 SUMMER INTERNSHIP- A BRIEF INTRODUCTION

My Summer Internship started on 7th June 2017 and continued till 25th July
2017. The internship programme conducted by Amity University Kolkata was
aimed at widening the student’s perspective by providing an exposure to real
life organisational and environmental situations. It thereby enabled me to
explore an industry/organisation, build a relationship with a prospective
employer and enhanced my industrial skills. This internship also provided me
with invaluable knowledge and networking experience.

As the internship was conducted by Amity University we were hence placed at

different organisational institutions chosen by the university itself and we were
speculated on the basis of our CVs and walk in interview. I was placed at a legal
firm that goes by the name SLAOS (Strategic Legal and Accounting
Outsourcing Services) located at Ecostation, Salt Lake Sector V.

My Industry guide was Dipayan Bhattacharjee who is a senior content writer of

the firm and he appointed me to do various works and guided me throughout
the process. I was basically placed under the Drafting department and my job
was to do content writing on specified topics and also conduct a weekly survey
on the medical and health issues of Victoria (Australia) through Google Alerts.
 SLAOS: AN OVERVIEW
Before proceeding further it is essential to have a concrete idea about the
kind of organisation I was placed into and its different motives and objectives
so that the nature of my internship work can be better understood. SLAOS
combines great people with a deep understanding of the specialised
requirements of the legal and accounting sector with innovative processes and
leading technologies to deliver remarkable results. It is also to some extent
consultancy firm that aims at combining technology, process and most
importantly people to create cost-optimised and risk managed solutions for
clients. It focuses on providing its clients with the outmost innovative solution
incase of business expansion, major project completion or streamlining cost.
Simply it helps to grow your revenue and profitability, without adding to your
overheads.
Strategic Business Alliance provides round the clock and fully customised
solutions for legal practitioners and law firms through their innovative service
delivery models consisting of- onshoring, blended (onshoring and offshoring)
and offshoring.
It provides end to end support for accounting firms by aligning 3 pillars service
delivery model to suit accounting firm client’s requirements.
It offers Precedent and Document Automation services from style guide
formation to HOT DOCS coding.
SBA’s team of IT professionals onshore as well as offshore cater to the client’s
IT needs. It’s team is ready to provide round the clock support through a
careful integration of 3 pillars service delivery models.
SBA has a dedicated team of paralegals and secretarial team who take care of
all administration and back office assignments including legal and general
transcription for clients.
On the very first day of our internship we were asked to ask to choose a
specific department under which we would like to work and being an English
Major student i personally opted for the Drafting department as it was all
about content writing and report organising, (areas i am duly interested in).
Within the period of eight weeks I was given to write on various topics and
submitted eight weekly google alerts reports to my guide. My writings were
uploaded on their blog and I gained much confidence from my experience.
My very first content writing was titled AUTONOMOUS CARS and i had to mark
state and detect the origin, specialisations and use of such a ground breaking
machine. The topic initially sounded absurd and completely unknown to me
but when I started my research I found that it is indeed an innovative invention
of man and its research and experiments have been conducted since at least
the 1920s; the promising trials took place in the 1950s. As I delved deeper into
the topic that realized that it can make life easier and it would be a step
towards science and development. I found that I had endless things to write
yet I was restricted to the margin of 500 words.

After the completion of my task I submitted my work to my guide and he

marked out my strength and drawbacks.The assessment enabled me have a
better understanding of the task.
Next I was ask to prepare a weekly report on the medical issues of Victoria
through Google Alerts and it was yet another area about which I had zero
knowledge. My guide again came to my rescue and he explained to me that
Google Alerts is a content change detection and notification service, offered by
the search engine company Google. The service sends emails to the user when
it finds new results- such as web pages, newspaper, articles, blogs, or scientific
research-that match the user’s search term(s).It was another new domain I
acquired knowledge about. Subsequently i was in time dealing with an issue
that completely enthralled me and broadened my thinking capacity and also
enriched my general knowledge.
MY major work during the internship period was the create, organise and duly
submit the weekly Google Alerts every Friday of the week. My research was
centred around the state of Victoria located in southeastern Australia. Victoria
is Australia’s most densely- populated state and its second most populous
state overall. Most of its population lives concentrated in the area surrounding
Port Phillip Bay, which includes the metropolitan area of its state capital and
largest city, Melbourne, Australia’s second-largest city. Being such a densely
populous city Victoria has varied medical and health issues and its major
concern is overweight or obesity. In September 2016, the Victorian
Government confirmed that “about two thirds of Victorians are overweight or
obese, and these rates are rapidly rising. It is estimated that obesity, a major
risk factor for heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer, costs Victoria $14.4
billion a year.”
Although the Google Alerts provided me with daily headlines and news it was
my task to rightly filter the informations and state only those which were duly
credible. This kind of a task enabled me to judge news and informations of the
basis of their authenticity and reliability. My guide provided me with constant
support and help.

In the middle of my ongoing task I was asked to write yet another content and
this time it was titled DEMONETISATION and its EFFECTS. Not only it is a
domestic topic but it also much talked about and it constituted the most
interesting current affair. I began with stating the main purpose of
demonetising Indian currency which was primarily aimed at ensuring a
corruption free society and wrote its effects and concluded by stating that how
the scheme ended into a complete failure doing immense damage to the
Indian economy.

This time my write up was very much appreciated by Dipayan Sir and it was
also the first time that my writing was uploaded on their blog.
 CONCLUSION
Over the period of eight I was given similar tasks which broadened my thinking
and working capacity. Being placed in a complete indifferent scenario I was
able to come out of my shell and get accustomed to the varied experiences of
of a busy office. My professional skills were improved and I developed
considerable degree of consistency and perseverance.
I sincerely worked during my internship days and in return I gained knowledge
and also developed skills and proficiency and I am deeply thankfull to my
university for providing me with this opportunity.
