The rhetorical purpose of the infographic I am creating is to give information about people who

are for uniforms in public schools versus the people who are against the implementation of
uniforms in public schools. The whole debate and politics of whether or not public schools
should require and mandate that students in those schools to wear uniforms all started back in
1996 when the United States Department of Education pushed for schools to make uniforms
mandatory for all students. They pushed for this because they wanted to increase the amount of
discipline in a school and decrease the violence that was happening in the schools. The push for
mandatory school uniforms died down for some years but has recently picked back up around
2010. For uniforms and against uniforms in public schools debate has recently picked back up
and has become a hot debate. Both sides of this seemingly unswaying and unmoved debate keep
coming back with more and more reasons why the side they choose to defend is correct and why
either no schools should have school uniforms mandated or that all schools everywhere should
have uniforms be a must. There seems to be no middle ground (aka having a strong and
supported school dress code where some agreement could be reached). This has led me to create
an infographic explaining both sides of this riveting debate and explain some of the background
of why this movement and debate started and what are some of the facts and reasonings that
either both sides or exclusively to one side and not the other. The title of my infographic is
“School Uniforms in public schools” which to me seemed like a very unbiased unswayed title
that when the reader reads, shows that this is a neutral unbiased infographic that only states the
facts and shows the relative reasons each side of the debate has to offer. After the title of my
infographic is a section titled “background” which as stated, gives some background of how the
debate was started and why it started. After the background section, is a section labeled “pro”
which shows the argument of the side that is for having uniforms in public schools. This section
gives the most importants facts and reasons of this side of why there should be a uniform policy
implemented in schools. This section is then promptly followed by a section labeled “con” which
shows the facts and reasons to the side that are against having uniforms in public schools. This
section gives the most important argumentative facts this side has to offer against the side for
uniforms being mandatory. The “con” section is then followed by a s section labeled
“experiment” which displays to experiments done regarding school uniforms. This experiments
applied a dress code to a school that did not have one the previous year to see what would be
affected. The results of this experiment are shown in the section labeled “results”. Most of the
results are results that are shown are more towards the pro side of the argument.
