INTRODUCTION

On-the-job Training is part of a college curriculum that aims to train and

orient students about the work and their future career. It is a type of skill
development where a worker learns how to do the work through hands-on
experience. On the Job Training is one method by which students are exposed
with different work situation designed to give students an opportunity to experience
and a chance to apply the theories and computation that they have learned from
the school. It also helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by
performing in actual work setting.

OJT is very important not only to teach students regarding their chosen
career but also to show students the reality about working. The students will be
exposed to the actual work related to the course that they are taking. It also allows
those with no experience to work and to learn at the same time. On-the-Job
Training helps the trainee to learn more about his chosen field and practice what
he has learned from the school. It helps in the building up of the trainee’s
competence. Of course, when a students is competent enough, he will be able to
do things successfully and. This training develops one’s professionalism in dealing
with people. After the training, the trainee will be able to handle situations properly
and he’ll be able to know how to socialize well with his colleagues. He will also be
able to work well with everyone and he’ll have a good teamwork. OJT also
enhances the critical thinking abilities and discipline of the student conducting his
training in a company. His ability to make sound decisions and evaluate pertinent
factors will be improved.

Having a proper On-the-Job Training helps in the preparation of future

professionals for their future jobs. What the students learned in their On-the-Job
Training, even the little things, can be applied when they are already working.
Students will be trained not only academically but socially as well. The way they
FEATI University
College of Business

work and communicate with others will not be a problem for them anymore. It also
gives the trainee the chance to immerse himself in his chosen field and experience
and learn the skills necessary to the industry he is interested in. Working with
experienced staff, one will be able to observe how the job is done properly.

Aside from work experience, On-the-Job Training allows the trainee to get
acquainted with the real professionals and to meet people having different
positions in the company, either high or low. The trainee will be able to know how
to adjust to other people’s personalities and attitudes. On-the-Job Training requires
effort and seriousness. A trainee should take the OJT seriously as it can be a
powerful tool for a person in preparing for the next chapter of life as a professional.
It can possibly be a source of recommendation when they take that big lift from
being students to career professionals someday.

WEEK 1
On my first day of training, I was very excited and somewhat nervous
because of the new environment and the new people surrounding me. I didn’t have
any idea of what kind of people they are and it made me adjust myself with their
personalities and attitudes.

The very first task given to me was a field task, it was to go to World Citi
Colleges (WCC) with Mr. Karl Del Rosario the team Business Development
Manager and Ms. Sharee Mestosamente one of the teams Academic Linkages
member for a Job Fair, we were welcomed by the college student affairs head, we
were given the task to accommodate the students from the Registration booth to
help disseminate informations about the Job Fair and also for order and peace of
the event this is usually what the employees of Jobs180 do to help their partner
schools for their Job Fairs.

The next day my training supervisor let me chose my table where I will be
staying during my On-the-Job Training. During that moment, I felt that I was really
an office worker having my own office chair and table. The first office task my
supervisor asked me to do is to encode the leads they generate after every Job
Fair they attended, I started on the month of March of 2018.

The next day another field task were given to me, I was asked to join Mr.
Karl Del Rosario in a Job fair held in FEU Institute of Technology. My experience
here was different from my experience in WCC because the event was two days,
the companies that joined the job fair was double the number that attended WCC,
and the population of students is three times bigger than the students who have
FEATI University
College of Business

joined in the Job fair in WCC. Another great experience is seeing familiar faces
from the job fair of WCC in FEU IT. A new task were given to me I was the one
who counts the foot traffic and updates if the event is crowded, this was a great
experience for me it was like I was the one who started the fair. Day two of fair was
the same as day one but the foot traffic added from yesterday’s data, this was a
good sign for the organizers of the event.

My first week was really a good start and I was motivated to perform
excellently because of what I have already accomplished and because of the
employees they were very accommodating and were very king to me.

WEEK 2
On the second week of my On-the-Job Training, there were many things I
have accomplished, I was asked to continue encoding the leads that the company
got from the Job fairs the Academic linkages department attended. This task was
not that difficult for me to do but the leads are just too many that’s why it took me
so long encoding the leads.

I think the highlight of this week was when my training supervisor asked me
to go and attend a Job Fair held in Bulacan State University (BULSU) again with
Sir. Karl Del Rosario, the atmosphere of the job fair was way different from the job
fairs I attended from WCC and to FEU, this job fair was way bigger in terms of
location and companies, with bigger population of students who’ve attended the
fair and to the simplest things. Another good thing is that I met some familiar faces
from the past Job fairs, my task to this job fair was not that far from the other job
fairs, I was asked to assist students from the registration booth, hand them flyers,
handle the foot traffic of the event, and lastly is to get some leads from the HR of
the companies who’ve joined the Job fair. I had fun doing the things assigned to
for the past two weeks of my On-the-Job training.

