Some more thoughts on the methods section of your paper from:

Markham, Annette N. & Baym, Nancy K. “Question Six: What Constitutes Quality in Qualitative
Internet Research?”Internet Inquiry: Conversations About Method. Sage Publications, 2009,
pgs 173-197.

Quality methodology is based on the following strengths:

1. Grounded in theory and data
2. Demonstrates rigor data collection and analysis.
3. Multiple strategies to obtain data.
4. Takes into account the perspective of participants.
5. Shows awareness of self-reflexivity regarding the research process.
6. Takes into account interconnections between the internet and real world.

The following counter-arguments should be considered when drafting the methods section:
1. How do I know this isn’t opinion?
2. How do I know you didn’t just go in and find what you expected to find?
3. How do I know you didn’t cherry pick examples?
4. How is this different from an anecdote?

Research quality can be seen as a rhetorical matter or persuading others by effectively

addressing all potential questions within the research and its presentation. The documenting
process provides the tools for self-reflection. This includes writing down what we see when
observing the site, and going back to this data to reflect and consider our reactions to them.
This reflexive practice provides the means to concretely demonstrate how and why we made
the choices we did.
