bible declares that before the coming of the Lord, Satan will work "with all power and signs and lying
wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness;" and they that "received not the love of the truth,
that they might be saved," will be left to receive "strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.” 2
Thessalonians 2:9-11. Not until this condition shall be reached, and the union of the church
with the world shall be fully accomplished throughout Christendom, will the fall of Babylon
be complete. The change is a progressive one, and the perfect fulfillment of Revelation 14:8
is yet future.
… Revelation 18 points to the time when, as the result of rejecting the threefold warning of Revelation
14:6-12, the church will have fully reached the condition foretold by the second angel, and the
people of God still in Babylon will be called upon to separate from her communion. This
message is the last that will ever be given to the world; and it will accomplish its work. When
those that "believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness" (2 Thessalonians 2:12), shall
be left to receive strong delusion and to believe a lie, then the light of truth will shine upon all
whose hearts are open to receive it, and all the children of the Lord that remain in Babylon will heed the
call: "Come out of her, My people" (Revelation 18:4).

Clarification: Analyzing the following quote, they say that apostasy was not yet complete and that the fall of
Babylon was not complete either because, the drink of the wine of her fornication was not yet given to all
nations. The fall of Babylon will not be completed until the only church (the Seventh Day Adventist
Church), that had not been contaminated with Babylonian doctrines has apostatized from the biblical truth.
And that is, taking in strange doctrines to those set forth in the beginning, and that the union with the
world is complete in all Christian churches.

EARLY WRITINGS 261.1 I saw that God has honest children among the nominal Adventists
and the fallen churches, and before the plagues shall be poured out, ministers and people
will be called out from these churches and will gladly receive the truth. Satan knows this; and
before the loud cry of the third angel is given, he raises an excitement in these religious bodies, that those
who have rejected the truth may think that God is with them. He hopes to deceive the honest and lead them
to think that God is still working for the churches. But the light will shine, and all who are honest
will leave the fallen churches, and take their stand with the remnant.

Clarification: Nominal Adventists are invited to leave their churches which are fallen. From what church
will the nominal Adventist come out of? Obviously from all those which belong to SDA denomination and
preach the soon coming of Christ, namely the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

IF ALL CHURCHES ARE FALLING, THEN, WHERE IS THE CHURCH OF GOD?

UPWARD LOOK 315.5 God has a church. It is not the great cathedral, neither is it the
national establishment, neither is it the various denominations; it is the people who love God and
keep His commandments. "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the
midst of them" (Matt. 18:20). Where Christ is even among the humble few, this is Christ's
church, for the presence of the High and Holy One who inhabiteth eternity can alone
constitute a church.
Where two or three are present who love and obey the commandments of God, Jesus there presides, let it
be in the desolate place of the earth, in the wilderness, in the city enclosed in prison walls.

THE BAPTISM, WHO DOES IT SIMBOLIZE AND IN WHICH NAME SHOULD IT BE DONE?

Romans 6:3-4 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized
into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Colossians 2:11,12 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting
off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in
which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the
dead.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of
Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:14-17 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of
God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might
receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in
the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Acts 10:43,48 To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will
receive remission of sins. And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
Then they asked him to stay a few days.

Acts 8:37,38 Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may. And he answered and said, “I
believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. So he commanded the chariot to stand still.
And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.

Acts 19:4,5 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that
they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” When they heard
this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Acts 22:16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on
the name of the Lord.

1º Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you
were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

Galatians 3:26,27 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were
baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

1º John 2:6,12 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked...I write
to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.

Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God the Father through Him.

Clarification: Considering all previous examples of the disciples who baptized in the name of Jesus, we
conclude that Matthew 28:19 is the only verse that commands us to baptize in the threefold name: Father,
Son and Holy Spirit. Obviously it is poorly translated or does not belong to the original writings.
A Biblical version (among others) that translates under a single name is the Messianic Jewish version of
Kadosh Ascunce Diego 2003, which expresses the text as follows:
Matthew 28:19 Therefore go and do talmidim (disciples) to people of all nations, giving them the
immersion in my name.