This 2nd week was a very heavy week but despite of it, I really learned a lot
not just academically but socially as well because I learned to adjust myself to the
people I am with and I learned to socialize with them in a good manner. Almost all
of the employees working in Jobs180 is all very accommodating, helpful and nice,
that makes it easier for me to socialize with all of them.

WEEK 3
On my third week nothing much happened, but there were many things that
I have accomplished. I finished encoding the leads of the company from the month
of March 2018 to the month and the latest series June 2018, I also organized the
files of the leads which makes it easier to see past leads for future references if
ever anyone would need to look at them. I also photocopied and printed official
Jobs180 documents.

My training manager personally asked me to start a new lead, this lead is a

lead about future prospects of Jobs180 to be partnered with, doing this lead was
not easy I was asked to get the company details, from the name of their company
to their contact number, location of their head office and lastly to their HR or contact
persons, and of course the number of their job listing from other websites, this was
not an easy task because this was a new one for me but when you get used to it,
it will become easy and you’ll suddenly realize that you’ve encoded hundreds of
companies for your leads. Every time my Training Manager calls me for questions
and merely for just updating reasons, I can feel my heart beating like a drum. She
is very strict, but she is also encouraging. She tells me to study hard for my family,
especially for my parents who are supporting me in every way possible.

This 3rd week was not that heavy, I learned a lot especially academically
because I learned to use new things, do new things, and accomplished my task,
also I improved my typing skills. This week was a happy week, a week where I
didn’t really feel I was working because everything is happy to be with and to do.

On the fourth week of my On-the-Job Training, I was only able to go to work
for one and a half day because of the Typhoon.

There were many things that I have accomplished. I continued encoding the
new leads of the prospect company partners. A new task was given my training
manager, my training manager asked me to observe and create a presentation
about my comments, observations, and suggestion about the official website of
Jobs180, about the social media pages of Jobs180, and I was also asked to
present the PowerPoint presentation to my manager, I was now used to being with
my training manager which makes it more comfortable working with her, and with
the employees making my stay better and happier. My presentation went well,
almost all the employees present that day joined the presentation and listened to
my comments and suggestions, which makes the experience of my On-the-Job
training much better. I also photocopied and printed official Jobs180 documents.

The tasks were getting harder as the days went by. First, I continued doing
the leads, but now another task was given to me, I was asked to cold call
companies from the list to get further data’s and leads. After that, I also
photocopied official documents and answered phone calls. The files of each
agency were filed in the pigeonhole by me.

I assisted my Training Manager regarding the documents that he was

working on. Another task was given to me I was asked to help Mr. Allan Silonga
to create and help in his field in Social Media Marketing, this was a new thing for
me, another new thing I’ve learned.

During the fifth week of my On-the-Job Training, I started having normal

conversations with the people there. I became more comfortable with them
compared to my first week of training. I also started to socialize with other people,
especially those who are on higher position. I earned to handle some situations
and adjust with the environment where I am conducting my On-the-Job Training.

I can say that it was not just my skills and knowledge that were being
developed during my training but also my personality as a student today and as a
future professional someday. This OJT really helped me to be more determined
and to be more competitive in everything that I do in life.

WEEK 7
This week was by far the busiest week I’ve had during my On-the-Job
training in Jobs180. The tasks that I did this week was a continuation of the tasks
I did last week, I updated the leads, called call the prospect companies of Jobs180,
helped in photocopying and printing official files and documents.

The reason why I said this was the busiest day is because this week was
the week where a big job fair was handled and advertised by Jobs180, the
company has been preparing for this event for the past three months, this was a
two day job far event held in SMX Conventions Center, Jobs180 was given the
chance to advertise, market and handle the job fair “Wake up Manila” where a lot
of companies have joined the event and hundreds of applicants have come to
participate in the job fair.

The tasks given to me were almost the same form the past Job fairs I have
attended, what’s new is that I am no longer in the registration booth but now sitting
in the own booth of Jobs180 where I promote, communicate, help, in giving ideas
about Jobs180, another big thing about the event is we were with the head of
marketing team of Jobs180.com, this was my first time to attend a job fair with him,
I was nervous the whole time but he was a big help in teaching me and leading us
the team in the entire event. Another thing is this was the only event where I was
with almost the whole Marketing and Academic Linkages team, this was by far the
best job fair I have experienced because of all the things they have said to me
which I all took as a learning opportunity.

I will say that this was the most tiresome week but is the best learning week
I’ve had during my On-the-Job training, seeing many professionals in one event. I
won’t forget that two day event, especially the moment that I saw many marketers
and hoping that I will be like them, SOMEDAY.

WEEK 9
This is my last day of On-the-Job Training and I still needed to finish and to
perform the tasks assigned to me.

