Student Writing Reflection Sheet

Name: Giselle Arredondo Period: 3 Date: 1/25/2019

Class: Senior English Teacher: Nancy Figueroa

Assignment Title: Q2 Mid-Unit- Beowulf Values

Student Writing Goal: My writing goal is to score a 95% or higher on all assessments and score a “3” in the statement
of focus category. I want to achieve my teacher expectations in this assignment.

What was the purpose of this writing assignment?

The purpose of this writing assignment was to understand “Beowulf Values” in the middle ages and the epic
hero there have been many grand stories about grat warriors, and champions; those about epic heroes,
monsters, good and evil. Its purpose is to demonstrate the types of characters presented in the anonymously
written Anglo-Saxon poem This resume will allow me to be prepared to analize upcoming poems like
“Beowulf. “I will be able to use this paper as a base for my next essays.

How did you perform in relation to the expectations of the writing rubric?
I feel that my essay needed more grammar work and argumentation. Although I have never did an essay like
this before, I know I could have probably ask for help or tutoring to improve it or read related essays, movies,
or interviews as an example but I did not, so I should have included anything that might have helped me.. As
far as grammar, I could have definitely proof-read my work a lot more. I also should have stayed
concentrated throughout my Beowulf essay and do it more formal and entertaining.

What aspect of this piece did you do well? (give example/quotes to support claims)
I like my body paragraph and conclusion, since I added a lot of personal opinion and significant quotes of the
characters, which is about a Germanic tribe that occupied the region of Schleswig Holstein, Germany. They
believed in the same God as the Vikings. Anglo-Saxon culture values are the principles that influence and
shape the everyday life of a citizen. I believe my objective was interesting and entertaining. It shows the epic
poem of Beowulf relating the story of a fighting man that transmits a message full of teachings and values as
bravery, loyalty, and heroic spirit. We have to be brave because who does not risk, don’t know what could
happen.

Why have you/haven’t you chosen to revise this writing assignment?

I decide to review it to fix few grammatical stuff of the essay that could improve my writing. Also, my
Beowulf essay needed to be more organized.

What will you do better in your next writing assignment, and how will I do it?
I was looking over my work now and reflecting on this essay, of course. I did all work that was supposed to
be done on time, following prompts, but I failed on my grammar. However, now I see how important this
resume is because it could set me up for all future essay analysis. Had I taken this essay seriously the first
time, it would have made it easier on me in the future to continue adding content to it. I could have taken
advantage of this assignment and taken advantage of my teachers’ input. In the future, I will take all writing
assignments serious to avoid bad grades and improve my grammar development.

To what degree of success did you achieve your previously stated goal(s)?
My goal was to score a 100% on all assessments and I did not reach that goal with this assignment. I scored a
70%. After proof-reading for the first time, I had a lot of grammar mistakes. My essay used a lot of first
person in a few sentences. Honestly, I did not follow my teacher’s expectations about to use MLA Format
and not use first person in my work. I do not want to feel as a bad grammar. After re-reading my cover letter,
I realized that I needed to fix my mistakes to change my grade because that was affecting me so bad. I know
that I need to read the prompts over and over again until I stay concentrated on every subject.
