 Location
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United
Kingdom or Britain is a sovereign country lying off the north-western coast of the European
mainland. The United Kingdom includes the island of Great Britain, the north-eastern part of the
island of Ireland and many smaller islands. Northern Ireland is the only part of the United
Kingdom that shares a land border with another sovereign state—the Republic of Ireland. Apart
from this land border, the United Kingdom is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with the North
Sea to its east, the English Channel to its south and the Celtic Sea to its south-south-west. With
an area of 242,500 square kilometres (93,600 sq mi), the United Kingdom is the 78th-largest
sovereign state in the world.

 Population, president, capital

The current population of the United Kingdom is 66,668,705 as of Saturday, based on the latest
United Nations estimates. The United Kingdom population is equivalent to 0.87% of the total
world population.
The UK is a constitutional monarchy with parliamentary democracy, meaning that the monarch
(currently Queen Elizabeth II) is the Head of State, and the Prime Minister (currently Theresa
May) is the Head of the Government. The United Kingdom doesn't have a president, England
has a prime minister, Theresa May.
London is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Is is one of the
leading global cities in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare,
media, professional services, research and development, tourism and transportation. It is the world's
largest financial centre.
 Official language and climate

The official language of the United Kingdom is English, which is spoken by approximately 59.8
million residents, or 98% of the population, over the age of three.
In general there are warm summers and cool winters. Summers are cooler than those on the
continent, but the winters are milder. The overall climate in England is called temperate
maritime. This means that it is mild with temperatures not much lower than 0ºC in winter and not
much higher than 32ºC in summer.

 Gastronomy
British cuisine is the set of cooking traditions and practices associated with the United Kingdom.
However, British cuisine has absorbed the cultural influence of those who have settled in Britain,
producing many hybrid dishes, such as chicken tikka masala.
UK food but also English 'modern' cuisine is becoming more popular these days. While most British
people eat a lot of pasta, pizza and dishes influenced by Indian and Chinese cultures - like curries
and stir fries – some of the old favorites are still on the menu, even if they’re not eaten every day.
 Festival Saint Patrick´s Day

St Patrick's Day occurs on March 17. It is a national holiday in Ireland and commemorates one of its
patron saints, St Patrick. In the United Kingdom, it is celebrated in Irish pubs and in cities, such as
Nottingham and London where many people with an Irish background live.

St Patrick's Day is a public holiday in Northern Ireland, where it is a day off for the general population, and
schools and most businesses are closed.
A whole week of celebrations is organized around St Patrick's Day in London. These include a parade
and a festival held close to, but not always on, March 17.Together, the parade and festival allow people to
experience many aspects of Irish culture including food, crafts, dance and music.
