“An eye for an eye” is not a good basis for determining an appropriate punishment. First, it

increases violence. People commit crime when they use revenge negatively. Second, the society

should take alternatives of moral values. For example, teach a lesson making criminals do

community service, or throw them in prison. At last, it is important to be peaceful. When people

practice “an eye for an eye” philosophy, the number of people that die increases unnecessarily in

the society. In conclusion, people should not use “an eye for an eye” as a penalty.
