To Whom It May Concern:

Karli Basakos was my student during her 10 week psychiatric/mental health nursing clinical
rotation last semester. As a clinical instructor/lecturer with fifty years experience in various
psych nursing areas, I have a unique opportunity to become acquainted with my students as
individuals. Since they're learning to use their own personalities as a therapeutic tool, I try to
help them get to know themselves more in depth and as members of a team on our four unit
inpatient facility. During our psych rotation, they also experience working with older adults,
pediatric therapy services, and intensive adult outpatient services. My goal for them is to
practice interpersonal relationship skills that can be generalized and applied to any nursing
endeavor they choose.

Initially, Karli Basakos was one of the quietest clinical students I had ever had, but Karli proved
once again that "still waters run deep". As the semester continued, Karli became one of the
more analytically accurate and articulate of the bunch, and, lo and behold, an excellent writer as
well! We talked about this evolution, and, as it turned out, her leadership style followed the
same path - subtle role modeling to more overt recognition by other students of her wealth of
knowledge.

Now the usual (but true) description of the strengths and attributes that Karli will bring to your
organization: 1) a broad and in depth nursing knowledge base; 2) highly developed
technical/technology abilities; 3) excellent verbal/written communication skills and finally; 4) an
appreciation of the value of the continued application of evidenced-based nursing practice.

So, before you interview Karli, review her resume - pretty impressive - in form as well as
content. According to Karli, the quality of her preceptorship in oncology was such that she
might want to pursue that specialty. However, as is true of many new grad, Karli is highly
motivated to get out there in the real healthcare world and help patients and families by applying
the above skill set. So give Karli an opportunity to display the inner calmness that's at her core,
her quick smile, and her warm nurturing manner. Just the kind of nurse you would want taking
care of you and just the kind of nurse we would hope to be the face of nursing leadership in the
future.

Sincerely,

Susan Markovich, RN, MSN

Clinical Instructor
