3 Field Experiences

Candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content and professional
knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards.

Each course throughout this program has required field experiences, both structured and
unstructured. These field experiences are all documented in logs found on this site by navigating to the
“Field Experience” tab. These logs were developed independently, regardless of the level of
collaboration called for during the assignment. The logs were developed to demonstrate mastery of
skills during the course.

This artifact, the Field Experience Log, demonstrates my ability to engage in field experiences to
synthesize and apply the content of professional, skills, and dispositions within these standards. While
completing each log, I identified the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required to complete the field
experience. Each log also contains a description of the experience and a description of the impact that
the experience had on the leaner.

Completing the field experience logs was how I first learned of the impact that reflection was
having on my professional development. Each log allowed me to take a look back at the experience
upon its completion. This was very helpful, as I was frequently completing my experiences in tandem
with other events or experiences. Often times the experience with one teacher, or one event allowed
me to revise and more purposefully prepare for another event. It became a valuable habit to build that
allowed me to quickly and efficiently reflect on my own work on a daily basis. If I were to complete
these field experience logs again, I would complete several of them with the collaborating teacher.
While the course called for independent reflection, I believe that reflecting on these field experiences
with the teachers and the classrooms that were impacted could have an even greater reach and impact
on student learning.

This artifact, much like the reflections artifacts, are difficult to determine the direct impact on
the school and students growth. However, like the reflections artifacts, I believe that by documenting
my activity and reflecting on my work, I have become a better coach that is more capable of impacting
student and teacher development. I am confident that this program, and the field experiences that I
completed during this program, will have a lasting impact on school improvement, faculty development,
and student learning. The experiences have helped me to connect with all areas of the school and
continue to help me share ideas, information, strategies, and resources with the schools that I serve.
