chart on Ancient Egypt, drag characteristics to see if they are Egyptian, compare Chinese and
Egyptian culture, use clickers to answer quiz questions, and learn about the influences of Ancient
Egypt.

Activity The purpose of this lesson is to review what information learned

about both the ancient Egyptian culture and ancient Chinese culture
and to emphasize the influences they had on the world.
o The teacher will go over key vocabulary for both societies
that are key to processing the information. Words and terms
such as: Pharaoh, pyramids, papyrus, The Nile River,
mummy, hieroglyphics, emperor.
o Teacher will then call on student volunteers to fill in, using
the pen, portions of the KWL chart. Will stress that even
they do not know everything about the two civilizations.
o We will discuss everything each volunteer put in the chart.
o Next, we will do the “Do I belong in Egypt” activity by calling
on more volunteers to reach behind the pyramids with the
pen and putting each object in the TRUE or FALSE box.
Words such as ‘desert’, a picture of a camel walking through
the pyramids are examples that children will have to
determine, with help, if they belong in Egypt.
o Then we will do the ‘Facts about Egypt’ slide, where
students that have not yet been called on will grab the word
on the left side of the screen and slide it to the right to
reveal more facts about Egypt. For example, they will grab
the phrase ‘Form of writing’, slide it over and reveal the
word ‘hieroglyphics’, which is the Egyptian form of writing.
Pedagogy

o After a few review slides the students will then use their
Smart clickers to answer a review question on the location
of Egypt in the world. The teacher will receive immediate
feedback on accuracy. Then there is a follow-up review slide
detailing the whereabouts of Egypt.
o Then there is a review slide on Pyramids and their
importance to Egyptian culture that the teacher will go over
with the students.
o Skip Slide 10
o The students will again use their clickers to answer the
question about the who the pyramids were built for. Skip
slide 12!
o Next the class will come upon a slide informing them about
Pharaohs while highlighting important ones. Then they will
get a lesson on mummies, a very cool topic, and watch a
short video on the process.
o The class will move on to a slide about Hieroglyphics to
review. Skip slide 16 to move on to another slide, this time
regarding the actual contributions from Egypt such as the
water clock and 365-day calendar that we use even today!
o The students will then do the “Thanks to the Egyptians”
slide, by volunteering to pull items and see if they are actual
contributions of Egypt.
o The class will skip slide 19 and proceed to get their clickers
ready to answer the next 10 slides that have quiz questions
on them.
o After the quiz, we will review correct answers and then re-
do the KWL chart to see what has been learned and
reinforced with this lesson!
