Music should not be taught in schools.

Instead other subjects such as computers and

science should be taught. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

As the result of the recent ongoing changes in the ways we deliver education, the role of
different subjects in school curricula is being widely discussed all over the world nowadays.
There are some people claiming that the time for music to be a subject taught in schools is
over and educational facilities should teach more scientifically oriented subjects instead. I
find this view to be erroneous and unproductive, as music can still provide a lot for those,
who study it.
First of all, it seems to be important to mention, that music is an important part of culture of
every society. If we want the youth to become better integrated in the society they are
coming from, to know its backgorund and share its values , we ought to be sure that they
have the knowledge of its arts and music. Thus the role of music in bringing up the meber of
the society is pivotal.
The second reason, that makes me consider music to be a significant subject, lies in the
special power of music to influence the psychological development of the person. Music can
be a driving force for the appropriate and balanced maturation of person’s mind, and not only
the occassional contacts with music are important, but the constant and regular immersion in
the world of sounds and melodies is.
Based on these two above-mentioned arguments my point of view towards the teaching of
music in schools is, actually, a firm belief that music should remain in the curricula. Its value
is no less than the value of other subjects, and its significance for the adequate nurturing of
young generation shouldn’t be underestimated.
