SAFETY Common Safety compliance is not difficult
If you only do the work you were trained to do, you Sense already have the knowledge and skill to do it safely. Don’t try to overthink things, use common sense. 1) Remind your co-workers about safety procedures and equipment 2) Pay attention during safety training programmes and meetings 3) Know what to do in case of an emergency 4) Ask questions when you don’t understand 5) Don’t fool around or show off on the job 6) Don’t let anger; frustration or personal problems interfere with your work 7) Don’t ignore a safety hazard 8) Don’t become overconfident with jobs you’ve done many times 9) Don’t use equipment in ways they were not intended 10) Don’t get pressured by others into ignoring safety procedures 11) Don’t take shortcuts on the job 12) Don’t assume safety is someone else’s job HEALTH Cholesterol Cholesterol is made by your body and found in some foods. It's essential for good health and is found in every cell in your body. But having a high level of a certain type of cholesterol in your blood can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease, such as heart disease and stroke. 1) High cholesterol doesn’t cause any symptoms itself. But if you have it, it can lead to serious problems affecting your heart and circulation, such as heart attack and/or stroke. 2) High cholesterol is often caused by a number of factors, a. having a diet high in saturated fat, cholesterol and trans fats b. not doing much exercise c. being overweight or obese d. drinking too much alcohol 3) Get tested at your local clinic ENVIRONMENT Save Water South Africa is in the grips of a severe drought. You can make a difference before it is too late. 1) Report or repair every water leak immediately. A dripping tap can waste 15 liters of water a day, or 5,500 liters of water a year. 2) Turn off the tap when you brush your teeth – this can save 6 liters of water per minute. 3) Fill a jug with tap water and place this in your fridge. This will mean you do not have to leave the cold tap running for the water to run cold before you fill your glass. 4) Place a cistern displacement device in your toilet cistern to reduce the volume of water used in each flush. You can get one of these from your water provider.