THE TRUE SEAL OF GOD

Before identifying the seal of God, we should know why the Holy Spirit has not been poured out yet, which
is known as the latter rain. The latter rain matures the wheat (which will be the saved) and prepares it for
harvest. In addition, we ought to do a work of restoration of all the pure doctrines as God instituted it,
before Christ second return to earth.

Acts 3:19-21 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of
refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was
preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things,
which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.

1º John 2:21-26 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and
that no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who
denies the Father and the Son, Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who
acknowledges the Son has the Father also. Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the
beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the
Father. And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life. These things I have written to
you concerning those who try to deceive you.

Jeremiah 3:3 Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there has been no latter rain. You have
had a harlot’s forehead; You refuse to be ashamed.

Revelation 17:4-5 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and
precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her
fornication: And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT,
THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

The harlot has written on her forehead: “a mystery”. This is the reason why the latter rain has not fallen yet.
But what is this "mystery" as it is declared by the same harlot (Catholic Church)?

“Catechism of the Catholic church” belief #234 "The Mystery of the Trinity is the central mystery of
faith and Christian living. It is the mystery of God himself. It is therefore the source of all the
other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them. It is the most fundamental and essential
teaching in the hierarchy of the truths of faith.

Catholic Handbook for Today pp. 16 "The mystery of the Trinity is the central doctrine of the
Catholic faith. Upon this doctrine is based all the other teachings of the church."

Clearly, the harlot has written on her forehead: Trinity. This doctrine is unbiblical and is the cause for the
numbness and apostasy of the true church which God founded in 1844, the Seventh Day Adventist
Church(SDA). This church had the right concept about God and his personality, but after the death of all
pioneers and founders, the SDA Church has turned away from God since 1931 by adopting this pagan
Babylonian doctrine, the trinity.

Revelation 14:1,4 Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred
and forty-four thousand, having His Father’s name written on their foreheads.
These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who
follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being first fruits to God
and to the Lamb.

Revelation 22:3,4 And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be
in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their
foreheads.

Revelation 3:10-12 Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the
hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.
Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. He who
overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write
on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes
down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.

Quotes from Ellen White confirming the above on the Seal of God

EW 15.1 The 144,000 were all sealed and perfectly united. On their foreheads was written, God,
New Jerusalem, and a glorious star containing Jesus' new name. At our happy, holy state the
wicked were enraged, and would rush violently up to lay hands on us to thrust us into prison, when we
would stretch forth the hand in the name of the Lord, and they would fall helpless to the ground. Then it
was that the synagogue of Satan knew that God had loved us who could wash one another's feet and salute
the brethren with a holy kiss, and they worshiped at our feet.

TM 446.1 The indelible mark of God is upon them. God can plead that His own name is written
there. The Lord has shut them in. Their destination is inscribed--"God, New Jerusalem." They are
God's property, His possession.

5 TESTIMONIES 752.3 While John was shown the last great struggles of the church with earthly powers,
he was also permitted to behold the final victory and deliverance of the faithful. He saw the church
brought into deadly conflict with the beast and his image, and the worship of that beast enforced
on pain of death. But looking beyond the smoke and din of the battle, he beheld a company upon
Mount Zion with the Lamb, having, instead of the mark of the beast, the "Father's name
written in their foreheads." And again he saw "them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and
over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the
harps of God" and singing the song of Moses and the Lamb.

OUR FATHER CARES 318 They had neglected the needful preparation; therefore they could not receive
the refreshing that all must have to fit them to live in the sight of a holy God. Those who . . . fail to
purify their souls in obeying the whole truth . . . will come up to the time of the falling of the
plagues, and then see that they needed to be hewed and squared for the building. But there will
be . . . no Mediator to plead their cause before the Father.

OUR FATHER CARES 328 Just as soon as the people of God are sealed in their foreheads—it is
not any seal or mark that can be seen, but a settling into the truth, both intellectually and
spiritually, so they cannot be moved—just as soon as God’s people are sealed and prepared for
the shaking, it will come. Indeed, it has begun already; the judgments of God are now upon the land, to
give us warning, that we may know what is coming.
The days are fast approaching when there will be great perplexity and confusion. Satan, clothed in angel
robes, will deceive, if possible, the very elect. There will be gods many and lords many. Every wind of
doctrine will be blowing. . . .

