blogging sites become popular, creating a social media sensation that’s still popular today.

After that invention, social media explode in popularity. Sites like MySpace and LinkedIn gained
in early 2000s and Photobucket for online photo sharing. Facebook came out in 2005, creating a
new way for people to communicate and share with other across distances. In 2006, Facebook
and Twitter both became the most popular social networks on the internet. Those platforms allow
us to communicate not only in the same region only, but also we can communicate with people
from around the world.

For now, social media that has most users is Facebook. Around 1.6 billion people are using
Facebook. It is clear to see why people enjoy social media. You can connect to every single
person anywhere and anytime. It also can fill your free time. Moreover, it helps you when you
need more information. Then, when you are feeling lonely and bored and there is no one, you
can chat with your friend so you won’t feel lonely. Joshua Septian, for example 17 years old
student at Pelita 2 Senior High School, said that through social media you can communicate with
each other easily. He used social media to keep up with hot news and if any of his friends get
trouble, social media means that’s he will know and be able to help. Although social media has a
lot of positive aspects, it also has a bunch of negative impacts to society. These impacts could be
happened to everyone around you and could be happened to you.

Some negative sides from social media are differ whether those are affected individual life or
then can lead to society problem. The problem that really obvious is an anti-social behavior
which considered really affected the growth for individual side. It is because everybody is really
enjoy to play their phone and not aware about others. People became more active in social
media instead of their real life. It will lead that people are more comfortable to live their life in a
virtual one, social media, rather than facing the reality. The real example of this problem is,
people cannot express their emotion directly when they seem upset on something, then they
choose to post on their social media.

Moreover, another problem that could be persisted is mental disorder. These can be seen as
people become more addicted to the likes and the loves they got in their post. When they get a
lot of likes from other people, they will be very happy. And if they don’t get those likes, they will
be sad and they will try to get more likes on their next post. One who addicted in social media,
tend to think that viewers/followers are important matter. Thus, acknowledgment from others in
their social media is really mean for them. This problem can lead miss-behavior in one
perception toward others. They will think that the real competition is not just happen in the real
life, but also in virtual (number of followers, like, or viewers).
No matter how bad the negative side is however, social media has changed the way people
communicating. Now it is depend on us, human, to be more wise to use the social media
