ARTIFACT: Technology Workshop Structured Field Experience Log

The Technology Workshop was completed in the ITEC 7460 PL & Technology Innovation
course. This field experience involved developing a 1 hour workshop for teachers at Hamilton E.
Holmes ES and Liberty Point ES. In lieu of developing a traditional face-to-face workshop, a
self-paced workshop was developed that included self-assessments and digital resources for
teachers to work at their own pace. This artifact was a digital workshop developed with Google
Slides and Google Forms. It was designed to support third through fifth grade teachers
transitioning to using Google Classroom with their students. The self-paced workshop also
allowed them to connect with the material at their own pace whenever they were comfortable.
Google Slides and Forms were used because of their ability to be shared through multiple
mediums and collect data. After consulting with the instructional coaches and administrative
team for input, the digital workshop was developed independently

The description, knowledge, and dispositions sections of the field log experience indicate what I
learned from this experience. In order to develop this workshop, it was necessary to address a
wide variety of needs. I had to create a user friendly interface, introductory content, and
extensions for those were ready to dive deeper. While developing this workshop, I had the
teachers who knew the least about Google Classroom in mind. As teachers worked through each
module, they were provided with opportunities to learn how to navigate the Google Classrooms
platform, troubleshoot nuances they may encounter, and how to use it as a repository for
learning content. In order to create this space, it was essential that I knew potential pain-points,
solutions, workarounds, and alternatives for teachers.

Creating the technology workshop on a digital platform was a challenging task in the beginning,
because it required a great deal of thought and preparation between curating resources, building a
platform, and sharing it with teachers to use appropriately. The best part of the workshop was
receiving continuous feedback on its usefulness and ways to improve it on-the-fly. Once I
received permission to complete this workshop digitally, I was ecstatic to step outside of the box.
I was very intentional about reaching out to intermediate teachers within both environments to
receive feedback. My angst developed around whether or not teachers would be receptive to
completing the online workshop versus a face-to-face experience because it was not the norm. If
there were opportunities to make changes with this artifact, I would dive deeper into other
components of G Suite for Education to create additional digital learning spaces for teachers.
Through this experience, I remained optimistic and plan to produce more content similar to this
tool to provide teachers with the flexibility to learn at their own pace. Overall, teachers
appreciated this opportunity to learn and earn certificates on their own.

Based on the feedback that I received, teachers found learning the basics about Google
Classroom to be beneficial. Google Classroom provides a content management system for
teachers and students and many were enthusiastic about planning for the upcoming school year.
My hope is that each school utilizes the tool consistently for it to be most effective. Based on the
reception of the online workshop, I plan to continue to create similar resources to continue to
support teachers. I also plan to follow-up with teachers (as indicated by the feedback provided in
the Google Form) for personalized support.
