Course Title: First Level Signal Engineer - Fundamentals of Signalling Systems

Course Aims & Scope:

Aim is to develop a competent pool of young Signal Engineers with fundamental engineering knowledge in Railway
Signalling to address the current shortage of such professionals in the region. This training course will allow the
participants to join the Signalling profession and migrate to Design and Construction with some work experience and
further specialized training. This course also aims to accelerate the career development path of the participants as
compared to untrained signal engineers in the industry.

Key Features of the Course:

1. 45 days class room training covering:
i. Fundamental principles of signalling system
ii. Various sub systems and equipment
iii. Basic designs
iv. Installation and maintenance
v. Testing and commissioning
2. Technical visits to actual sites to complement the classroom training

Course Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, the delegate will be able to:
1. Work for Signalling Sector with knowledge in signalling system, signals, single and double line working,
different types of block working and different types of relays, train detection, point machines, interlocking,
cabling and power supply.
2. They will be able to carry out works for installation and maintenance of various equipment and subsystems.
3. To carry out works for ETCS and CBTC, and will know their usage and benefits, overview of subsystems and
communication backbone
4. They will be able to undertake basic works related to diagram and plans used in Signalling.
5. Will have knowledge in methodology of testing of signalling works, various types of testing.

Assessment and Certification

 Theoretical tests carried out at the end of every module.
 Final assessment will contain analysis of a given scenario.
 Certificate will be awarded to participants who pass the final assessment.

Pre-Requisites for entry onto the course (qualifications/experience) :

 Engineers with 0 - 5 years’ of experience in the industry.
 Bachelors of Engineering, Bachelors of Science, Diploma in Engineering (in any relevant fields)
 Knowledge in English
