In the last post I went through how I built massive rapport with two total strangers in a
restaurant using non-verbal mannerisms, eliciting and feeding back core values. If you have
not read the post you can click through and read it here.

In this post we will look at a specific time scramble pattern that you can use to take a feeling
your subject has and spread it through their perception of time. A straight forward use of
this type of pattern might be to make people feel like they have known you for a long time
even though they have only met you moments earlier. Why would this be useful? Well
consider how much more trust and openness you have with the people you have a long
running relationship with.
Let’s start by examining the pattern in isolation. Just imagine what happens if you have got
the pattern tied down so well that you can easily and comfortable get people to imagine that
they are already doing what you want them to do.
The value of a pattern like that would be that your subject is already seeing themselves
taking the actions that you want. Consider how many situations in the past where you could
have made use of that sort of linguistic power and what results you could create for yourself
by using it.
Just imagine what it would be like if you were doing (x) right now.
Just imagine how you feel when you start confidently using such a powerful linguistic
pattern. I think you can already see times in the past where this would be a great pattern to
use, particularly if you can already imagine the results you can create by using it.
If you have not noticed the numerous variations of this pattern I have written out have a read
through the first part of this article a few times until you have got it. In fact if you can already
see yourself using this pattern have a read through the first half of this article just to
recognise the structure, flexibility and ease with which you can use this simple yet powerful
pattern.

In the restaurant story from yesterday we left the situation after I had
built up some very strong rapport and the conversation was really
getting going. As you know from when you are with good friends the
conversation just flows, you lose sense of time and you are just in the
moment enjoying yourself. This is how we were in the restaurant within
a few minutes.
Martin told me that he and John had been mates for years and they usually go out every
couple of weeks to catch up and have a laugh. My response was something like “It’s lucky I
don’t live in Blackpool. Just think about what we would be like after a few years of doing this
every couple of weeks…No…wait…We already have. Tell me what is it like?”
The last one was really interesting because when you read it through there are obvious
confusion points, changes of tenses and a blurring of who I am talking about and whether I
am talking about the past, future or present. In any case the whole thing squeezes internal
representations of me always having been part of the group. Martin’s response was a
moment’s confusion as he tried to process the information and then he starts telling me
about what a great time he is having and that we should end the evening in the pub.
This post should give you enough to see how powerful and flexible a time scramble is as well
as several different examples of them. If you want to know how to use this sort of a pattern
to get your:
Date to imagine what tomorrow would feel like after waking you next to you
Prospect to consider how much better off they are in the future having bought your
product or service
Children to feel good about finishing their homework earlier and having more free time
left
In the next part of this field report on persuasion techniques and restaurants I will show you
how I accidentally set up the preconditions that meant that my two dining companions
would happily pay for my meal.

Bonus Video - Benefits of Trance States
But before you go I thought it would be useful for you to know about trance. This is a short
seven minute video I put together to give you an inside track on Trance States, why they are
useful and how you can induce them with people. Take a look, this is the foundation of being
able to covertly change people's beliefs.
