Unit 3 Statement of Goals and Choices

For my Unit 3 assignment, I chose to take my Unit 2 project and make it better and go more in

depth. I chose this route over starting over with something new because I am very passionate and

involved in this scene. I felt that it is very important to spread this information to hopefully speed

up the change that is needed.

Just like in Unit 2, my subject for Unit 3 is on gender equality in athletics. My goal was mainly

to educate both the male and female population so they can see things from a different

perspective. The first problem on this topic is actually acknowledging there is inequality; if

nothing else, I want to bring to attention this inequality. Another goal that I was hoping to

achieve was to get girls in the mindset that they should be able to play any sport they want to,

even if it has been classified as a “male dominant sport.” We need to fight for gender equality in

athletics.

I started my presentation by introducing the inequality because not many people even recognize

that there is anything wrong with the current system. Now that I have the audience thinking, I

wanted to give examples of some of the benefits that participating in athletics has on women and

girls. I brought up facts about the mental, emotional, and physical health of girls who play sports

to invoke some emotion from the audience.

I wanted to bring up the opposite side and basically say, “Yes, we have made progress, but it is

not enough.” I introduced Title IX and gave more information about this legislation and how it
has helped the inequality. After talking about the good, I bring up a few things that could be

changed with Title IX.

I wanted to use more visuals than I did in Unit 2 so it was not as boring and did not seem too

wordy. I changed how I cited my sources so it was more clear where I got my information from.
