Cigarettes in Health

Cigarettes are addictive substance, why is it called addictive substances? Because cigarettes
can cause addiction and dependency for people to suck it, because of that cigrettes are called
drugs (narcotics, psychotropc, alcohol, and addictive substances). The danger of smoking is
caused by the contents of the cigarettes. Indeed not all smokers will experience heart disease,
lung cancer, or stroke, but smoking can be very detrimental to health. The dangers of smoking
that can be felt everyday are coughing, shortness of breath, more easily tired, more
susceptible to infection, or having a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty breathing at
night then feeling tired in the morning.

Cigarettes in Economics

Indonesia is the fourth biggest cigarettes consument in the world. 4,14% of cigarettes
consumed in the world is by Indonesian people. Statistics shows that 36% of the total
population in Indonesia are smoker. In Indonesia, smoking has killed approximately 225.000
thousand people every year. And approximately 97 millions of people in Indonesia sniff the
smoke of cigarettes.

The Impact of Smoking to Indonesia Country

The impact of smoking consist of lifestyle, health, and economic.

Most of Indonesian youth thinks smoking is a cool habit. Actually, they don’t know
how cigarettes infect their life. In fact, smoking can decrease their term of life. The younger
you start smoking the sooner you get bad effect of smoking. Smoking can infect your health
condition. Example of disease caused by smoking are TBC, impotent, lung cancer, liver
cancer, heart disease, stroke, etc. So for the sake of your own life DO NOT SMOKE starting
from now on.

Sadly, cigarettes has very big contribution on our country’s income. For example,
tobacco is one of Indonesia most important comodities. In 2007, Indonesia get 5th place of
the biggest tobacco exportier in the world. Furthermore, excise income from cigarettes import
is very high and crucial for national economic states. Although the economic side shows that
cigarettes have a big impact on the income of Indonesia, data shows that the loss for our
country that is related with cigarettes is bigger than the benefits. It includes the cost for health
problems that is caused by cigarettes.

Central Bureau of statistics of Indonesia stated that in March 2015, the poor people
in Indonesia chooses to spend more money on cigarettes than on education. The expenditure
contribution for cigarettes by the poor in the cities is 8,24% and in the villages is 7,07%.
Compared to the expenditure contribution for education is only 2,46% in the cities and 1,39%
in the villages.

Ironically, the huge benefits from cigarettes obtained by sacrificing our young
generation. We need to make a rules to restrain cigarettes using in order to decrease our
young smoker. Goverment shouldn’t be happy with the big earning in cigarettes trade if the
youth are still smoking. It’s not good if you earned Rp 2 Billions from cigarettes trade but
ironically you would have paid Rp 40 Billion to cure your people.