Welfare Ministry 33 All who love God will show that they bear His sign by keeping His
commandments.

MARANATHA 211.2 The sign, or seal, of God is revealed in the observance of the seventh-day
Sabbath, the Lord's memorial of creation...

OUR FATHER CARES 83 The seal of God’s law is found in the fourth commandment. This
only, of all the ten, brings to view both the name and the title of the Lawgiver. It declares Him to
be the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and thus shows His claim to reverence and worship above all
others. Aside from this precept, there is nothing in the Decalogue to show by whose authority the law is
given.

Clarification: The seal of God is in the Sabbath commandment because there is the name of God, which
indeed it is the seal of God.

WHO ARE THE MUTE DOGS AS THE BIBLE AND ELLEN G. WHITE DISCRIBE THEM?

Isaiah 56:10,11 His watchmen [are] blind: they are all ignorant, they [are] all dumb dogs, they
cannot bark; sleeping, Yea, [they are] greedy dogs [which] can never have enough, and they
[are] shepherds [that] cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain,
from his quarter.

Ezekiel 34:2-11, 22-27,31 Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel, prophesy and say to
them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD to the shepherds: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who feed
themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flocks?
You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool; you slaughter the fatlings, but you do not feed the flock.
The weak you have not strengthened, nor have you healed those who were sick, nor bound up the broken or
brought back what was driven away, nor sought what was lost; but with force and cruelty you have ruled
them.
So they were scattered because there was no shepherd; and they became food for all the beasts of the field
when they were scattered. My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and on every high hill; yes, My
flock was scattered over the whole face of the earth, and no one was seeking or searching for them.
‘Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:
“As I live,” says the Lord GOD, “surely because My flock became a prey, and My flock became food for every
beast of the field, because there was no shepherd, nor did My shepherds search for My flock, but
the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock”— therefore, O shepherds, hear the word of
the LORD!
Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require My flock at their
hand; I will cause them to cease feeding the sheep, and the shepherds shall feed themselves no
more; for I will deliver My flock from their mouths, that they may no longer be food for them.
‘For thus says the Lord GOD:
therefore I will save My flock, and they shall no longer be a prey; and I will judge between
sheep and sheep.
I will establish one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them—My servant David. He shall feed them and
be their shepherd.
And I, the LORD, will be their God, and My servant David a prince among them; I, the LORD, have spoken.
“I will make a covenant of peace with them, and cause wild beasts to cease from the land; and they will
dwell safely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.
I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing; and I will cause showers to come down
in their season; there shall be showers of blessing.
Then the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase. They shall be safe in
their land; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke and
delivered them from the hand of those who enslaved them.
You are My flock, the flock of My pasture; you are men, and I am your God,” says the Lord GOD.

Philippians 3:2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation!

Revelation 22:14,15 Blessed are those who do His commandments that they may have the right to the tree
of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever
loves and practices a lie.

5 TESTMONIES 211.1 The class who do not feel grieved over their own spiritual declension, nor mourn
over the sins of others, will be left without the seal of God. The Lord commissions His messengers, the men
with slaughtering weapons in their hands: "Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye
spare, neither have ye pity: slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but
come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient
men which were before the house."
Here we see that the church--the Lord's sanctuary--was the first to feel the stroke of the
wrath of God.
The ancient men, those to whom God had given great light and who had stood as guardians
of the spiritual interests of the people, had betrayed their trust. They had taken the position that
we need not look for miracles and the marked manifestation of God's power as in former days. Times have
changed. These words strengthen their unbelief, and they say: The Lord will not do good, neither will He do
evil. He is too merciful to visit His people in judgment. Thus "Peace and safety" is the cry from men who

38
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
will never again lift up their voice like a trumpet to show God's people their transgressions and the house of
Jacob their sins. These dumb dogs that would not bark are the ones who feel the just
vengeance of an offended God. Men, maidens, and little children all perish together.

