I trust that each of you and your families are enjoying this Easter Season. Spring
has sprung and once again we all are very busy. The Council was busy with
Membership Drives, a Food Drive, 1st & 2nd Degrees, Charity book sales, the
Lenten Supper and more. Thank you to all of our members who volunteered and
worked so hard to make each event a success. Some cooked, some sat out in
the cold, or carried boxes of food, recruited new members, prayed together at
the supper and much more. Your efforts are appreciated by those we helped and
will bear results.
This May we will also be busy with nearly 20 dates of activity. Please review the
St. Jude, Pray for Us Upcoming Events list inside this Beacon and select which event you can make.
The Celebrate Life Social is Friday May 17th and looks to be another good
evening of fun at the Council.
In service Be sure to participate in the Marian Hour of Prayer (5/16), The Council
to one. Communion Breakfast (5/19) and later the KofC Pilgrimage to Our Lady of the
In service Island Shrine (5/19). It is nice that we have more opportunity to gather and pray
during this Easter Season.
to all.
Still there is our charitable efforts to attend. The increased focus on our parishes
is helping. We have distributed an Easter donation of $1,000 to each of the three
parishes. This is in addition to the Christmas gift of $1,000 to each and the
Religious Ed. of $500 (matched by the NYS KofC). All three Pastors were very
grateful to St. Jude Council. Knowing this makes it a little easier to attend the
Charity book sales to raise money for Charity.
Important Note: I mentioned last month that the Council will resume meeting
twice a month with socials and events on Fridays or Saturdays. This will better
help us to manage and plan for our Council activities for the upcoming month.
This month we will proceed with 1st (5/01) & 3rd (5/15) Wednesday business
meetings, our Celebrate Life Social is on Friday night 5/17.
Vivat Jesus,
The mercy of God will always be greater than our sins, and this is what we contemplate in the mystery
of the Virgin Mary. She plays a very important role in introducing us to God’s mercy, which is his deepest
attribute. Mary did not sin, but in the Magnificat she sang of the mercy of God (cf. Lk 1:46-55). God’s
mercy is a grace given to Mary in advance, by merit of the sacrifice of the cross. The effusion of mercy
that springs forth from the cross, from the very heart of Christ, is what purified Mary.
Everything is given and everything comes from the mercy of God, not from our merit but from the free
love of God. Mary is the richest of all creatures, the holiest and the most beautiful, but also the humblest
and poorest because she knows that she has received everything from God.
We see in the Gospels that the mercy of God is the greatest mystery and the most beautiful treasure.
However, we have a difficult time accepting it because we really have very little trust in God’s forgiveness.
This attitude can come about for certain reasons. Perhaps it has to do with human psychology, but
without a doubt, there is a lack of trust. We don’t really believe in this reality of the forgiveness of God,
and so we don’t always fully welcome it. God forgives us, but we can’t forgive ourselves.
We have difficulty accepting that we have to depend on the mercy of God. We would like to save
ourselves. We would like to be our own richness — to be rich based on our good actions and qualities.
To receive everything from the mercy of God — to accept that God is our source of richness and not
ourselves — requires a great poverty of heart.
Sometimes it’s good that we rejoice when we have accomplished great things. But in the moments
Hail Mary, full of grace, where we feel our poverty, we should also rejoice, because the good news is for the poor. Mercy is for
the Lord is with you. those who need it, who feel profoundly that they cannot save themselves. Our only hope is not through
our own works; it’s hope in the infinite mercy of God.
Blessed are you among women,
Mary can help us open our hearts and eyes to the needs of our brothers and sisters. She motivates us
and blessed is the fruit to acts of love and mercy through her maternal grace. Her tenderness and love has the force of faith. It
of your womb, Jesus. can be compared to an army ready for battle. She’s strong against evil, but with an inner peace and
tenderness that she transmits to us.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now, Let us ask for the grace to welcome Mary into our hearts, to give ourselves to her so she can give us
what she has received from God. She will give us limitless trust, faith, humility, hope and thanksgiving,
and at the hour of our death. along with her loving and attentive gaze and the goodness that is so deep within her. By practicing all
Amen. of this with Mary, she will ask for what we need.
