Copy of WW2 Timeline

 This is a timeline of all of the events leading to WW2, and all of the important events that occurred within the war, and after it ended.

[1919-1937]

The Treaty of Versailles


After World War 1 had ended, Europe agreed that Germany was the blame for the disaster of the war. This resulted in the Treaty of Versailles,
a document stating that Germany was to blame for the war and that they would have to pay Britain and France in reparations.

The Great Depression


When the stock market crashed in the United States, Germany lent them money instead of paying reparations. When Britain and France
heard of this, they were angered and this resulted in Germany losing more money.

The Great Depression

Hitler Becomes Chancellor of Germany


Germany had become restless and unable to pay back reparations. One soldier named Adolf Hitler rose to the top and convinced everyone
that with him in charge, they would not have to pay reparations. He also stated that he would help Germany to once again become "the
greatest nation in the world."

Japan invades China


China had been resisting advancements from Japan, but when Japan finally had a strong military, they were not able to do it anymore. This
resulted in the invasion of China, killing more than 300,000 civilians. This eventually led to America putting an end to their supply of oil.

Hitler invades Poland


For many years, Hitler had been appeased by the English Prime Minister, Neville Chamberlain, for invading land. However, the Prime Minister
had drawn the line at invading Poland. When Hitler ignored him and invaded Poland, the English army was ready to fight, and WW2 began.

The Holocaust
Hitler had a plan to create a super race, and to eradicate all others that were not German. This was focused mainly on the Jews. Shortly after
his rise to power, Hitler ordered that Jews would be sent to concentration camps in order to fulfill his master plan. In the duration of the war,
more than six million Jews were killed in a mass genocide. The Holocaust is remembered today as one of the most horrific events in world
history. Some survivors still recount their stories and provide others with knowledge to ensure that another event like this will not happen
again.

Blitzkrieg
Hitler introduced Germany to a new way of fighting, that included air force tactics. Blitzkrieg, meaning lightning warfare, was used to quickly
take over countries and ensure a win for the German army.

Battle of Britain
Germany launched air attacks on Britain that lasted until the end of October. These attacks were called the Battle of Britain.

The Tripartite Act


Germany, Italy, and Japan signed the Tripartite Act, becoming the Axis powers.

Pearl Harbor
After Japan was cut from America's oil supply, they devised a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the US Naval station in Hawaii. The next day,
the US announced it's entry into the war alongside the Allies.

Pearl Harbor

D-Day
D-Day, otherwise known as the Normandy landings, were the landings of the Allied forces in Nazi occupied France. This resulted in a victory
for the Allies, but with several casualties and a very traumatizing event for soldiers.

Battle of the Bulge


The Germans had planned another battle with the US soldiers on the coast of the English Channel. The American soldiers fought bravely and
ended up winning the war. This sealed the Germans' fate in the war.

Iwo Jima
The US Marines entered Iwo Jima, a volcanic island that was fought over in the duration of WW2. The US wanted the island to serve as a
base for their Airforce. After a hard fought battle, the US was victorious and claimed the island.

Hitler Dies
After learning that Germany was losing the war, Hitler shot himself. Shortly after, Germany surrendered and the Nazi reign was over.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki


Although Germany had surrendered, the US was still at war with Japan. The US had developed atomic bombs and dropped them on two
towns in Japan, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This decimated both towns and everyone living in them. The nuclear effects of the atomic
bombings are still showing in those who are residing there today.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki

The Nuremberg Trials


The Nuremberg Trials was the trying of German officials for their crimes in WW2 and in the Holocaust. All of the most important German
officials were tried and either put in prison or sentenced to death.

Japan Surrenders
After the bombings, the Japanese surrendered to the Americans and stopped participating in the war. This was the official end to WW2.

Post-War
People all over the world rejoiced as they learned about the end of the war. Remaining soldiers returned home and the Jews in the camps
were freed by the Allies. In this time period, people were already starting to rebuild structures and towns that had been destroyed in the war.