I finished my last update of the leads of the prospect companies of Jobs180.

I also updated the normal leads gathered from jobs fairs we attended. As usual, I
photocopied official documents, answered phone calls and assisted my Training
Manager, but this time not nervous anymore.

I was happy because I will finally finish my training but somehow sad
because I will be leaving the office where I had lots of memories and I will be
missing the people that became close to me for a period of time. Despite the sorrow
of leaving them, I am still happy that once in my life, I have met people like them
in my life who taught me things related to my chosen course, and most importantly,
they helped me to be the best that I can be. They are the ones who helped me in
molding myself to be the individual I am right now. They challenged my skills,
abilities and knowledge and gave me a chance to prove myself to them.

It is a very heartwarming thing to know that there are people who believe in
me. I’m very grateful because I made them proud of what I have accomplished
during my training and they were very thankful for everything that I have helped
them with.

LEARNINGS

The training I had in Jobs180.com each day gave me a lot of experiences. I

was exposed in the actual work of a marketing professional, I became familiar with
the documents prepared by different professionals in my field there and learned
how to use equipment that are usually used in the office. Aside from those things,
I also learned to be more sociable and to adjust myself in the environment where
I am working at and who I am working with.

In my more than a month stay there, I learned many things not only those
things that are related to my course but also the things that molded me into a
professional. As I was working as a trainee at Jobs180.com, I learned to become
a hard-working person. The time to finish the task assigned to me is important, but
it is also important that I should do it correctly. I learned to appreciate even the
simplest lessons studied in school. I was able to realize the importance of theories
that were discussed in the school. Also, to understand that everything that was
taught in the school can be a tool that can be used in my future career, because
during my On-the-Job Training, the terms that I have learned from school were
used in the company where I was conducting my training, especially those
marketing and management subjects. As I was conducting my training there, I also
learned to follow the instructions and to accept or admit my failure and should learn
from it as what my Training Manager said to me.

After the training, I realized that on-the-job training is not just a requirement
to be completed but it is an opportunity to show what skills, knowledge, and talents
that I have and also an opportunity to experience the feeling of being a professional
already.

Aside from the experiences that I had relating to my course, this On-the-Job
Training allowed me to get acquainted with the employees of Jobs180.com. Being
with them is a pleasure because I was working with the marketers. During my stay

there as a trainee, they kept on encouraging and motivating me to study hard and
to do my best always.

I won’t forget my Training Manager who challenged not just my skills and
abilities but also my patience. She is a kind of person who wants everything to be
done instantly and correctly. She doesn’t like having doubts. I was always nervous
whenever she calls for my help. But with that experience that I had with my Training
Manager, I am so thankful to her because she taught me to be more patient and
to be confident of what I know is right and not to have doubt about what I can do.
Another person that I have learned something from is the Academic Linkages
Officer Sir. Whenever he asks me to do something, he always keeps on saying
that I should do things slowly but surely. He never pressured me to make haste in
doing the tasks that he has given me. All of the people I have worked with during
my On-the-Job Training are all very inspiring. They all left a piece of advice to me
that I will surely keep in my mind and in my heart for the rest of my life.

I really had a very meaningful and memorable On-the-job Training at

Jobs180.com. Though I already finished working there as a trainee, I am looking
forward to working with them, not as a trainee anymore, but as a marketer,
SOMEDAY.

CONCLUSION
Nothing beats experience as the perfect learning tool. This On-the-Job
Training served as my stepping stone to pursue my dream to be a Professional
Marketer someday. This training gave me an inspiration to be more serious and
focused in studying. I was encouraged to do more efforts in my studies. Since I
was given some ideas about the work of an auditor in the company where I
conducted my training, I am inspired to be like them someday.

Despite the short period of my training, it was still a very meaningful one.
The training enriched my confidence created a foundation of being a good
employee someday. It caused a very huge effect to me as a Bachelor of Science
in Business Administration major in Marketing Management Student. I was really
renewed. I learned to be diplomatic in both action and words.

This training made me realize that it is really good to know what you’re doing,
and to love it. As a student, what I can do for now is to learn whatever I can in
school, be inspired, love the path I am taking, and do my best in everything I do,
with a positive outlook in mind. I realized that I should be more focused in school
and do everything heartily and with all that I can.

It is also very warm to the heart to know that you have accomplished
something and even warmer when there are people who are so proud of what you
have done and I felt this feeling during my On- the-Job Training. It inspired me to
be more determined and competitive in everything that I do in my daily life as a
student today and as a professional someday.

My On-the-Job Training is very helpful and will be very helpful to me as I

continue to take my journey as a fourth year student in the field of Business. It
really gave me a taste of the real world – a glimpse of what lies ahead after I
graduate.
