Important Notices

Installation Infrastructure Notice

FSIM Plus software version 4.7 works only with I/A Series™ 8.7 legacy security,
FoxView™ / FoxDraw™ (FV/FD) 10.2.3, and DYNSIM® 4.5(.x) versions. The FSIM
Plus software version 4.7 operation under the I/A Series 8.7 Cyber Secure environment is
under review as a possible future FSIM Plus software feature. For simulation with earlier
DYNSIM software versions or earlier I/A Series software releases refer to the
compatibility table in the body of this document. Consult compatibility table updates for
future software versions through technical support to determine future version DYNSIM
software and TRISIM Plus® software compatibility with FSIM Plus software.

There are two options available to prepare an I/A Series 8.7 system for FSIM Plus 4.7
software installation beginning with DYNSIM version 4.5 software.

1 - In a multi-host simulator system, you may use the Activation Manager 1.0 installer on
selected host machines when only FSIM, SimSync, or TRISIM engines will be installed
on that host. When this option is used, the DYNSIM engines and DYNSIM software User
Interface will NOT be installed. You may later add version compatible DYNSIM
infrastructure and DYNSIM engines if you choose. Note that a full DYNSIM
infrastructure install must be on at least one host machine in the simulator to provide a
simulator SQL data base host and Naming Service. The full DYNSIM software installer
is the only means of installing the SQL data base host, Dynamic Simulation Suite (DSS)
Naming Services, DYNSIM User Interface and DYNSIM engines.

2 – As in prior versions, you may install DYNSIM software 4.5.x with the FSIM
Plus/TRISIM Plus software installation option as a prerequisite to installing FSIM Plus
software. This option will install the DYNSIM User Interface with menus specific to
FSIM Plus in the DYNSIM user interface as well as all Dynamic Simulation System
components including fully functional Activation Manager 1.0 components. If you use
this option you do NOT need to separately install Activation Manager 1.0.

You may install FSIM Plus 4.7 software, DYNSIM 4.5(.x) software, and Activation
Manager 1.0 in any order but I/A Series 8.7 software must be installed first. Note that
installing both DYNSIM 4.5(.x) software and Activation Manager 1.0 is redundant
though harmless.

General Upgrade Notes

We recommend using SysDef 2.11 included with I/A version 8.7 software. Only SysDef
2.10, or later versions, can be used to configure I/A Series software systems to include
simulation. Do not attempt to use any earlier version of SysDef.

Snapshots saved in versions before FSIM Plus v4.7 software cannot be upgraded.

Upgrade from prior FSIM Plus software versions

The I/A Series 8.7 software install is applied to the pre-installed I/A Series 8.5 system.
Note that I/A Series 8.5 is a Day 0 release that involves significant changes to the I/A
Series base operating system. Upgrade of existing workstations to I/A Series 8.5 software
will also need to upgrade the underlying operating system.

Patch Kit Installation Location Notice

All future patch install kits will only be found on the web site:
http://iom.invensys.com/EN/Pages/home.aspx under support. You will need an
authorization code to access the FSIM Plus Electronic Software Distribution (ESD) and
Knowledge Base area.

FSIM Plus Support for SOE and TDR / TDA

FSIM Plus version 4.7 software continues support for the legacy I/A Series Sequence of
Events (SOE) that uses the EVENT block. The legacy SOE implementations that make
use of FoxGuard / ACM are not supported. FSIM Plus version 4.7 software does not
support the new I/A Series SOE application which uses AIM* with FBM207 and
FBM217.

If using a TRISIM engine with FSIM Plus software, the Triconex SOE is not supported.

FSIM Plus software does not support Transient Data Recorder / Transient Data Analyzer
(TDR / TDA).

FAIM and AIM*® API Support

FAIM supports historical trending in FoxView / Display Manager and alarm history in
FoxAlert. Additionally, FAIM supports the browser interfaces in FoxDraw, Message
Manager Configurator and other similar applications.

FAIM does not provide a complete implementation of AIM*API and will not support
AIM* client applications such as AIM*Explorer, AIM*DataLink and the AIM*Historian
tools such as the historian configurator, etc.

Users requiring AIM* client applications in a simulation environment should use the
actual AIM* Historian and its associated applications. In this instance, management of
trend and alarms for snapshots and time synchronization with the simulation cannot be
supported.

Important: Read First

Note: It is not possible to have FAIM and AIM*Historian running on the same
workstation at the same time.

Other Foxboro I/A Series Software Compatibility Notes:

• I/A Series Quick Fixes are not supported in FSIM Plus version 4.7 software.
• IACC 2.4 is supported, with the exception that ISCM not configurable with I/A
Series 8.7. This limitation resides with I/A Series software, not FSIM Plus.
• FSIM Plus version 4.7 software supports FoxView/FoxDraw (FVFD) version
10.2.3. Other FVFD versions are not supported.
• Foxboro Control Software 3.1 software is not supported with the simulation time
management functionality for InTouch. Simulation components for time
management include simulation support for alarms (CAD) or trends (AIM* /
FAIM). When InTouch HMI is required, it will function without the time
management. Due to this limitation, alarms will not restore in a snapshot and
trends will flat-line when the model is frozen.

