CORE REQUIREMENT FOR THE LEADERSHIP MINOR

LEARNING CONTRACT

Goal: To identify and utilize my Strengths in an organizational/interpersonal setting that

aligns with the mission, vision, values and sponsored programs and activities of URI’s
Center for Student Leadership Development.

For my learning contract, I plan on training to become a facilitator at the NWCC. I will
use my developer strength, to help cultivate and develop deeper relations and bonding
between the groups that I facilitate and help them achieve their goals from the
information that I learn. My includer strength will come in handy when I need to use
what I have learned from training and apply it to groups so that everyone is included and
feels like they are a part of the group. I can also use my positivity strength to have a good
time and bring the best positive energy and happiness I can; as well as make sure that
everyone feels welcomed.

The activity that I chose to do is to train to become a facilitator at the North Woods
Training Course. I believe that this activity would be a good fit for me because it will
help me with my presentation skills in front of people as well learning how to facilitate
different activities. At the training I learned about facilitating and different ways and
techniques I can use to debrief activities and to speak in front of a group of people. I will
learn skills that I can carry on through life and use in my everyday life and when I get a
job. At the NWCC I could use my strength includer to encourage everyone to participate
and help find a way for everyone to be able to participate that falls in line with their
comfort level. I can use my developer strength to help encourage team bonding and help
them to reach their goals as well as draw out the best version of themselves in the
activities. My values of fairness can tie into facilitating when we are talking about
guidelines for the game and making sure that it isn’t set to hard where they’ll never be
able to get it but not too easy either. Positivity can also play a role as having a positive
and helpful attitude will make the atmosphere lighter and make people want to listen and
have a good time.
