Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: My Feelings Matter

Objectives:
Students will be able to determine their own feelings.
Students will be able to understand what to do with these feelings and emotions.
State Standards:

 Goal APL-6: Children use a variety of strategies to solve problems.

 Goal HPD-6: Children develop awareness of their needs and the ability to
communicate their needs.

Context: This particular lesson is very important for this age group, three to five years old,
because these students are being introduced to many new things. Before this lesson in the larger
unit is making new friends and talking about how you feel. After this lesson, we will move on to
the correct way of making new friends and respecting others. This lesson in particular pertains to
the rest of time due to having emotions all of the time.
Data: In this lesson, the students will be grouped by table, just because it makes it easier for
transitioning.
Materials: Paint, paper with a face on it, the classroom computers, word worksheet, and the
smart board.

Detailed paragraphs from here on down.

Procedures:
Introduction (10 minutes): Students will be sitting at the carpet while I read a short story,

Llama Llama Mad at Mama. Once the story is finished, the students and I will discuss the

different emotions the Llama has throughout the story and what they mean. Because the blending

learning is a thing we do on a daily basis, the students will just have to understand the directions.
I will then explain the different expectations from the students in each group they are in. Once

students understand, I will split my few students into their group, and we will branch off.

Teacher Directed (15 minutes): In the group I will be directing, we will start back with

the book we read as a class, just going over what happened in the book as a refresher for the

students after branching off. Then we will watch a video, on the smartboard, of the different

emotions we can experience, and the students have to guess which one the character is

experiencing. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOkyKyVFnSs). After the video, the students

will be handed a work sheet which has different feeling in dotted letters for which the students

can trace to work on their letter and spelling. As they are doing the worksheet, I will just be

talking to my group to see how their day is going and what makes them happy or sad, to get them

talking about their feelings.

Collaborative (15 minutes): In the collaborative group, the students will be able to paint a

picture of how they are feeling today. The students will be communicating and working together.

They can ask each other how they are feeling and just have conversations and make friedns with

their classmates. The students will paint a picture of what they are feeling. They will be giving

three colors, red, blue, and yellow representing the three emotions; happy, sad and mad.

Independent Digital (15 minutes): In the independent digital work station, the students

will hop on the classroom computers and play an Inside Out Matching Game. The game will

already be pulled up for the students to have easy access. This is an independent work; therefore,
the students are expected to stay quite while working. On the game, it is matching pictures from

the movie of different characters and emotions the characters are felling. This will benefit the

students by having them be interactive on the computer to work on some skills and to work with

emotions we experience. http://www.crazygames.com/game/inside-out-memory

Closure (10 minutes): Once we have made it through all of the work stations, we will

clean up our areas and make our way back to the carpet. At the carpet, we will discuss what we

have learned about emotions and feelings and how we should handle them. If we are mad, we

walk away and more. As a class, we will then stand up and dance it out to get wiggle out of our

system and move onto the next thing in line for the day.

Rationale:
(Multimedia 1= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOkyKyVFnSs): This is considered
multimedia because it is a video I can present to the class and evolve it with something
else. It supports the student learning because it prompts the students in a fun interactive
way. It supports my learning objectives because it is prompting the students about feeling
and emotions, which they will be able to do so when they are talking to a friend.
Referring back to the bullet point from the PowerPoint, this multimedia choice
differentiate instruction for all learners by motivating them in a group of students. Being
in a group while being prompt is motivating, the students will want to answer with the
correct answer before the other students.
(Multimedia 2=http://www.crazygames.com/game/inside-out-memory.): This piece is
something I want to use with the students because it is a fun and interactive way to
practice their computer, problem solving, and quite skills. It supports the student
learning just because it is also prompting the students to find a match of the different
emotion cards. This also converts to identifying the feelings to relate to my objectives.
Referring to the bullet points in the PowerPoint, this multimedia choice helps with some
learning goals the student may have. Like said before, the students will be sat at a
computer and asked to stay quiet. There are many things the student can have a goal for
dealing with computer skills or just general skills.