WHAT WILL THE ADVENTIST MINISTERS SAY WHEN THIS TRUTH IS PRESENTED?

LAST DAYS EVENTS 209,210 There is to be in the [Seventh-day Adventist] churches a wonderful
manifestation of the power of God, but it will not move upon those who have not humbled themselves
before the Lord, and opened the door of the heart by confession and repentance. In the manifestation of
that power which lightens the earth with the glory of God, they will see only something
which in their blindness they think dangerous, something which will arouse their fears, and
they will brace themselves to resist it.
Because the Lord does not work according to their ideas and expectations they will oppose the work.
"Why," they say, "should we not know the Spirit of God, when we have been in the work so
many years?"-RH Extra, Dec. 23, 1890.
The third angel's message will not be comprehended; the light which will lighten the earth with its glory
will be called a false light, by those who refuse to walk in its advancing glory. RH May 27, 1890.

SATAN USES PASTORS TO HYPNOTIZE PEOPLE, TO RESIST THE TRUTH

8 TESTIMONIES 293.4 The experience of the past will be repeated. In the future, Satan's
superstitions will assume new forms. Errors will be presented in a pleasing and flattering manner.
False theories, clothed with garments of light, will be presented to God's people. Thus Satan
will try to deceive, if possible, the very elect. Most seducing influences will be exerted; minds will be
hypnotized.
Corruptions of every type, similar to those existing among the antediluvians, will be brought in to
take minds captive.
The exaltation of nature as God, the unrestrained license of the human will, the counsel of the ungodly--
these Satan uses as agencies to bring about certain ends. He will employ the power of mind over
mind to carry out his designs. The most sorrowful thought of all is that under his deceptive
influence men will have a form of godliness, without having a real connection with God. Like
Adam and Eve, who ate the fruit from t the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, many are even now
feeding upon the deceptive morsels of error.
Satanic agencies are clothing false theories in an attractive garb, even as Satan in the Garden of
Eden concealed his identity from our first parents by speaking through the serpent. These agencies are
instilling into human minds that which in reality is deadly error. The hypnotic influence of
Satan will rest upon those who turn from the plain word of God to pleasing fables.
It is those who have had the most light that Satan most assiduously seeks to ensnare. He
knows that if he can deceive them, they will, under his control, clothe sin with garments of righteousness,
and lead many astray.

COUNSELS ON HEALTH 357.1 The ministers of the popular churches will not allow the
truth to be presented to the people from their pulpits. The enemy leads them to resist the truth
with bitterness and malice. Falsehoods are manufactured. Christ's experience with the Jewish rulers
is repeated. Satan strives to eclipse every ray of light shining from God to His people. He works
through the ministers as he worked through the priests and rulers in the days of Christ. Will
those who know the truth join his party, to hinder, embarrass, and turn aside those who are trying to work
in God's appointed way to advance His work, to plant the standard of truth in the regions of darkness?

TM 365.3 If men resist the warnings the Lord sends them, they become even leaders in evil
practice; such men assume to exercise the prerogatives of God--they presume to do that which God Himself
will not do in seeking to control the minds of men. They introduce their own methods and plans,
and through their misconceptions of God they weaken the faith of others in the truth, and
bring in false principles that will work like leaven to taint and corrupt our institutions and
churches.

TM 365.2 There are but two parties. Satan works with his crooked, deceiving power, and through strong
delusions he catches all who do not abide in the truth, who have turned away their ears from the truth and

39
www.theeternaltruth.org 2010
have turned unto fables. Satan himself abode not in the truth; he is the mystery of iniquity.
Through his subtlety he gives to his soul-destroying errors the appearance of truth. Herein is their power to
deceive. It is because they are a counterfeit of the truth that spiritualism, theosophy, and the
like deceptions gain such power over the minds of men. Herein is the masterly working of
Satan. He pretends to be the savior of man, the benefactor of the human race, and thus he more readily
lures his victims to destruction.

WHO IS THE COMFORTER THAT SATAN SEEKS TO HIDE FROM CHURCHES, SO THAT THEY DIE
SPIRITUALLY?

