I would like to take a moment of your time to discuss my portfolio and tell you what this means
to me as a whole. The portfolio on my weekly page show who I am as a person and shows how
I've grown throughout the school year into what I am now. The writings in this portfolio shows
the things I care about and shows a few of the views that I have. The work I have put into this
school year means a lot to me because of where I started from and where I have ended up. At the
beginning of the year I was placed in your supplement class not knowing the first thing about
writing. You did what no teacher could which was care about whether I succeeded in life.
Making my writing better was one of your top priorities and I can’t thank you enough for that.
Thanks to you went Im writing essay my stress is at a minimal just because I was shown the
steps to take in order for my paper to be decent.
Furthermore, I would like to discuss the writings that I have chosen and the reasons that I have
chosen them. The writings that I have chosen are all from your comp 1 class. I have chosen them
because I blew this os the best way to show how much I’ve grown as a writer . On my portfolio
my essays are in order from beginning of the semester to the end. My first essay is the worse
collegiate essay I’ve ever written in my opinion simply because I still didn’t know much about
writing a paper but, I was writing about my life back home so it made the essay a tad easier. The
second essay was a little bit better because of progress I had been making in writing supplement.
Getting to third paper it felt like I had went all the way back to step one. I had a hard time
writing this paper because of the research portion but, I did better than I thought I would. Making
our way to the fourth paper I felt like this was the easiest essay of the semester because I felt like
I was prepared.
To add on, crafting my writing process had a big impact on how my papers would turn out when
I was finished. Before learned how to properly write a paper I used to just write off the top of my
head and then I would just edit it later. Now I brainstorm and write outlines so when its time to
write it makes the process much easier. When I reflect back I believe that my supplement class
did a lot more for my writing than my comp class did. You brought me back to techniques that I
O’Neal 2
learned when I was younger and helped me perfect those things. Also you showed me what an
outline was for, how to transition my paragraphs , and even how to correctly use a comma. I
must say that I wasn’t completely clueless I had some strengths but I had a substantial amount of
weaknesses.
The strengths I had at the beginning were my ability to structure an essay and my grammar and
mechanics in my opinion which you can see in my first two essays . The few weakness I will say
are most important are the flow of my essay and how I conclude them which you can see I how I
struggled with that on all of my essays.
Sincerely,
Nickelas O’Neal
