data are given P = 20 kN and Q = 8 kN, r0 = 100 mm, r2 = 50 mm and a = 200 mm, 𝛼𝛼 = 60°.

5 A driving pulley of 1 m diameter running at 200 rpm drives a shaft @ 600 rpm. Determine the width of the
belt to transmit 20 kW power when minimum wrap angle 160°, coefficient of friction 0.27, weight density
of the belt 12 kN/m3, thickness of the belt 14 mm and allowable tension in the belt 2.1 MPa.

8 A stuntman likes to cross the ditch as shown, in figure below. Find the minimum velocity required at
point P. Also determine the direction and magnitude of velocity of the stuntman just at the instant of
clearing the ditch.

10 (a) Determine the stiffness of a vertical spring attached with a 50 N weight and vibrating vertically. The
weight makes 4 oscillations per second.
(b) Determine the period of vibration for both the cases as shown in figure below.

11 The weight of an empty railway wagon is 240 kN. On loading it with goods weighting 320 kN, its springs
get compressed by 80 mm. Calculate the period of vibration in both the cases. The empty wagon is set
into natural vibration with amplitude of 100 mm. Calculate the velocity when its displacement is 40 mm
from the position of statical equilibrium.