RH, August 26, 1890, par. 10 The reason why the churches are weak and sickly and ready to die, is that
the enemy has brought influences of a discouraging nature to bear upon trembling souls. He has sought
to shut Jesus from their view as the Comforter, as one who reproves, who warns, who
admonishes them, saying, "This is the way, walk ye in it." Christ has all power in heaven and in
earth, and he can strengthen the wavering, and set right the erring. He can inspire with confidence, with
hope in God; and confidence in God always results in creating confidence in one another.

WE OUGHT TO TEACH WHAT IS TRUE EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD BE CONTRARY TO THE

DOCTRINES AS PRESENTLY ESTABLISHED AS FUNDAMENTALS.

TM 69,70 There are many today who feel indignant and aggrieved that any voice should be raised
presenting ideas that differ from their own in regard to points of religious belief. Have they not long
advocated their ideas as truth? So the priests and rabbis reasoned in apostolic days: What mean these men
who are unlearned, some of them mere fishermen, who are presenting ideas contrary to the doctrines
which the learned priests and rulers are teaching the people? They have no right to meddle with the
fundamental principles of our faith. But we see that the God of heaven sometimes commissions
men to teach that which is regarded as contrary to the established doctrines. Because those
who were once the depositaries of truth became unfaithful to their sacred trust, the Lord
chose others who would receive the bright beams of the Sun of Righteousness, and would
advocate truths that were not in accordance with the ideas of the religious leaders. And then
these leaders, in the blindness of their minds, give full sway to what is supposed to be righteous indignation
against the ones who have set aside cherished fables. They act like men who have lost their reason. They do
not consider the possibility that they themselves have not rightly understood the word. They will not
open their eyes to discern the fact that they have misinterpreted and misapplied the
Scriptures, and have built up false theories, calling them fundamental doctrines of the faith.

WHAT IS IT THAT PREVENTS MEN FROM SEEING THE TRUTH?

TM 105,106 Those who allow prejudice to bar the mind against the reception of truth cannot
receive the divine enlightenment. Yet, when a view of Scripture is presented, many do not ask, Is it
true--in harmony with God's word? but, By whom is it advocated? and unless it comes through the
very channel that pleases them, they do not accept it. So thoroughly satisfied are they with their
own ideas that they will not examine the Scripture evidence with a desire to learn, but refuse to
be interested, merely because of their prejudices.
The Lord often works where we least expect Him; He surprises us by revealing His power through
instruments of His own choice, while He passes by the men to whom we have looked as
those through whom light should come. God desires us to receive the truth upon its own merits--
because it is truth.

WAS ELLEN G. WHITE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF HER HUSBAND TO WRITE HER BOOKS?

5 TESTIMONIES 63,64 Many are looking with self-complacency upon the long years during which they
have advocated the truth. They now feel that they are entitled to a reward for their past trials and
obedience. But this genuine experience in the things of God in the past makes them more
guilty before Him for not preserving their integrity and going forward to perfection. The
faithfulness for the past year will never atone for the neglect of the present year. A man's truthfulness
yesterday will not atone for his falsehood today.
Many excused their disregard of the testimonies by saying: "Sister White is influenced by her
husband; the testimonies are molded by his spirit and judgment." Others were seeking to gain
something from me which they could construe to justify their course or to give them influence. It was then I
decided that nothing more should go from my pen until the converting power of God was seen in the
church. But the Lord placed the burden upon my soul. I labored for you earnestly. How much this cost both
my husband and myself, eternity will tell.
Have I not knowledge of the state of the church, when the Lord has presented their case before me
again and again for years? Repeated warnings have been given, yet there has been no decided
change.
I saw that the frown of God was upon His people for their assimilation to the world.

Dear brother or sister who has read this document: knowing and understanding the truth that has been
shown, now is your decision to take stand for the only and eternal truth of God. Or you may remain
indifferent and stubbornly cling to those traditional errors as many people do.
It is my desire that you enlist in the ranks of the true Godhead which is taught in the Scriptures, under the
banner of our great God and Savior Yeshúa Ha Mashíaj.

2º Peter 1:5-8 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue
knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness
brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be
neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
