Dear Nurse Recruiter:

My name is Kristen and I am interested in applying for Nurse Residency Program. I am currently a
student at the University of Arizona and will be graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in
May 2019. Throughout my experience in nursing school, I have worked with various interdisciplinary
teams to provide exceptional care to the patients with whom I come in contact. I admire this hospital’s
vision to make every community, neighborhood, and life whole and healthy. Above all, I appreciate their
focus on body, mind, and spirit being a part of one’s health and wellness.

During my last semester of nursing school, I was able to complete my preceptorship in a neurological
intensive care unit. I was able to learn how to care for critically ill patients who required extensive
monitoring and procedures. I assisted with procedures such as tracheostomy placement, intubation and
extubation, external ventricular drain placement, a thoracentesis, and arterial line placements. The
preceptorship allowed me to improve my critical thinking and time management skills. I was able to
communicate with hospital intensivists, respiratory therapists, and other nurses to establish patient
priorities and plans of care. My preceptor, several other nurses on the unit, intensivists, and charge nurses
have stated how impressed they are with my abilities to prioritize my patients’ plan of care and my ability
to communicate effectively. Although I developed many new skills during my preceptorship, I am eager
to learn more throughout my career and work towards becoming the best possible nurse that I can be for
my patients.

Another positive healthcare experience includes having the opportunity to volunteer with Phoenix
Children’s Hospital from 2011 to 2017. During this time, I was able to become familiar with the hospital
and witness the care that the patients received. The collaboration within the interdisciplinary teams helped
to create a positive healing environment for the patients and enhanced their recovery process. I was able
to volunteer in the dialysis center for about 8 months and remembered how they focused on the needs of
the child first while incorporating the family into the plan of care, as well. This experience has had a
significant impact on my view of healthcare and my desire to be a nurse.

In conclusion, I would like to work for this hospital and join their Nurse Residency Program. I believe the
facility would be a great fit for me because of my hard-working nature, ability to therapeutically
communicate with patients, dedication to nursing as a professional career, and eagerness to learn new
things. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Kristen Youtsey