FSIM Plus 4.7 Software Compatibility

FSIM Plus 4.7 software is compatible only with the following software:
• OS images for Windows XP SP3 or Windows Server 2003 SP2 as delivered with
P90/P91/P92 or found at buyautomation.com
• I/A Series version 8.7 software
• FoxView/FoxDraw 10.2.3 software
• DYNSIM 4.5.x software
TRISIM Plus 2.1 software (with TriStation 1131 v4.0-4.9 software)

AW requires the I/A Series 8.7 software to be purchased with the hardware. The FSIM Plus machine
requires only the P90, P91, or P92 computer, but must be installed with the I/A software prior to
installing FSIM Plus. The FSIM Plus computer can be installed using the AW software purchased
with the AW. Additional licensing is not required, unless the FSIM Station is used as an AW to view
FoxView or additional Detail Displays.

Note: The FSIM Plus 4.7 software must be installed on the AW computer.

Foxboro Control Software (FCS) Support

FSIM Plus 4.7 software will support control block emulation in Foxboro Control Software 3.1,
formerly titled InFusion. Note that FCSSIM 3.0 is compatible with FCS 3.0, I/A Series 8.6, and FSIM
Plus 4.6 only and is not compatible with I/A Series 8.7 software nor FSIM Plus 4.7 software due to this
limitation. InFusionView / InTouch trends and Process Alarms will not respond to changes in
simulated time for simulator actions such as snapshots, freeze/run in Foxboro Control Software 3.1.
There are a number of restrictions in the application of Foxboro Control Software , such as certain
functions and packages must run on dedicated servers and that some systems must use Windows 2003
based servers rather than XP workstations. Following is a list of operational recommendations:
• The Galaxy Repository should reside on its own dedicated P90/P91, Windows 2003 Server
• The Wonderware Historian should be on its own dedicated P90/P91, Windows 2003 Server
• Wonderware Historian Client for the Wonderware Historian Server should be on its own
dedicated P92, Windows XP or P90/P91 Windows 2003 machine. This machine should NOT
be used as an operator workstation.
• Each operator workstation should use a P90, P91, or P92 workstation. P90/P91 workstations
support a single monitor only. P92 workstations support multi-screen.
• If required, dedicated P92 workstations should be used for any custom App Objects.
• A dedicated P92 workstation should be used for any additional IO / DA Servers.
• If required, a dedicated P90/P91 workstation should be used for running Suite Voyager.

Invensys provides a number of example FCS configurations that adhere to the above operational
recommendations in the Foxboro Control Software Deployment Guide, B0750BA.

Note that while the example configurations show FCS running on a different workstation than the
operator workstation running either Wonderware InTouch software or FoxView software, it is possible
to run them on the same workstation.
Note: Invensys does NOT support a single box setup for an FCS platform. For non-FCS I/A
Series configurators, FSIM Plus simulators with less than 6 CPs, single box configurations
have been used with limitations in performance.

FSIM Plus 4.7 Software Installation

FSIM Plus 4.7 requires that Activation Manager 1.0 be pre-installed. You may install Activation
Manager 1.0 separately or install the DYNSIM 4.5.x software full infrastructure. DYNSIM 4.5.x
software installer includes the Activation Manager 1.0 components. Refer to the DYNSIM 4.5.x
Release notes for installation details.

Pre-Install Checklist
This section lists the most common obstacles encountered by users when installing FSIM Plus. Before
you begin a new FSIM Plus install:

1. FSIM Plus software does not support having multiple versions of FSIM Plus installed
on the same machine.
2. FSIM Plus software (Dynamic Simulation Suite) does NOT support 64 bit operating
systems, Windows XP Home Edition, XP Starter Edition, ME, and Windows 98.

FSIM Plus 4.7 software must run on an I/A P90, P91, or P92 purchased from the
BuyAutomation and pre-installed with I/A partitioning and I/A users.

3. I/A Series 8.5 and 8.7 software must be installed before installing FSIM Plus 4.7
software, Activation Manager 1.0 or DYNSIM 4.5 software.
4. DYNSIM 4.5 software and/or Activation Manager 1.0 may be installed prior to, or after,
installing FSIM Plus 4.7 software. If installing DYNSIM, select the DYNSIM installer
option FSIM Plus/TRISIM Plus Core infrastructure installation option to create the
FSIM menu items in the DYNSIM user interface.
5. FSIM Plus software install testing has been performed only on I/A released operating
system media.
Microsoft Windows XP PRO SP3 – US English
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 – US English
Operating systems not explicitly tested are currently not supported.
6. Machine names should only include characters (A to Z) and (0 to 9). The machine
name must be six digits, all capital letters (i.e., ESS123).
7. If you have a firewall installed, it may interfere with the DSS Activation Service
Manager. You will need to put the firewall in "learning mode" the first time you start
up FSIM Plus or allow it to start various FSIM Plus processes with dynamic port
addresses. Note: Windows XP and Server 2003 include a Firewall/Internet Connection
Sharing (ICS) service that will interfere with the FSIM Plus services.
8. Data Execution Prevention may cause DYNSIM services and installer to be unreliable.
The options may be controlled from System Properties (right click on my computer)
Select: Advanced Tab -> Performance Options->Settings->Data Execution Prevention
Tab. The options are:

CR and feature Description

SC2#120 There is a new command line argument for engines, -

minimum_cycle_time X, where X is in milliseconds. The
problem is that some engines are completing their calculation
cycle and sending their XREF data before other engines even
receive the command to start the cycle. The command line
argument ensured that an engine takes some minimum amount
of time before it sends its XREF data. Note that if the engine
calculations already take longer than the minimum time no extra
time is added
